Seducing the Chef - Allie Blakefield, editor of Good Eatin' wants to do a feature on Five Cuisines a restaurant across the river from NY City. Her father forbids the feature and won't say why. She's not one to sit back and be ruled by someone. She borrows a friend's apartment.

While leaning over the balcony she sees a handsome dark haired man doing a Yoga routine. He looks up and she is struck by the Blakefield curse. Love at first sight.

The pair start a hot and heavy romantic interlude. She visits the restaurant and is recognized by Greg, the chef's mother. The woman goes ballistic and the affair is broken. Can Allie learn what's going on and rescue her love?

Morning sun streamed through the wide windows of the lower floor office of Five Cuisines. Greg Ramsey typed the last item on the week’s menus. He checked the list of supplies needed and sent orders to the various venues. Monday mornings when the restaurant was closed had become his planning day.

He loaded the heavy paper in the printer and began the process of producing the menus for each of the five rooms. As the papers slid from the printer he heard a light tapping at the door.

“Come in.”

When his mother entered he rose and lightly hugged her. “Your timing is perfect. Just finished creating the menus for the week.”

Stella Ramsey, tall, slender with a gray streak in her dark hair, kissed his cheek. “How is my handsome son?”

“Pleased with our success.” Six months ago they had opened the restaurant and they were on their way toward becoming a profitable venture. For the past month there had been few empty tables at either evening seating. Even on Wednesday and Thursday they’d been solidly booked. The weekend brunches were gaining the attention of people who came to browse in the antique shops and other unusual stores in the Hudson River village.

He reached for the letter that had arrived last week. The offer could make or break his dream. He knew little about the magazine Good Eatin’ other than a spread was eagerly sought by the nation’s restaurants. As his silent partner, his mother had a voice in whether they should chance a bad review.

“What was so important you asked me to cancel my lunch date?” She smiled. “Please tell me you’ve found a weekend hostess.”

He shook his head. “The job is yours until you say you’ve had enough.”

“Might be soon.”

He arched a brow. “Something serious happening in our life.”

She laughed. “You’ll be the first to know. What about you? Have you met the woman of your dreams and the one who will make me happy?”

“When do I have time?”

Tuesday's Writer's Tip Contrasts and similarities #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #writing #contrasts #similarities

Contrast is an effective way of writing. Using two characters or two situations that are totally different can add to the tension in a scene. Also effective are startling similarities. Using then and now similarities or differences can add to a story. These can be effectively used in stories with little plot. Contrasts that are real or are only almost are effective in writing stories.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Reading #Writing #Thoughts

Meander 1 - Reading  - Finished reading the last of the Dick Francis Books I have downloaded. Enjoyed reading them again.

Meander 2 - Thoughts - The concervatives have won a battle I hope they finally leave. Having been a nurse during the days when abortions were illegal and having seen some of the results of these i fear this is our future now. I saw women riddled with disease caused by unsterile procedures and saw deaths that were anything except good deaths. The odors remain in my head. I pray someone will take action to undo this and also to protect other rights that are now threatened. There is one justice who should not be on the court and he should be dumped soon.

Meander 3 = Writing - Still ahve one chanpter to finish the rough draft of the book.

Friday Christina Lambert is visiting and talking about Characters #MFRWAuthor #writing #characters #Heroes #Heroines #Villians

Day 1 Characters

1. Heroes, Heroines, Villains. Which are your favorite to write?

Villains are so much fun to write. I can make them range from single minded in their goals to the point of being harmful or I can make them sadistic and twisted, but always, I give them a reason to be who they are. Still, heroes and heroines are my favorite to write.

2. Heroes and Heroines. How do you find them? Do pictures, real life or plain imagination create the man you want every reader to love? Do they come before the plot or after you have the idea for the story?

The main characters often come to me before the plot of the story. For me, the starting point is always the characters, and creating these imperfect people who are good at heart and truly deserve love. Sometimes stars in movies or music videos give me ideas for what the characters will look like, other times, the characters appear in my mind, clearly, and I have to write everything down before the thought and memory fade.

3. Villains or villainesses or an antagonist, since they don’t always have to be the bad guy or girl. They can be a person opposed to the hero’s or heroine’s obtaining their goal. How do you choose one? How do you make them human?

The villains and antagonists I create tend to have a goal, one they pursue with a selfish, singlemindedness that harms others. They have forgotten that the suffering they cause to prove their point of achieve their desires can be just as horrific as the problems they think they are solving.

4. What is your latest release? Who is the hero, heroine and or the villain?

Bear’s Dream (Haven Forest Resort book 1) is my latest book, which is Ellie Ortiz and AJ Shepherd’s story. Ellie makes decisions quickly and sometimes worries that she’s being impulsive. She is an amazing cook and kind-hearted. She has a giant dog named Curtis who she found tied to a tree and starving when she was on a hike with a friend.

AJ is quiet and serious. He spent a lot of time in the Shifter Enforcement Army and saw a lot of horrible things which have weighed on his mind. He and his brother decided to work on opening a resort so shifters can have a place to celebrate things and run free without worries.

5. What are you working on now?

I am working on book 2 in the Haven Forest Resort series. This book will feature Rob, the leopard shifter Head of Security at the resort who had a small part in book 1. I will also be working on completing my Stranger Creatures series as well as publishing some poems in different magazines and anthologies.

6. How can people find you?

Wednesday Confrontations #MFRWHooks #BWLAuthor #fantasy #affinities # Book 4 #swords #magic

Join the athrors at #MFRWHooks here  for some interesting excerpts Mine is found at https://wwweclecticwriter.blogspot and is the concluding book in the Affinities Series

Ash, Bran, Ky and Jay along with their friends have now mastered their affinities. They now control their ability to use Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The time has come for them to face Dom Senet and He Who Walks with Evil. They have learned a disturbing fact. He Who Walks With Evil is able to exchange an old body for a new one. Dom Senet wishes to obtain the secret and he is willing to sacrifice even his own son to gain this power. The four sets of companions set off to rid the doms and domas of Dom Senet’s bonds and to defeat the two evil men. Can they or will they become pawns to evil?

The time has come. Ash bolted upright. Her heart pounded with a beat reminiscent of one created by a mad drummer. Her gaze swept the room. She saw the other young women slept. Had someone spoken on the winds or had the words been part of a dream she couldn’t remember? When her racing heart slowed she cautiously opened her senses to read the winds of the keep. Using her affinity for Air she searched. The only person awake was the doma and the cry hadn’t arisen from the elderly woman.

Fingers of moonlight slid through the shuttered windows. She moved to the edge of the bed and pushed her feet into her house boots. Ash crept to the window to peer outside. She knelt on the stone bench and opened the shutters a crack. A gasp pushed past her lips when she saw the birds, one light and the other dark. The pair circled the keep.

She rubbed her arms to banish the chill of the late winter night. “Mama, Papa,” she whispered. “What does your arrival mean?”

Since the destruction of the Wesren henge the birds had appeared at auspicious moments. Sometimes the pair signaled safety and other times they brought a warning of danger. What was the meaning of this sighting?

“The time has come.” Softly she whispered the words. Like a jolt of lightning a thrill of excitement swept through her. Did that mean her and her halfling companions were ready to leave the safety of the keep and venture forth against their enemies? There were more opponents than she cared to face. She considered the number of doms and domas who followed Dom Senet, the four halflings he’d trained plus Zand’s former step-mother and her two sons. A shudder rolled through her body. There was also the voice of evil she’d heard on the winds.

Two years and a season had passed since the return from the quests for the remaining halflings, the heirs and the talismans. The sixteen companions had worked hard to gain mastery of their affinities of the elements. Four whose element was  Air, four Fire, four Earth and four Water united in four mixed quartets. A sliver of fear stabbed. Were they ready? She fought a desire to return to her bed and pull the covers over her head.

As the edge of the sun appeared above the distant mountains Ash closed the shutters. She thought about the birds and knew hiding was as impossible as a return to sleep. Not while her emotions rose and fell in waves. Should she wake the others and tell them about the birds? She frowned. If she did Ky, her younger sister, would scold and rouse everyone in the keep.

Ash grabbed her clothes and dashed to the necessary to wash and dress. Before she stirred the others into action she had to speak to Doma Jandia. Perhaps their teacher could interpret the meaning of the words and the arrival of the birds.

Tuesday's Writer's Tip Allegories #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #writing #beyond plot #allegory

Another type of story that moves beyoud plot is allegory. This type of story has that something that shows something beyond the surface. Of course, myths are often allegories and we've all read Aesop's fables. Those are simple. In a novel to write an allegory takes a lot of effort. Often each character plays a certain role. The wounded hero, the bright one, the money man.

Oneof the dangers in using allegory in the story is that the message can take over and turn the characters into cardboard figures. Another problem is that the symols must make sense at all times. Still, a loose type of akkegory is found in many literary stories.

Had to go have an infusion at the hospital since the oral meds weren't good for my kidneys. What a boring time. Toom them at least two hours to mix the stiff. ten minutes to unfuse me and then I had to sit for an hour.. Let's hope this will signal the end that way my first bout signaled the befinning.

This is the story of Lorana and Arton who join forces with a dragon to defeat an evil wizard and his son. The book is well written and the story interesting enough to keep me turning the pages even though this isn't my preferred genre.

Saturday's Blurbs feature books by Linda O Connor #MFRWAuthor #romance #Hockey #"fiancee" #lies and deceit

All my books are stand-alone stories and can be read in any order.

Love and the Hidden Hockey Clues (Laugh-out-Loud Hockey Caper Romance, Book 1)

Heat level PG

When she was younger, Dr. Abigail Clark dreamed of playing professional hockey, but the world wasn’t ready for a female player. That stung. She skated as far away from hockey as possible – until she lands a job in the emergency department of a hockey-crazy town and buys the house of the late beloved Zamboni driver. A tin box is discovered during the renovation of her new home, and Abigail brushes it off as a time capsule left by the previous owner – that is until someone tries to steal it. Turns out, the odd collection is more than just sentimental hockey memorabilia.

Abigail inadvertently embroils Del Braebury, captain of the local pro hockey team, into helping her sort it out. Her history with hockey players is rocky at best, but he comes in handy when she needs to access parts of the rink that are off limits. Del is happy to be tangled up in the clues of the hidden hockey loot. In the process of solving the mystery, he hopes to win Abigail’s heart!

Love and the Hockey Heist (Laugh-out-Loud Hockey Caper Romance, Book 2)

Heat level PG

Dr. Piper Roblin is peeved. She’s pretty sure her new neighbour stole her travel alarm clock. It may not be worth much, but it has sentimental value. Piper hatches a plan to get it back, but her plan relies on Brent Dean, popular forward of the Brighton Edge hockey team, to finagle a dinner invitation to gain access to her neighbour’s house.

Brent thought the invite from the stunningly beautiful cardiologist was based on a thoughtful gesture to welcome new neighbours to Brighton. He didn’t realize the gig included subterfuge, thievery, and a fake engagement. But he didn’t get to where he is without a lot of hustle and determination, and since he’s always up for some fun, let the games begin.

Sam O’Brien, aka “Dr. Eye Candy,” is trying to shed his playboy reputation and convince a small-town hospital that he’s ready to settle down.  But when his “fiancée” helps deliver a baby in the middle of the meet and greet, it’s a bit of a shock. If he’d known the whole truth, he might have done things a little differently because somehow his “fiancée” ends up stealing his job and his heart. Not exactly the change he wanted. Lies and deceit – it’s a match made in heaven!

Friday Linda O Connor is visiting and talking about Who She Was Before #MFRWAuthor #Doctor #medical #romance #hockey

Day 1

1. What were you before you became an author? Did this influence your choices as a writer?

I’m a physician, and I balance writing with my work at an Urgent Care Centre. I started writing because I wanted to find a fun way to disseminate medical information and to educate and empower readers to take ownership of their health, so it definitely does influence my choice of characters and plots. I try to weave the best parts of medicine into my stories! I also talk to people for a living, so I feel I have an easier time writing engaging dialogue, and I hear about a whole array of people’s experiences, which gives depths to my characters. My experiences – like delivering a baby when I didn’t expect to – have shown up in my stories, too!

2. Are you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres but subdivisions or romance, mystery or paranormal.

I write romantic comedies because I love being in a fun headspace when I’m writing. Laughter is essential to great health and nothing is better than a happily-ever-after ending. Most of my characters are doctors and the stories are medical romances. I incorporated doctors into a sexy hockey series called In the Game Hockey Romance, and my latest series, Laugh-out-Loud Hockey Caper Romance is a bit of an unusual genre in that the female characters are all doctors, the men are pro hockey players, and all the stories have an element of white-collar crime mystery – like a fun cozy mystery without a murder! This latest series are kisses-only, sweet with heat romances.

3. What is your latest release?

My latest release is Love and the Hockey Heist. It’s the second book in the Laugh-out-Loud Hockey Caper Romance series. It starts out with the theft of a treasured travel alarm clock, which triggers a hilarious series of events when Dr. Piper Roblin tries to steal it back! It involves a fake engagement with popular pro hockey player, Brent Dean. The theft of a travel alarm clock is based on a real-life experience of mine. I never did get it back, but turns out, it’s a fun premise for a story.

4. What are you working on now?

I’m working on the third story of the Laugh-out-Loud Hockey Caper Romance series. Lately, I’ve discovered how to make my own covers and marketing ads on Canva, and I’m having fun putting those together, too.

5. Do your reading choices influence your choice of a writing career?

I think they do. I enjoy reading cozy mysteries, but I don’t like the thought of killing off characters so I decided to write a white-collar crime mystery with fun twists and turns. I also love humorous stories like the Andy Carpenter series or books written by Sophie Kinsella, Marne Davis Kellogg, Ruth Reichl or Graeme Simsion.

6. Where can we find you?

I love to connect with readers. You can find me here:
