Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Reading #Writing #Thoughts

Meander 1 - Reading - Read 2 Ellis Peter's Cadfael mysteries, Alexandra's Anguish by Margaret Tanner and Farrier's Lane A Thomas and Charlotte Pitt mystery. Enjpyed all three.

Meander 2 - Thoughts - War - What insanity Mr. Putin is up to by invading the Ukraine. I understand this was once part of the Soviet Union and among those that left the union. What really puzzles me is those of out politicians on the right who think this is a good and proper thing, especially when they're thinking about leaving our union of states. So much sickness for power in the world.

Meander 3 - Writing _ Am halfway through a rewrite of Committee. Still a way go go. Not sure I'll be able to make April release. In a few more days, I''ll know. Then I'll have tothrow myself on my publisher's mercy.

Sunday's Book Features The Cancer Capricorn Connection #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Romance #Contemporary #Medical

She’s a Cancer and he’s a Capricorn. She has a secret she wants to keep but moments after they meet again, he realizes that her daughter is his, and he wants to be part of their life.

Memories of the past and her hurt brings Cate’s old anger back to the surface but Rick realizes what a fool he was in his single-minded desire to follow his dream. He now has the medical degree he desired enough to set his love for Cate aside. His guilt and her anger clash as they try to find ways to show their daughter how much they love her.

Genre – Contemporary Romance

First Line: Cate Rollins stood in the sun-filled kitchen of the house she’d rented and opened another box.
Review:

Cate Rollins lost Rick Somers when he drove to the west coast after their high school graduation. She thought he loved her, but he never returned…until 9 years later.

“Opposites” is a great descriptive word for Cate and Rick’s personalities. Ms. Lane Walters’ develops an excellent story-line between the two with even a few surprises. There’s more to Cate’s life than she knows and more to Rick’s than he knows – and when the two reconnect a firestorm shakes them both awake and rekindles the smolder. The story sends the reader into a battle of wills and will nots full of emotions from the past and the present, along with recreating tensions (sensual and anger issues).

If you’re looking for a fast-paced, quick read, this is an entertaining story with a happy ending, and I look forward to reading another of this series.

Valkyrie Love

Valkyrie love never comes easy.

Brenna left Asgard with a curse on her name and a broken heart.

A Valkyrie now free and independent, for millennia her life had been great. Just great.

Then a bleeding Elf knocks at her door holding a baby.

Alexander Reed left the Marines and lost the wheel of his life.

A soldier without a worthy fight, he became everything he despised.

Until he ends up in the wrong backyard at the wrong time.

Fljóða, Queen of the Light Elves and last of her lineage, is an infant with a death sentence on her head.

Hunted by the Night Elves, her survival brings Brenna and Reed together for the ultimate mission: take the little Queen to safety in the Vanaheim Realm, deep in the Roots of Yggdrasil.

Not simple, but straightforward.

Or so it seemed.

Between flaming giants, demons, and an army of Half Breed determined to kill the Queen and conquer all the Elvin Realms, Brenna and Reed will have to face their inner monsters.

Monsters appearing in the form of feelings neither want but cannot control.

Guns for Angels

Ann
My sister was all the family I had. She was taken from me and now, someone wants me dead, too. Not sure why.
I’m sure I’m not going to give my life up, though. I’m not going to let them get away with my sister’s murder.
The new me will try, anyway.
You see, when she was alive I could live in brightness and peace. Now I have to accept the darkness within me. After all, isn’t life about balance? Ironically, the man who can teach me how to embrace the shadows is broken, hopeless, and angry. Mark is also the only one I trust to lead me through my heart’s night, and back into the light.
The one I trust to keep us alive.

Mark
A favor to a teammate: pick up two girls in trouble, take them to the Team’s safehouse. Should have been easy. It was not.
Then someone killed one of my team, one of my brothers. Now it’s personal.
They want me, too.
They want me, too. I can deal with that. But they want Ann. The only person who cut through me, who woke me, who grabbed my hand and guided me back into life one smile at the time.
I’ll be damned if I let them have anything.
Not. One. Damned. Thing.

From NY to sunny Miami, Ann and Mark run into a maze of lie, betrayal, and death, where love is the only, terrifying certainty. And when truth unravels, they will have to risk all to survive.

His Midnight Sun

Damaged, angry sculptor Aidan Murphy is a midnight full of nightmares and menace. Punched by tragedy, he’d closed off in his world of art and pain.
Sunny, loyal Doctor Summer Williams is a spring morning sun. Punched by tragedy, she’d kept her ponytail bouncing as she made her way to the next person to help, armed with a smile and shielded by optimism.
He elevates being abrasive and antagonist to a form of art; she shrugs it off and accepts him even when it hurts or when she disagrees.
He pushes people away; she pulls them in.
He knows no trust; she earns his.
She’s everything missing from his life, and nothing he deserves to want.
Love, though, is more resilient than tragedy. It’s smarter than pain.
Will love be stronger than hate and vengeance, too?

Viviana MacKade is visiting and talking about being a Panster or a Plotter #MFRWAuthor #Plotter #Panster

1.       Are you a panster or a plotter or perhaps a bit of both?

A bit of both. I plot the story in general, what will happen and when. But then I’ll let the characters move withing it freely.

2.       Which comes first - characters or plot for you?

Could be one or the other. Or a third thing that passed in front of my eyes while I was chasing my girl, who was chasing my son, who was chasing the dog…. Really, it’s never the same.

3.       What are you working on now? Is this a book in a current series or something totally new?

Nothing. I think I’ll go back to a romantic suspense I have almost finished, but I need a moment to decompress.

4.       Do you have some kind of object or place that figures in most of your books? I use gems a lot, hospitals and caves.

I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and I don’t think I do…

5.       Do you write everyday or just when the spirit hits?

I write when I can. Baby’s naps, late at night, on my phone while the kids are playing. Crazy times.

6.       Where can we find you?

Mostly, on my blog. I hate *hate* social media, so the only thing I do (and absolutely love) is my blog. All my info are there.

7.       Who are your favorite authors? What about a book you’ve enjoyed?

Nora Roberts. No need to say more.

I’m reading Charming by Elliott James. It’s so much fun and there’s another Valkyrie , although she’s very different from mine.

Join the authors at #MFRWHooks here   http://mfrwbookhooks.blogspot.com for some interesting excerpts. Mine is found @https://wwweclecticwriter.blogspot.com  Murder and Herbal Tea Katherine gets married

Blurb;

Katherine’s wedding day has arrived and she and Lars make their vows. When she notices one of her best friends hasn’t arrived, she begins to worry. Her friend owns a shop where tea and accompaniments are sold. Her friend’s partner is a micromanager. Katherine’s friend has wanted to dissolve the partnership. A call to the New England town brings the dreadful news of a murder. Kate’s protectiveness factor takes hold and she leaves a note for Lars and heads to rescue her friend. Though she has promised to leave murders alone, she feels she has no choice. Lars follows to help her solve another murder.

Editorial Review
Long-time beau Lars has finally convinced Katherine Miller to become Katherine Claybourne. But fans won't be surprised that even on her honeymoon, Kate can't stop herself. She's a magnet for murder. ~ Writer Gail Roughton

Excerpt:

Following to snatch Lars from his kidnappers proved impossible. Every time someone stopped me to gush congratulations, my stomach tightened. I thought about being rude but we were in church and today was meant to be a joyous occasion.

I noticed Sarah’s foster son near the stage. He held a rectangular object in one hand. His fingers moved so fast they blurred. Texting, I hoped. I hurried toward him. He held a phone.

"Jamal, could I use your phone? There’s a call I must make.”

“Sure, Mrs. M.” His hand covered his mouth. “Forgot. You’re now Mrs. C. Do you know how to use one?”

I patted his crisp curls. “I may be old but I have some skills with modern technology. Mine’s at home.”

He scuffed the floor with the toe of his shoe. “Didn’t mean you were old.”

“It’s all right. I won’t be long.” I slipped from the noisy room and ducked into the small parlor. Drawing a deep breath, I dialed Herbal Haven’s number. After fifteen rings I hung up. How did I transpose the last four numbers last week? After two tries, I heard Joyce’s voice.

“Who is this?” she asked. “More harassment?”

“It’s Kate. What happened? What did she do?”

“Got herself murdered.”

“What?”

“No joke. Everything’s a mess. I couldn’t call you. They took me in for questioning yesterday morning and didn’t release me until an hour ago when it was too late to call.” Her voice trembled. “They told me not to leave town.”

“When was she killed?”

“Sometime Monday night. Yesterday on my way to your place I stopped at the shop for a basket of fresh herbs I’d fixed for you to plant at your new house. I found her body, called the police and instantly became the prime suspect.”

“Why you? You had no reason to want her dead, especially when you planned to buy her out. Did she know?”

“She was making plans to move. One problem. She wanted to keep this quiet until she had the cash.”

“How odd.”

Tuesday's Writer's Tip - How to Master a Circular ending #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Writing #endings #Circular

ircular endings seem to make a circle and the ending mirrors she beginning. Almost. There are differences but there are changes. The reader cansee clearly between what was and what had come to be. There is a contrast and can be bitter or sweet. This contrast must be clear. In the one story with a true circular ending that I've written. The set up is the same.

The heroine arrives to deliver a set of orphaned twins to the man named by their dead mother as their guardian. He isn;t there to meet her and she must rent a car, upset her plans and drive them from the airport to their new home. The story ends with her arriving at the airport without the twins. He isn't there to meet her and she goes to rent a car and finds him and the twins at the rental area.

So the reader sees the circle and the quiet but happy ending.

The story has come home. These endings don't need the big action bang up scene. That must come before if one is needed.

Again, the contrast must be clear and the variable highlighted. This brings a satisfactory ending.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Reading #Writing #Thoughts - Olympics

Meander 1 - Reading - Read Seasoned Hearts by J. S. Marlo and enjoyed the story a lot. There is mysters and friendship in this story. Also great characters who have troubled lives. Have been reading Carly Phillips books. In the series, one of the books was new. Always a pleasure to read new books.

Meander 2 - Thoughts - Olympics - Been watching sporadically since I really like the figure skating and the ski jumping. Not sure why those two. The men's skaters were great as were the tem skates. The women's had a problemwith someone having used a no no drug in the recent past. If shehad won, there would have been no medals ceremony. That fifteen year old did what shehad to do. But this was rather sad and I wonder what the adults in her life were doing.

Meander 3 - Writing - Working on the second re-write of the story. I doibt I will make thedeadline but I'm doing my best.

A small town hospital, a widow and a widower, add a pair of 9-year old twins, mix well and you have the basis for a fast-paced story. In The Gemini-Sagittarius Connection, Walters demonstrates her knowledge of hospitals to make the story real, but does so skillfully without slowing down the read. From the first page to the last, Walters pulls you into the lives of her characters and has you rooting for a happily-ever after ending.

i found the book well written and the characters well developed. Finding love again are wonderfully romantic stories.I really enjoyed the Gemini- Sagittarius aspects of the story, too.

Friday, Amara Dey is visiting and talking about being a Panster or a Plotter #MFRWAuthor #Plotter #Paranormal #Romance

Amara Dey, Author of

NO MERE MORTAL – Decagon book 1

A Paranormal Romance

Hi, I am Amara, and I am a plotter. When I have a story idea in my head, I jot down the outline from beginning to end, then flesh it out with bullet points. After that,  I develop each of those into chapters. Sometimes it’s one chapter per bullet, other times several.

My characters come to me first, though, before the plotting starts. I visualize their physical appearance and know their personality traits. And then I put them in a story. For example, I knew my heroine was human, broken-hearted, and a Salsa dancer in No Mere Mortal. And I decided her story would be to find true love with my bad-boy hero, have great sex, and a rollicking good adventure to boot. Complete with magical fights and monsters.

Then the creative juices flow.

At the moment, I am editing Decagon book 2. For me, this is the hardest part of the writing process. It’s tedious but necessary, and I grit my teeth and plod on. My hero in book two is my heroine’s best friend in No Mere Mortal. And he is a gorgeous Salsa dance instructor. I already knew him, and then I sent him on his own sexy, romantic escapade.

Dance features in all three of the Decagon novels. It is, after all, an activity I love. But my home city, London, England, and Cuba, also figure in this series.

These days I have the luxury of writing every day. When Covid came, my work contract ended due to Covid cutbacks. As you can imagine, that hit me hard, financially and mentally, and I had a massive wobble. I couldn’t write for months. I just couldn’t face it. But eventually, I pulled myself up, dusted myself off, took early retirement, and now I spend my days writing. And reading, and watching TV, and Zumba workouts, and I hope to return to Salsa classes and travel.

Please look me up on social media at https://www.amaradey.uk  https://twitter.com/AnnDrayton5 https://www.amaradey.blogspot.com https://www.mewe.com/i/amaradey

And before I go, on the subject of reading, while I love saucy paranormal romance, I also enjoy murder mysteries. And my favorite author is James Patterson. I am currently engrossed in the Women’s Murder Club series that he writes. And I am on book 19. LOL. These ladies kick ass down here on good old Mother Earth, and I admire his characters. And they probably inspired me to a certain degree to write about strong women who aren’t afraid to put monsters down.

Wednesday Murder and Bitter Tea #MFRWHooks #BWLAuthor #Cozy #Murder #Katherine's Wedding

Join the authors at #MFRWHooks Here http://mfrwbookhooks.blogspot.com for some great excerpts. Murder and Bitter Tea @https://wwweclecticwriter.blogspot.com is mine this week

Blurb:

Katherine’s newest tenant is estranged from her family and is the granddaughter of one of Katherine’s friends. When her friend falls and fractures her hip, the elderly woman is taken to Hudson House nursing home, an exclusive house.

Katherine’s friend becomes concerned about several recent and unexpected deaths. When she dies Katherine’s curiosity and suspicions send her undercover as a nurse. Soon she’s deeply involved.

Can she learn who is behind the scheme to end the lives of wealthy patients without becoming a victim?

Excerpt:

After unlocking the brakes, I pushed her along the hall to one of the elevators. We exited on the ground floor and moved through what had been the ballroom and now was a dining/activity center. The wide French doors opened onto a terrace where a ramp allowed easy access to the gardens. I found a sunny spot beside a white bench.

“Why all the secrecy?” I asked.

She heaved a sigh. “The intercom.”

Her answer puzzled me. Yes, health care facilities had intercom systems, but listening in on conversations was difficult. Sometimes, the static and crackle made the patients who called for help hard to hear. “What don’t you want heard?”

“In a minute.” She clutched her purse to her chest. “Yesterday afternoon, I heard the man across the hall arguing with one of his sons. The man refused to sign some kind of paper. The son shouted. ‘If you don’t, you’re signing your death warrant. I need the power of attorney. Steve is just the one to see you dead.’ A nurse sent the son away.”

“Sounds like a family quarrel. People often say things they don’t mean when they’re upset.”

“That man died last night. I heard the nurses call the code and saw them pushing that red cart into the room.”

“Are you sure the one who died was the same man you heard earlier?”

“His room was directly across the hall from mine.”

“Do you know why he was here?”

She shook her head. “Another odd thing happened at dinner. One of the other residents asked why my neighbor hadn’t come to the dining room. He said they had planned a card game. The aide said the patient was too tired to leave his bed.”

“He could have had a relapse.”

“I suppose. When I asked the nurse what had happened, she said he’d had a heart attack. She also said deaths were expected when people are old and in poor health. I just thought his death coming so soon after the threat was odd.”

“Are you worried about yourself?”

She shook her head. “No, but I am pushing eighty.” She frowned. “Last night, Marcus and I had words about Jenna. I don’t understand his anger toward her. She wasn’t the driver. He insists a witness saw her behind the wheel, but he refused to say who saw the accident. I told him I planned to make some changes in my will.”

“How did he react?”

“Told me to think long and hard. I didn’t tell him the changes had been made months ago. I mailed two letters to the attorney just before the accident. They’ll explain why I acted the way I have.”

“Why not tell him?”

“I wanted them to be surprised.”

Though a million questions swirled in my thoughts, I kept silent. “How are you feeling?”

“Tired. A bit short of breath.”

“Have you noticed any swelling in your feet or ankles?”

“Hard to tell when you’re not moving about.”

“Why don’t you ask Dr. Brookes to stop by?”

“I tried to have him called, but the nurse said he didn’t have privileges here. Hudson House has its own doctor. He’s nice, but he doesn’t know me.”

I patted her hand. “I’ve an appointment with Dr. Brookes this afternoon. I’ll talk to him. Perhaps he can speak to the doctor here.”
