Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Reading #Writing #Thoughts - Reviews

Meander 1 - Reading - Not so much this past week since I've been reading contest entries. I did read Dean L/- His books are great ones to read and I enjoy watching the characters grow and change. The "yes Dear" bits make me smile. Hopefully next week I'll have a chance to read two BWL authors books I have in the line to be read.

Meander 2 - Reviews - Not the ones I recieve but the ones I need to write for the books I read. I have no problem rating them but writing a review always bogs me down. I hate reviews that give you every moment of the story and those that come close to ruining the story by telling too much. I really wish there was a form I could fill out and not have to write the reviews.

Meander 3 Writing - Going slowly since there's so much Christmas to attend to. Getting presents for the stockings is difficult since I need to send them off to GA and Fl before too long. Awaiting one more ordered gift and also have to pick up a few more things. Then I'll be back to writing full speed ahead.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Reading #Writing #Thoughts

Meander 1 Reading -- Read Dean L. Hovey's latest mystery Went and reviewed this book and the others I've been behind on doing. Now reading Mary Jo Putney's Rogues Redeemed series and am enjoying re-reading them. Am excited knowing I have a new one in this series to read. May she write amny more stories. My favorite Regency writer.

Meander 2 - Thoughts -- Steroids - Only once was I on heavy sterioid and believe me this is no picnic. Sleep was non-existent. I think I may have averaged an hour a night. The energy I had was unreal and also there were some strange thoughts. Similar to ones I've recently seen on line. Sterioid are nothing to fool around with. Sure theyhelp, but I would rather have other ways to reach for treatment.

Meander 3 - Writing _ Am almost finished with the last of the complete re-writes of Nilos and will soon be on the draft where I re-write sentences and also paragraphs. I know there's a fight scene I need to extend so there is still work until it's finished. Another story is beginning to slowly form.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #BWLPublisher #Reviews #Poetry #Writing

Meander 1 _ Poem  Birth Pangs

Labor's contractions wrack my soul.
The blow of pain is pulsing,
Roaring, filling me with fear.
And yet it will not stop.
I need a midwife to aid the birth
But there is no one to hear.
I must bear down
And birth myself
To still my cries of pain.

Meander 2 _ Reviews - Writing them is what this is about. I seldom write long ones. Just stating if I liked the book and maybe a bit about the characters or the plot. To me many reviews are too long. At one time I write reviews for several sites and they had to be at least one paragraph and preferable more. I also have a problem writing a review. If I can't be favorable and maybe have only one nit to pick that's fine. I recently read a book. The beginning was great. The ending was great. But the middle - the writer got on a soapbox and bored me to tears. The nit I found was too big for me to write this review. Sad since the writer had some good movement at the start and at the end. I kept think move this story alone. I don't need sermons. So I won't write the review.

Meander 3 - Writing. Am coming to the end of the plot draft and the time is coming to turn this book into a great story. We'll see but I keep slogging along.

Saturday - Reviews for The Twisted Climb by J C Kavanagh #MFRWauthor #YA

The Twisted Climb is a great read for young adults and adults alike. The premise of 'climbing to sleep' is an interesting notion in and of itself. J.C. Kavanagh craftfully pieces together the real-life and pseudo-dream journeys of the characters in a way that both offers life lessons and also leaves the reader wanting more. And that ending?! Sequel please!

Awesome book. Couldn't put it down. Recommended for all ages but in particular young adults. Great story with positive underlying life lessons. The kind of book that you don't want to end and when it does, you hope there's another one coming. Would make a great movie.

A unique and creative plot for a book or movie! kept me interested right away. loved the character development on the three main characters as well as the crazy scenario in which they all met up. very descriptive and paints a great visual picture. cant wait for the sequel!!! I've got to find out what ends up happening!

Tuesday's Inspiration - Reviews #MFRWauthor #reviews

Receiving a new review on one of my books always inspires me to think about what I'm writing. I received one the other day from someone who usually doesn't like the very spicy kind of books I sometimes write. She liked the book and moments of the review made me laugh.

Even the reviews I receive that are rather negative do inspire me. Not that I let them bother me but they can inspire me to write better.

What reviews do to me is make me know someone has read the book whether they love or hate what they've read. The only reviews that disappoint me are the ones who are lengthy and give the ending of the story away.

How about you? Do reviews make you happy, sad or angry? What you need to remember is that the review is one person's opinion.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poetry #Reviews #Waiting

Meander 1 - Poem _Whispers Out Of Yesterday

Whispers Out of Yesterday

Your voice -- a whisper out of yesterday
Raises the haird of my mind. Brings haunted
Thoughts of vapoured times I had cast away --
Memories of secrets now unwanted
Siren echoes bait my mind -- Reverberate
In eerie stirrings -- Animate reverie
Of a different fate. Feelings dissipate,
Shimmer on the wind, Create disharmony
Vast weight of shadows -- mind ghosts dissolve and
Darkness oozes from hidden corners
Become diminishing phantoms. No command
Of sometime past can call them forth anew.
Now I lay your voice to rest. A lullaby
Softly sighs for a love that had to die.

Meander 2 - Reviews - Lately I've been reviewing or at least rating books I've been reading. There are things I won't do. I won't give a glowing 5 to a book that was good but not mind-blowing. I also won't ever go below a 3. Let's face it, there are some books that aren't good, at least to me. Sometimes it's the plot that makes me wonder why I'm reading this book. Sometimes it's the characters that stop me from enjoying what is a great plot. Sometimes it's the writer's style that keeps me from enjoyment. Sometimes I may be the only person reading this book who doesn't see why this is a wonderful book. To me a 5 book is one that makes me thing, Just one more chapter until suddenly I reach the end of the book and I sit in wonder. A 4 book is a good one where I want to read to the ending but I can put the book down after reading a chapter and move to other things. A 3 book is one with promise that didn't quite make the cut. There are some people who are upset when their book receives a 4 because this lowers their overall rating. One must remember with books anyone who reads the story is giving a personal thought on the story.

Meander 3 - Writing - I've started on a special project. Sometimes it goes fast and other times slow. There is much I need to learn to write this book so there are blanks. Not really blanks but notes for research about things I either don't know or that happened so long ago that I truly don't remember. As far as my other works The At First sight series is completely re-written. There are two of these books to be typed in and that will happen. This month, or actually from the end of February ahs seen four stories see the light of day. Wizards of Fyre, Seducing the Chef, Seducing the Photographer and Seducing the Innkeeper is up for pre-order. I'll be doing the bits about Seducing the Doctor this weekend.

Sunday's Book - Code Blue #MFRWauthor #Medicalsuspense

Available from all venues. There will soon be a Canadian version.

In the medical suspense Code Blue by Janet Lane Walters, published by Books We Love and previously published as Obsessions, nurse Susan finds the body of the hospital’s “gossip queen” in the orthopedic storage room. She doesn’t realize this is the first of a series of murders involving her colleagues or that her life is in danger. She is a widow and is exploring a new romantic relationship that promises love but she fears the man she is falling for is as controlling as her dead husband. The arrival of courtship gifts, at first, seen as innocuous soon takes on a sinister note.

Reviews

This book kept me on edge from the first page to the last. Several times I just 'knew' I'd figured out who the killer was, but each time, there was a bit of doubt there until the very last paragraph! I highly recommend this book. 4 Stars (Excellent!)"--Tracie's Book Reviews by Kathy's Faves and Raves

"A series of murders, suspense, action, a tad of love makes OBSESSIONS an intriguing tale designed to mystify your mind. If you love mysteries, you'll love Janet Lane Walters newest release. 4 Stars!"--Just Views

"Fast-paced mainstream novel ... Walters plots carefully, each scene constructed to perfection. For readers who enjoy being terrified, this is an author to turn to for entertainment. She tells all, while managing to create paranoia among the characters."--Affaire de Coeur

Sunday's Book and Reviews - The Doctor's Dilemma by Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #BooksWeLove

Take one doctor who’s made a career of temporary positions and avoiding commitment. Add a nurse who dreams of security and a settled life. Stir in infant twins bequeathed to him by his dead foster sister. Pour them into a small Texas town that wants the doctor to stay. To Dr. Neal McKay, it’s a prescription for a dilemma.

I loved this book! The storyline was well thought out, characters were believable. The book is very well written, easy to understand even if English is not your first language.
4.0 out of 5 stars I REALLY LIKED THE STORY January 31, 2015

I REALLY LIKED THE STORY. I HELD MY INTEREST ALL THE WAY THROUGH. PLAN TO READ MORE BOOKS BY THIS AUTHOR

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a really fun read. The main characters wear believable, endearing, vulnerable & loving. The supporting characters were funny, nosy, busy bodies & totally in your face but in a loving way. Once again this is fiction if an author were to research every single thing that they said/wrote in passing no book would ever be published they would all be in school learning the correct procedures. Holy cow people. FICTION! Remember creative licensing. Enough said. All in all a cute storyline with solid characters.

Very well written and the story was good

HEALWOMAN: DARK MOON

Author(s):
This fantasy story featuring four
main characters has an intriguing
plot. Spanning many years, the novel's
references to ancient scrolls, gods
and goddesses adds to its dark
theme.
Born under a dark moon, Norna has to battle rumors that she is tainted by evil and unworthy of being anything more than a servant. Discarded by her mother, she runs away from her aunt, a priestess who wants her to enter the temple.

Instead, Norna chooses to be a Healwoman, and a chance encounter with a novice hoping to be a priest helps her discover she has talents of water, air and fire at her disposal. With these gifts she is called on to battle treachery and attempts to prevent the promised prophecy of the god and goddess. As she battles evil powers, she loses her heart to Shandor, the man she met when her journey first began.

At the beginning I wasn't sure why I had downloaded this book to be honest. I found it hard going but once I got into it....found it hard to put down! in fact I was late for work this morning as I wanted to finish it lol. Will download the others in the series :-

I agree takes a little getting into but once you have got into the characters and got your head round the story its well worth it. I found it an enthralling different type of story that I thoroughly enjoyed - well worth sticking with it, would have loved more.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters

Meander 1 - Writing The End always gives most writers a great feeling. Being a draft writer I can write this more than once during the creation of a story. For me The End doesn't mean the story is over but the story is ready for rewriting or revisions. Always gives me a kick and goads me to take the story to the next level. What does it do for you as a writer. When I write The End on a story for the final time it means I should get ready for the next story and hope the story will bring great things for me as a writer and a reader. I'm always happy to know when one of my favorite writers has written the end.

Meander 2 I don't like to read reviews of my stories. If they're good, I feel happy for an instant. If they're bad I feel sad for a moment. Reviews are how someone reacts to a story and there are people out there who love to write bad reviews for other authors. Sometimes I write reviews but if I can't give a story a good review, I don't write one. The story has been published so why write something nasty. If you didn't like the story, why bother.

Meander 3 - Toth's Priest is coming to the end of the second rough draft. I had to take the story and do a turn since when I reached the end of the really rough draft there were plot holes big enough to put an ocean liner through. So the second rough draft managed to fill in the holes and to show me where I'd gone wrong. There is a lot of fighting and some nice love scenes sprinkled throughout the story. Since this is the final story of a trilogy, there's a lot of tying loose ends in this story. I'm still enjoying the trip to an alternate ancient Egypt.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters

Meander 1 - About Reviews. Lately I've been doing some reviews for books I have read. There's a star system for these reads and I've come to some conclusion. I can't review books I haven't loved. Writers need to know when their books are a success. For me that's where it's at. When I read a book I don't like I can't find anything to say about it. I also can't give a book the highest score unless it blows me out of the water. There are few that do that. Those are the books I re-read. In the last few years, there have been few of them. There have been a number of books that are okay. I don't review them. I would rather not find fault with these stories. So if I do review a book, I have to either love it or really love it. I am not the greatest reviewer in the world.

Meander 2 - About promotion. I really don't like to do promotion, but there are few writers who do like this but I've been pushing myself to put my books up where they may be seen by other people. I had a lot of books go to countdown and I did promote them. I also talked to one of my publishers about putting some of the books on sale for a limited amount of time. Perhaps this will do something to these books and perhaps drive others to the series of which they are a part of. I need to do this to another publisher and so I will see what I can do. I actually have too many books out there making this a time intensive chore. Working on this.

Meader 3 - My own writing. I am finishing the final draft of Melodic Dreams and then comes the draft where I go page by page, checking for errors and changing words. This is always a fun one to do. Then I must get the book ready to send to the publisher. That is always a time consuming chore. The life of a writer means a lot of solitary time but I wouldn't have it any other way. Once this one is sent off I'll begin on Toth's Priest, a story that I had to redesign the outline. This one will involve magic of a sort.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #amreading #amwriting

First I'm celebrating Lines of Fire was released by Books We love. Received the strangest review on it. Rating was a 4 but the remarks inside were pans. Got to figure what this meant or not since I seldom pay attention to reviews.

Vow number one this week is to start doing some promo work and go after the rights on one of my books. Would like to get the last two with this publisher but the third book of the four is still in contract.

In books and often in romance novels, cliches are born. I read nearly as much as I write. Lately I've read this line in maybe as many as ten of my most recent reads. "He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear." I thought the first time I read that "How cool. What a nice way to show the alpha man in ant of tenderness." A lot of other writers thought the same thing. Of course, this could have interesting effects in other genres. What would it mean in a horror story. Maybe someone has used it there but I don't read horror. I do not like to be chilled. Another place where it could change would be a mystery with the villain performing the act just before of after he killed his victim. Now that's a thought. Unfortunately my mysteries are written in first person from Katherine Miller's viewpoint. I've seen this sort of action, bit of dialogue crop up in stories. Could it be the collective unconscious or is it really like my reaction. "How cool." Let me put that line in my story. Thus cliches are born.

As to my writing I've begun a story that has no title. It's part of a long series of novellas. I like the way it's going and will continue to work on it. Once I have several of these done I'll propose the series to one or more publishers and see what will happen. I'll still be working on the one that nearly got left in the dust of the file cabinet. I also want to start on Tainted Lines the sequel to Lines of Fire,

27 August - Week Behind and Week Ahead by Janet Lane Walters

The start of another week and it's hard to believe another week has passed. I have reached the halfway point on Lines of Fire, as far as drafts go and have more than half the wordage I projected for the book. The story is taking shape very nicely. During the coming week I hope to move forward with the goal of finishing the book before the end of the year.

What I have to do this week is work on some promo, read more books for a contest. Sure hope they go better. Sometimes reading for contests is difficult expecially when you find books that you want to won and books you wish had never been entered. But mum's the word on likes and dislikes until the contest ends. I also need to email an editor to learn if she received the book sent over a month ago. And figure how to put my books up on a promo site.

Lately I've been reading on several of my published loops about people being concerned about receiving bad reviews. They agonize over the words someone says about their books. I guess I mostly ignore reviews both the good and the bad. Maybe this is because I've done reviews in the past and stopped doing that because I realized not every book hits me the same way. I also discovered that there were books I loved that others hated and books I hated that everyone loved. Yes, there are people out there that love to trash books, especially those with lots of great reviews. But to let this stop one from writing doesn't make sense to me. The person I have to please with my stories is myself and the editor who sends a contract. Guess this is my rant for the week. I also know nothing good ever comes from writing the reviewer.
