 Discovery is part of the learning process. There are reasons to read. One is escape from the way the world turns at the moment. Another it to keep from thinking and planning ways to change, The Discvery Plot doesboth of these thing but it also aides in learning. Maybe not overtly but with subtle imputs about what the writer is thinking. One thing as a writer you should do is to make your characters so real, the reader believes in the character and what they're saying about life.

When writing for children, what the writer wants discovered is done in subtle terms, Think of the fairy tales or even the Dick and Jane books. They're making discovery fun.

Now for adults. Don't go on a crusade and push, push what you want to let them discover. Learn to write with a light hand rather than with a shovel to upend the story and the message.

 Like all plots, the Sacrifice one has three levels to develop. During the first phase the character who is to sacrifice is introduced and shwon to the readers. Both good points and bad points are show, As his or her character are developed, motivations must be found and explored. There are reasons to be shown to the reader and help to define the character and the sacrifice. The price of the sacrifice is always high. After all, self-preservation is important to most  everyone. That's what has to give. Then comes the sacrifice. How does this effect your character/ How do the other characters react to the sacrifice? Also consider if the sacrifice has  done what it was meant to be. Don't make the character who has sacrificed into a saint. The reasons aren't all good.

 Thenending of the Love plot can be tricky. Think of some of the great love stories that don't have hppy endings. Anna Karenina is one and very much one I remember reading at a young age. I also talked about the ending and thought it wads dumb. My third grade teacher was upset that I read such a book. MY father said Not in his house. I could read anybook on the shelves. I thought the ending was dumb. I was and still am looking for thehappy ending where love rules and wins over all obstacles. Perhaps why I will never write the Great American Novel. So remember while using the love plot though a happy ending is great so can an unhappyone.

 What makes a good love story. The first thing is the characters so love stories are more about the people in them. Now the plot could have a million twists and turne but if the characters don't draw in the readers, the love plot falls flat.A love story is about love denied  and either recaptured or lost.

Two lovers find each other and then are separated. The first segment shows them in the discovery phase and the relationship begins.

Then they are separated. One tries to get back with the other but all seems hopeless. Somehow their goals have changed or something else in their lives has made a difference.

The final phase shows one has found a way to  overcome all the obstacles and the couple is reunited and there is a happy or happy for now ending.

Some great stories have been written about forbidden love. This plot is concerned with growing up. Lessons to be learned. Some of them are hard but when this story ends, the main character is changed and becomes a better person. The story starts with a sympathetic youth, male or female. The story has to do with the moral growth from child to becoming an adult. These stories may be long ones and there are a series of tests. sometimes the character isn't ready to accept and the test remains to be faced again. The test is usually a dramatic one and the character must learn from this. Could be a death in the family or some other tragic event. For the child, this event is traumatic but is really part of growing up. The event can be denied since the character isn't ready to accept what the chnage will mean. He or shemay be trying to do the right thing but not be sure what the right thing really is. The growing doesn'thappen in a day but comes gradually. Always keep this in mind. When writing this kind of story, you mut be able to go back to the days when the feelings were being formed.

 In a way, this plot is related to the r Metamorphosis Plot.  In this plot, thecharacter changes, not into another creature but changes in his way or living. This can be lookedon as natural. Think of how a person changes from an infant to becoming more independent, The child becomes a teenager and then mveson to an adult. They mature to become an older person. All these stages call for a change. There are other kinds of change. A person may change how he relates to others or to a specific other person. The change cpuld be inhow he or she lives their life. The change may be in making money or the change could be more radical. They could transform from a monstrous person into a more gentle one of the opposite. The transformation can take many forms. In the transformation plot the change is significent. At the end of the story, the chanracter is greatly different than he or she was when the story began.
