Saturday's Blurbs New Release and Two Free Books #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Romantic Suspense #fantasy #medical suspense

The article passed around the table on a hot August night. “Five to ten percent of the nation’s doctors are so impaired or incompetent they cannot or should not practice medicine.” The nurses at Bradley Memorial thought they had them all. That night they formed a group they called The Committee of Angels.

Nearly a year has passed and Laura Bancroft wonders why little has been done to change things. She also wonders about some of the nurses fitting the pattern. Laura has three doctors on her list of incompetents. She seldom meets with the other members and several of the others are upset with her. When her ex-husband joins the medical staff, she realizes she still has feelings for him. One of her list of doctors dies after emergency surgery and Laura finds her suspected since she was assigned to the doctor. She must deal with suspicions, her feelings for her ex. Then a second on her list commits suicide and speaks of blackmail.

Can Laura learn the truth of who is responsible before she faces arrest?

Two sets of halfling twins, Ashlea, Brandien, Jaydren and Kylandra sent away from their home by their parents to protect them from trouble, search for mentors to teach them how to use their affinities.

He assisted at the code but he feels guilty since he was the one who was responsible for the short staffing the night her husband died.

Coming Soon Committee of Angels to be released in May #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Romantic suspense #hospital #nurses #doctors

This book has taken over twenty years to write. Once, a publisher put out a call for manuscripts and I sent a query. They wanted a detailed synopisi and three chapters. I sent this off and waited. A rejection came with a lot of nice comments about the writing but they hated that one of the nurses in the story was a "slut." I wrote a bit more and talked about the idea at the hospital where I worked. Everyone knew I wrote stories and had managed to publish a few. The nurses were enthralled by the idea but several doctors overheard us discussing the idea and they were not happy. Then my critique group was of two minds about the story so I put it aside and went on to write other stories.

One day, I was looking through my file cabinet for another story I had begun and put aside and found the partial for this story. As I read, I liked what I read and I set out to write it as medical suspense. Suddenly in the middle of a draft, I hit a snag and the story took a twist. After pondering this for days, I decided to begin again, using much of what was initially written but changing it to a sort of romantic suspense. Hopefully I've done what I intended.

     Here's the Blurb;

EXCERPT:

A flash of lightning brightened the sleeping chamber. Ash woke with a start and burrowed into the pillows. The scent of trouble rode the air currents that threaded through the open window slats. Her heart thudded inher chest. Like the beating of a massive drum, thunder sounded. Again, lightning flashed and cast green, white, blue and red slashes against the sky.

The air held no threat of rain. 'Twas like the heat storms of summer, unnatural at this time of year for the waning days of autumn marked the season.

Ash calmed her racing thoughts and tasted the air, for that was her element. A frown formed within and without. From the land beyond the four walls of the henge, she caught the odors of fires, animals and men. From inside the keep, there was little except the aromas of her parents and her siblings. Something was wrong. Where were those who served the Dom and Doma of Wesren? Ash propped herself against the pillows. If she had her younger brother's affinity for the things of earth, she could read the stones of the ancient tower and know what had passed since she;d slept. Where were the male servants and maids? "Twas as though the henge had been abandoned by those who lived within the four walls.

The chamber door creaked. Ash froze until a familiar scent reached her. "Mama, what's wrong?'

The Doma Calanda slipped across the room and sat on the bed. "Ashlea, still your thoughts."

Tuesday's Writer's Tip Knowing When To Stop #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #writing #the End # when to Stop

You've finished writing the story and all the problems are solved. But now you must let those characters go and you don't want to. They have become friends, closer to you than anyone, Unfortunately, the story has ended. You write The End. Then something else occurs and you dither. We've all read books that end and end and end. At one time this was the norm in telling a story. Writing the end meant the writer could dither and tell the reader all those things that happened in their characters' futures. Don't fall into the trap. When the story ends, stop.

Another way to end is to make hints about a coming sequel. There may be wore stories in this world. I remember reading the second book in a series that began with a recap of the first book and was essentially the ending of the last book. Some worlds need more than one story but the author is wise if there are other stories in this world to make them self contained and perhaps reference what happened to the characters of another book in this world. Make the ending clean. Then start another story in that world fresh.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Reading #Writing #Thoughts

Meander 1 - Reading - It's been back to Anne Perry's mysteries - Mostly Monk - Though he'sdark and has lost most of his memories, this is an intriguing character and the books are interesting. The relationship between he and Hester is one full of interest and sometimes exchanges that brought a bit of laughter.

Meander2 - Thoughts - Politics - I am so tired of politicians who don't care what they do or say. Those who appeal to the nasty part of people make me ill. Won't name them but they are hateful and spew evil about others. They play to those of the people who hate the country, other people who are in the slightest bit different and really, they hate themselves.

Meander 3 - Writing - Am slowly rough drafting Sepal and I like where it's going. Will finish the first six chapters and them comes to where I must switch the chapters to have both Ranal and Amera share the chapters. This book is a bit different from the others since I have just two viewpoint characters.

Friday Janina Gray is Visiting and Talking About Being a Panster or Plotter #MFRWAuthor #Panster #Plotter #Tarot #Romance

1.    Are you a panster or a plotter or perhaps a bit of both?

I guess I’m a bit plotter and pantser, although I do try so hard to be a plotter. In the end, I’m pantsing it to the finish line.

I use Tarot to create the plot, but then I’m usually writing before I finish the outline based on the Tarot reading. I really don’t have a choice as the characters tell me what to do. So while I have an outline that tells me the basic scenes and ideas to include in the story, I do stray off the path when writing.

2.    Which comes first - characters or plot for you?

Characters come first usually for me and as I get to know them I get a basic idea of how they want the plot to unfold. While I have an idea in my head based on the Plot Tarot reading I complete, the two main characters usually correct me and tell me what the real plot will be when I complete their individual Tarot readings. So I basically do three readings, a plot Tarot reading and one for each character. The character readings usually stay put, but the plot has its own journey.

So I guess they all come first, in a way. And then they all evolve together as well.

3.    What are you working on now? Is this a book in a current series or something totally new?

I’m currently working on BOOK THREE of the Earth and Sky Series! I can’t believe I just typed that. This one is called LOST IN YOUR RHYTHM, and it’s a little out of my comfort zone, so I’m really curious as to how it’s going to turn out.

4.    Do you have some kind of object or place that figures in most of your books? I use gems a lot, hospitals and caves.

The object that figures in most of my books is a signature drink usually favored by the heroine. In TEN BUCKS AND A WISH it was Kahlua. In LOVE IN THE FOREST, Margaritas played an important role. In LIFE IS FOR LIVING, Mead is the go-to drink. In LOST IN YOUR RHYTHM, it seems Liza loves dark beers, specifically Smithwicks (Smittys), or Guinness.

5.    Do you write every day or just when the spirit hits?

I write every day. I’m up in the morning before I start my day job, writing away. Then after work I’ll write (before dinner) and then after dinner I’ll keep writing. Sometimes my writing is blogs, or marketing images, but when I am pumping out a book, it’s usually my current WIP.

6.    Where can we find you?

Physically, you can find me chilling out in my haunted 115-year-old farmhouse in the Mohawk Valley, with my hubby, David, and a very squawky murder of crows.

Online you can find me at:

7.    Who are your favorite authors? What about a book you’ve enjoyed?

I have a lot of favorite authors. Maggie Shayne, MJ Compton, Gayle Callen, Jude Deveraux, Christy Logan, Kat Morrissey, ALee Drake, Bill Blodgett, M.A. Phillips, Elizabeth Doherty, and many more.

Saving Grace, by Elizabeth Doherty was a heart tugger. I really enjoyed the characters, plot, and losing myself in the story.

Thursday - A bit about the Characters from Seducing the Chef #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Romance #food #Magazine #Chef

Allie Blakefield is the editor of Good Eatin' magazine. Though she finished the course at the Culinary Intitute, she has never worked in a restaurant. She does love to cook. She is blonde, attractive and determined to write a feature on Five Cuisines, the restaurant. Her father doesn't want her to do this but Allie is stubborn.

The hero of the book first sees Allie from his  terrace in the river apartment. She leans over the balcony above. When they meet, sparks fly. He is tall, dark haired and dark eyes. He has traveled over Europe after studying to become a chef and is opening a restaurant that was onceowned byhis father.

Other characters in the story include Allie's twin sister, her father, Greg's mother and other minor characters.

Though not a real character, food is a real part of the story and the character's lives

I love reading medical romance always wanted to go into medical field but did not so I read about them instead loved the story was easy to read with a happy ending

ednesday The Virgo Pisces ConnectionExcerpt:
When Megan reached the unit, she checked the assignment sheet before cornering the night nurse for report on her four patients. Then she began rounds and started care. Death hovered in her thoughts. Who? When? Mr. Phelps was going home. Though not cured, he had gone into remission. Then on to Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Brown. She quickly completed their morning care and treatments. Both responded favorably toward their chemotherapy.

Megan entered the room of her favorite patient and rubbed her arms to chase a sudden chill. The five year old girl looked so tiny and frail. Leukemia of a virulent type had drained the child rapidly. The little girl’s color nearly matched the white sheets. Megan drew a deep breath. Though the night nurse had assessed Bonnie’s condition as stable, Megan knew the woman had been optimistic.

Not today. Please. As certainty entered her thoughts, her stomach lurched.

“Morning, Button.” She waited for the child to open her eyes and make her usual response. The little girl’s eyes remained closed. She didn’t speak. Megan cleared her throat and tried again, hoping to hear “Not Button. I Bonnie.”

The child’s eyelids fluttered open exposing her dark eyes. Bonnie seemed to stare at a point in the distance. Slowly, she focused on Megan. “Tell…Mama…Not be …sad…Hurt gone.”

The whispery voice brought a cold shiver. Megan checked Bonnie’s pulse. An erratic beat bounded against her fingers. Shallow breaths were interrupted by long pauses. Megan’s fears deepened. She pulled her cell phone free and dialed the number taped to the bedside stand.
