Saturday's Blurbs feature Books by Dee S. Knight

Only A Good Man Will Do (The Good Man Book 1)

1.      Only a Good Man Will Do

Daniel Goodman is a man on a mission. He aims to become headmaster of Westover Academy. For that he needs a particular, special woman to help him set high standards. Into his cut and dried life of moral and upright behavior, comes Eve Star, formerly one of Europe's foremost exotic dancers. Her life is anything but cut and dried, black and white. Daniel is drawn to her like a kid to chocolate. Nothing good can come of this attraction. Or can it? He is after all, a good man.

2.      Naval Maneuvers

Blurb: Men and women of the armed forces experience lust and love pretty much like everyone else. Except, well, there is that uniform. And the hard-to-resist attraction of "duty, honor, service" as a man might apply them to a woman's pleasure. All things considered, romance among the military is a pretty sexy, compelling force for which you'd better be armed, whether weighing anchor and moving forward into desire, dropping anchor and staying put for passion, or setting a course for renewed love with anchor home. Explore the world of love and the military and see just how hot Naval Maneuvers can be.

Before she knows it, her life is intertwined with a soldier from a long past war and with his descendant, Aaron, the handsome, sexy man who’s renovating the place. Sharing their lives is one thing. Sharing their passionate destiny proves to be something else.

Friday Dee S. Knight is visiting today and Telling us Who She was Before #MFRWAuthor

1.       What were you in your life before you became a writer? Did this influence you?
Before writing my first book I was a technical writer. Well, that isn’t wholly accurate. I was a Christmas gift wrapper (professionally but not as a profession, thankfully, No patience!), a clerk, an acquisitions librarian, a trucker, a computer applications consultant, a teacher, and then a technical writer. That makes it sound as though I had a hard time holding down a job, doesn’t it? But those jobs were over the course of about 26 years. I guess you could say everything I did helped prepare me for writing—the variety of places we traveled and then lived, and the wide breadth of experiences my husband and I shared. So many of them found a way into one book or another.

2.         2  Are you genre specific or general? Ithink I’m pretty general, although everything as Dee S. Knight has been erotic romance and mostly contemporary. I wrote first one regular contemporary erotic romance and then an adult fairy tale. The third was paranormal, and the fourth was normal contemporary again. I’ve also written a couple of space opera ménage books. Under another name, I’ve written wolf shape shifters and two historical ménage series. Again, under another name, I even wrote a ménage about a nun. Please don’t run screaming from the room! It isn’t at all trashy, and (as it turns out) the girl was never intended to be a nun. The book is set at the end of the Korean War and is a play about family and (especially) mothers. Anyway, I’ve explored a lot of sub-genre!

3.       Did your reading choices have anything to do with your choice of genre or sub-genre? Not really. I didn’t read all that many romances before I started writing, and to tell the truth, I didn’t know such a thing as erotic romance existed. I wrote a book and submitted it to my first publisher who said they needed more S-E-X in their books and in my ignorance (or maybe naivete?) thought, “How hard can that be?” So I wrote a book with lots of sex and sent it back. From then on, I just added sex to the stories I created. And I did eventually read other writers my publisher signed on and discovered that I like reading sexy stories as much as writing them! 😉

4.       What’s your latest release? My latest release is Book 1 of The Good Man series, Only a Good Man Will Do. A seriously ambitious man seeks woman to encourage his goals, support his (hopeful) position as Headmaster of Westover Academy, and be purer than Caesar's wife. Good luck with that!
It came out last October from Black Velvet Seductions.

5.       What are you working on now? I just finished a short story for Black Velvet’s supernatural anthology coming out in the fall. Now I’m continuing with Book 2 of The Good Man series, One Woman Only. I’ve been woefully neglectful of this book this past year due to real life, but I’m on track to finish soon. I hope everyone likes it!

6.        Where can we find you? m one of the authors on https://nomadauthors.com, along with two of my alter egos, Jan Selbourne, Amber Carlton, and Francis Drake. Thursday's Fourth Scene from Escape Affinities Book 1 #MFRWauthor #BWLPublishing #Fantasy #Young adult

Kylandra
The sound of her siblings’ voices edged into Ky’s dream. What were they doing in her room? She opened her eyes, expecting to see pale gray walls. Dark shadows danced across dark stone. She stretched her hand and felt the cold rock. Memories flooded back. The inner chamber. Her parents. The sadness of farewell. Tears filled her eyes, but she forced them away. There’d been a promise she had to believe.
She unrolled her cloak and stretched. Her fingers brushed the sheath of the flame sword. The numbing grief, screaming fears and furious anger she’d felt before falling asleep had been dampened. Had Bran taken them into himself again? She probed her memories of the journey through the dark passage. Not Bran. She’d discharged the worst of her feelings by calling fire to the sword. She staggered to her feet.
     “Morning,” her siblings chorused.
Ky laughed. “How can you tell what time of day it is? ‘Tis dark as night here.”
“We ate, slept and woke,” Jay said. “Has to be morning.”
“Shouldn’t we be on our way?”
“We haven’t much further to go,” Ash said.
     “Are you sure?” Jay asked.
“I think so, but ‘tis hard to know. We’ve gone faster than Mama and I did. Come and break your fast.”
Before joining the others, Ky went behind an outcropping to use the hole Jay had made. She wiped her hands on a cloth she wet with water from her flask, then heated her journey bread.
Bran looked up. “Before we go, I’ve something to tell you. I may have betrayed us.”
Ash grasped his hand. “You wouldn’t do that.”
“I didn’t mean to,” Bran said.
“How could you do that when you were always with us?” Jay asked.
“’Twas when you napped in that cavern. I wanted to scry for Mama and Papa.”
“Did you see them?” Ky asked. “Are they all right?”
Bran told them how he’d seen the corridor outside the inner chamber. Then he spoke of the army and the opening of the first wall of the henge.
Ky’s heart beat faster. She felt anger begin to rise and touched the red crystal. “Then what?” When Bran mentioned the Dom, she shivered. How could one from the high lands think to betray one of their own? In all the tales she’d heard, Doms and Domas were heroes. The idea of one embracing evil troubled her. “How long did he have you in his sight?” she asked.
“Not long,” Bran said. “I was so scared, I dropped the cup.”
“Do you think he knows where we are?” Ash asked.
“Don’t know.” Bran rose. “We’d better go. He might come hunting.”
“And maybe forget about the attack on the henge,” Ky said. “We should call him. Wouldn’t that help Mama and Papa?”
Bran shook his head. “They told us to go to Cedris, hide and wait. We must do what they said.”
“Do you remember what this Dom looks like?” Ash asked.
     “I’ll never forget his face.”
Ky grasped his hand and reached for Jay’s. “Show us. I would know his face.”
Ash completed the circle. Moments later, Ky stared at the face of a man with long fair hair. He sort of looked like their mother, but his pale eyes were cruel. She would remember him. She broke the circle and stamped on the tiny fire.
Ash lifted the torch and set off. Jay and Bran were on her heels.
Ky followed. Darkness closed around her. Would they ever escape this place? She felt as though the mesa pressed down on her. All she could see was the wavering light Ash carried. She heard the tapping of claws on stone. Die they belong to some nasty creature? Like the ratis that lived on the dead or the scorpons with poison in the barbs of their whip-like tails. She wanted out of here, to see the sun, the sky. She wouldn’t even mind a heavy autumn rain storm.
A shrill scream startled her. She grasped the hilt of the flame sword and raced toward the flickering torch.
When Ky reached her siblings, she saw Ash sitting with her back against one of the passage walls. The blazing torch lay on the ground. Ky ran to pick it up, but even the leather grip was aflame. She pulled one of the torches from her bundle. When it took fire, she joined the others. “What happened?”
Ash raised her head. “The web.”
Ky saw a thin red line on the back of Ash’s hand. “What web?”
“Around the bend. Blocks the passage.”
Ky lit a second torch and handed it to Jay. With the first one in her hand, she edged around the bend and stared at the pulsating mass that blocked the way. In the light from the torch, the fibers glistened like strands of old blood. Shaken by the sight, she retreated.
Bran knelt beside his twin. He pulled a cloth from one of his inner cloak pockets. After soaking it in water from his flask, he bound her hand.
     Ash sighed. “That feels better.”
“Tell us how this happened,” Bran said.
“I saw the web and thought to burn it so we could get past. I touched the torch to one of the strands fastened to the rock. It caught fire, but the end lashed free and touched my hand. Burned. Hurt worse than anything I’ve ever felt. Some of the web got on the torch. You saw how brightly it burned.”
Ky walked to the gutted torch. “It’s ashes now.”
“Was there anything like the web when you and Mama came this way?” Jay asked.
“The passage was clear. There was nothing like the color of that thing.”
“Then it was set to trap us,” Bran said. “The Dom must have come while we were sleeping.”
“Why?” Ky asked. “If he came last night, why didn’t he look for us? He could have caught and carried us off.”
“Then how did the web get here?” Ash asked.
“You and Mama were here in the spring,” Jay said. “’Tis autumn. There was time.”
“But Mama and Papa must have come this way to put supplies in the canyon,” Bran said. “They would have seen something like that.”
“Maybe he watched them,” Jay said. “Then he entered and laid the trap.”
Ky nodded. “Mama and Papa said the secret of the openings in the henge walls had been discovered. The bad Dom would have known about this road and laid the trap before he came to the henge.”
“How can we pass it?” Ash said.
“I could move the rocks,” Jay said. “But that would take a long time. I’m just learning.”
Ky rose. “This task is mine.”
     “How?” Bran asked.
     “With fire.”
Ash shook her head. “Fire did destroy some of the fibers, but look what happened to me.”
“I’ll use the flame sword. That’s different than a torch.” She handed her cloak to Bran and unsheathed the sword. As she thought about sending fire through the blade, she hoped she could master the flame. The only time she’d used the lessons her parents had given her had been when she’d set her fear, anger and grief free. “Fire can help and fire can harm.” The web was a thing of evil. Could she call forth anger without triggering other emotions?
Jay touched her arm. “Will the twin bond help?”
She shook her head. “Don’t think so, and you’d better all stay here. I don’t want to burn anyone by mistake.”
     “Be careful,” Ash said.
Ky walked around the bend and for the second time confronted the web. She jammed the torch in a crack in the rocks and studied the intricate pattern. She wished she’d asked Bran and Ash if a living creature had spun the web and if it lingered. She had no desire to face something from a bad dream.
Ash had tried to burn away the strands that clung to the rocks and had been burned. The center, Ky thought. That’s where she’d start.
She raised the sword and called fire. Tiny flames danced along the blade. She drove them together until a line of fire extended from the sword’s tip. As she glided toward the web, the strands seemed to quiver. Was the web a living thing? If so, ‘twas evil.
The tongue of flame touched the circle in the center of the weaving. A puff of dark smoke stained the air. Then with a rapidity she could scarcely believe, the center blackened. The darkness spread along the web lines. The smoke grew heavier, billowed and flowed toward her. She coughed. Her eyes watered and the sword wavered.
Back, she thought. The smoke stole the air she needed to breathe. Help!
A gust of wind came from behind her. The smoke cleared. Ash, thanks, she thought.
The fire had gutted a large part of the web. A few strands still formed a barrier near the ground. Though exhaustion threatened to swamp her, she gathered the flames and moved to clear the rest away.
The flame touched the red line. One end of it whipped toward her. The end touched and wound around her wrist. Ky screamed. The flame from the sword moved in a blinding pattern of light.
An exquisite pain shot from her wrist to her shoulder. The sword fell from her hand. Ky felt dizzy and she wanted to lose the contents of her stomach. Blackness engulfed her.
     “Ky.”
The voices sounded from a distance. She tried to sit up. Something cool touched her arm and the pain diminished. She looked around. Her siblings knelt beside her. Torchlight cast shadows on their faces. She raised her head. “My sword? Where is it? Was it destroyed by the web?”
     “It’s here,” Jay said.
“Help me up. We have to go.” Ky wasn’t sure from where the sense of urgency arose, but she knew speed was essential.
     “Can you stand?” Jay asked.
“I have to. What if the Dom knows we’ve escaped his trap? What if he closes the passage again and we’re trapped in the dark forever?” Her voice quavered with fear.
     “She’s right,” Ash said.
Ky grasped the sword and with some effort sheathed the blade. Jay and Bran helped her stand. They each put an arm around her waist and followed Ash around the bend where a patch of soot marked where the web had blocked the way.
     “Look,” Jay said.
Ky turned her head and saw the tendrils of dark red on the rocks. She breathed a sigh of relief as they passed by the re-forming web.
Walking jolted her arm. The pain returned. Though now ‘twas just a dull ache, the throbs reminded her of what she’d done. She felt hot, then cold, then hot again. Her head felt fuzzy. The voices of her siblings sounded like they spoke through feather pillows.
“She needs a potion,” Bran said. “And something to leach the poison from her arm.”
“Mama and Papa are sure to have packed herbs with the supplies,” Jay said.
Ky sank into her stupor and continued to move one foot after the other.

BLURB:

The four teens, led by the mysterious birds they believe are their parents seek a place of safety where they can learn to control their affinities. They find a place of refuge with Doma Jandia, grandmother of their friend Zand. The doma plans to take them to the highlands but news of the capture of two of their friends by Dom Senet, sends them on a rescue mission. Their powers are not strong enough to defeat the evil dom. They must find a way to succeed or their friends will be corrupted forever.

EXCERPT:
Alizand

Alizand prowled about his bed chamber.  He paused beside the window and pushed the heavy draperies aside.  Another day of confinement.  Since the day his step-brothers had invaded the suite, forcing Alizand to reveal his affinity for Fire, he’d been a prisoner.
At least the guards at the door believed he couldn’t leave.  They didn’t know about the hidden sections and the secret rooms and passages to be found beyond the walls.  Though Alizand could slip away, he should wait until night lest his room be checked.  Dom Senet often made random visits during the day.  Only when Alizand’s personal guard appeared could he escape these chambers. The corridors and places he could go had to be kept secret.
He was bored.  He even missed the tedious lessons he’d been given by the clan elders during the short time he’d been acknowledged as his father’s heir.  Having his affinity exposed had ended the dream of being deemed fit to become a prince.  No one who could use one or all of the elements could rule the princedom of Wesren.
He stared at the tray on the table.  A maidservant had delivered the food a short time before.  Though he had eaten nothing since yesterday’s midday meal, he had no desire to break his fast.
The back of Alizand’s neck prickled.  Trouble approached.  Which of the many enemies he’d collected in his fourteen years of life came to upset his day?
The door opened.  Before the guard could announce the visitor, a tall man entered.  His ash blond hair hung in a single braid.  Black leather riding clothes gleamed in the light from candles set in glass-shielded sconces on the wall.  His dark green eyes sought and held Alizand’s gaze.
A smile appeared on Dom Senet’s face.  Alizand felt like a tabby surrounded by a pack of ratis.  He forced himself to breathe.  How could one man raise such a high degree of terror?  Though Alizand’s legs felt unsteady, he forced himself to remain on his feet.
“Dom Senet.”  A sense of pride filled Alizand’s thoughts.  His voice hadn’t cracked or risen to a high pitch to reveal his inner quaking.
The dom stroked the multi-colored gem he wore about his neck.  The gold chain glinted.  “I have questions for you to answer.”
Questions, Alizand thought.  What kind of trick was this?  He couldn’t relax his barriers or forget his suspicions of the dom.  Was this a new way to fool him into becoming the dom’s puppet?  Alizand needed to respond.  To remain silent would expose his fear.  “What do you want to know?”
“About your kin, the children of your father’s step-brother.  I have a great need to find them.  Poor lost children who need a home and a guardian.”
Alizand’s hands clenched.  His friends had saved his life when he’d been injured in the aftermath of the destruction of the henge.  With them, he’d been Zand, a person and not a creature to be used.        “I don’t know where they are.  I told my father I didn’t and I say the same to you.”
“I think otherwise.”  The dom moved closer.
Alizand clung to his determination to resist.  He felt icy touches trying to push beneath his surface thoughts and invade his memories.  He pressed his hand against the gem beneath his tunic and strained to hold firm against Dom Senet’s invasion.  “How could I know where they’ve been or where they’re going?  I’ve been a prisoner here for weeks.”
Dom Senet ran a finger along Alizand’s cheek.  “And I imagine you have no idea how the child escaped the circle room.”
“What child?”  Though he had released Ky, he didn’t consider her a child.  The pressure in his head built until his vision and balance wavered.  “Is there a circular room in your suite?”  The pressure vanished so suddenly Alizand’s knees folded and he fell into the chair.
Dom Senet frowned.  “Perhaps someone else is to blame.”
     Alizand looked up.  “Who?”
“Don’t worry.  I’ll learn.  As for you, your barriers are stronger than they were the last time we met.  I haven’t time to break then now, but be assured when I return, you will answer to me.”
“Even if I don’t know the answers you want?”  To Alizand’s surprise, though inside he battled hysteria, his voice remained calm.
“This much I can tell you.  Your friends have left the city and foolishly chose to challenge me.  They gave themselves away.  Though they’ve escaped, they have nowhere to go.  I’m leading a patrol of guards eager to receive the reward your father has offered for the return of his step-brother’s children.  We will bring them back.”

His laughter sent prickles along Alizand’s skin.  “Will you betray my father by taking charge of them?”
“Betray him?  How?  Your father is mine to move as I will.  Once he sees these children have affinities, he’ll gladly name me as their guardian.”  The dom leaned closer.  “When I return with them you will come to me.  Don’t think to flee.  Remember, I touched your gem.  No matter where you go, I can find you, unless you remove the crystal and suffer the seizures of destruction.”  He strode to the door.

Tuesday's Writer's Tip - Overdoing Details - Research #MFRWAuthor #BWLAuthor #Research

In the book you're writing, you've ahd to research a subject. You have pages about this subject and want to weave it into your story. So you begin and go on and on. Suddenly your fictional story becomes a class about the subject you've researched. I know so well how this can happen. In one of my books, I was researching India. Now there wasn't that much about India in the book since the heroine and her sisters leave India and travel to England. When the first draft finished, I astounded myself with the amount of detail I had about the India of the 1800s. The entire first chapter read more like a travelogue of the time and the land.

Then came the revision and the cutting. Which of the facts would advance the story. After much hair-pulling, I finally trimmed about eight thousand words from the book.

Research is necessary for the writer to learn about places, careers and other things but must be used judiciously in the story. Put some of the things in dialogue rather than long passages of prose. You might sneak in some of the information in the character's thoughts. Just don't give a lecture about what you're writing about.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWAuthor #BWLPublishing #Poem #Writing

Meander 1 -- Poem -- Fear of Flying --

I used tp think I eared to fly
But now I'm not sure.
I think I feared the closed in space
That keeps me from being free.
To fly through the clouds
Would be wonderous indeed.
To soar, to float on fluffy clouds
To dance through the clouds of mist
How free that would make me be.

Meander 2 _ Audio book coming soon - I have an audio version of murder and Mint Tea coming soon. I've listened to the woman reading the book and many thoughts occurred. Did I really write that? It sounded much better than when I read the book aloud while proofing the books. Part of the reason is that I'm editing as I read but the other is I've learned to keep my voice expressionless. Can't wait until I have the full copy and can listen to it in full. What I heard were Chapters.

Meander 3 - Writing - I'm working hard on Forgotten Dreams and am coming to the end of a draft. One chapter and one scene to finish. Then I must start from chapter one and see if I can make it a better book. Then what next. I will be working on the second Lines of Fire book. Hopefully in less that two months.

Friday Alice Renaud is visiting and talking about Who She Was Before #MFRWAuthor #fantasy romance #Mermen

‘1. What were you in your life before you became a writer? Did this influence your writing?

I think I became a writer at the age of 14, when I wrote my first story, a sprawling, way-too-ambitious fantasy saga set in a world that the sea covered entirely once every 500 years. So before I was a writer I was a child. But I think a part of me has remained a child, in love with stories, monsters and heroes. Now I am a published writer but I also have a full time job as a compliance officer for a pharmaceutical company. I write at night – I think I might be turning into a vampire, without the bloodlust.

2.   Are you genre specific or general? Why? I don't mean genres like romance, mystery, fantasy etc. There are many subgenres of the above.

I write fantasy romance, because I’m a romantic at heart and fantasy was my first love. It’s reading The Lord of the Rings, aged 12, that made me want to become a storyteller. Even then I zoomed in on the romantic elements. My favourite character was Eowyn, the feisty shield-maiden, in love with a man she couldn’t have, because he was in love with a beautiful elf.

3. Did your reading choices have anything to do with your choice of a genre or genres?

I read widely – I love fantasy, paranormal, and historical romance, but I also like contemporary novels. Currently I’m reading “The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock,” by Imogen Hermes Gowar, and loving every word of it. It’s a historical romance with fantasy elements, so right up my street. I have written contemporary romance, but I enjoy writing fantasy a lot more, and that’s definitely because I’ve always loved fantasy books. Tolkien, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett are a few of my favourite authors.

4. What's your latest release?

My first book, A Merman’s Choice, was published in January this year by Black Velvet Seductions. It’s the story of the forbidden, but fated, love between a shape-shifting merman and a human woman, inspired by the landscapes and legends of Wales and Brittany. The second book in the series, Music for a Merman, is due out later this year.

5. What are you working on now?

I’m working on the third book in the Sea of Love mermen series. The title is “Mermaids Marry in Green.” This story is based in London, and is more of an urban fantasy, centred on the romance between a kick-ass shape-shifting mermaid and a warlock who is trying to give up magic. It’s great fun!

6. Where can we find you?

Thuesday's Fourth Scene from Past Betrayals, Past Loves #MFRWAuthor #BWLPublishing #Paranormal #Time travel

When her father led Mermeshu into the room where she kept the tallies, Seshat's breath caught. His fingers brushed her hand and her breasts felt heavy. His eyes caressed her body. Her heart fluttered like the wings of a bird in flight. Heat pooled in her belly.
"Show Mermeshu the tallies for the fields, flocks and herds," Sehetep said. "Intef and I will examine the warriors of the nome."
Once her father left, she wanted to run after him and she wanted to feel Mermeshu's arms around her. Today he wore no tunic. She stared at his tanned muscular chest and wondered if his body was as hard as it appeared. She inhaled his scent, a musky odor that tantalized. She handed him several scrolls. "These are the latest accounts."
He ran a finger over the back of her hand. She sucked in a breath. How could such a light touch make so many exciting changes in her body? He began to read. She walked toward the door.
"Don't go. I may have some questions."
Seshat went to the chest where the papyrus was stored. She studied his broad shoulders and the way his muscles moved as he read.
He finished the last of the tallies and stood. A wave of disappointment swept over her. "Have you no questions?"
He stepped behind her and caressed her shoulders. "I have two." He slid his hands across her shoulders and cupped her breasts. She moaned. "Do you feel what pulses between us?"
     "Yes."
"Will you come to the garden after moonrise to meet me?" He moved a hand to stroke her abdomen.
The sensations storming her body stole her breath. She sighed and leaned against him.
     "Seshat, be my star tonight."
     "I will come."
He pressed her against his groin. She felt his body change. "Oh."
"'Tis my desire you feel. Tonight you will know the power of my love." He brushed his lips over her shoulders. "Tonight."
Seshat sank on her stool. She felt fevered. She hovered at the edge of a discovery that excited and scared her. She gulped water and gathered her wandering wits. As she stored the scrolls, she rubbed the ones he'd touched over her lips. The scent of him lingered and filled her with longing.
Thanks be to Hathor. He wants me. He holds my heart in his warrior hands. She prayed he wouldn't crush it. May he spend the day with thoughts of me. Tonight, she thought and returned to her work.
When she reached her sleeping room, she found Tiy pacing. "What's wrong, little sister?"
     "That Nefru."
     "What has she done?"
"Banished me from taking the evening meal in the large hall. Just because Intef smiled and remarked on my skill with a bow. Since I don't behave like a lady, I must eat in the small hall. Then, when she heard Father had left Mermeshu with you, she spat like an angry cat."
Seshat shook her head. "I fear Nefru desires a life of unhappiness."
Tiy sat on Seshat's sleeping couch. "What did Mermeshu do? What did he say?"
"He examined the harvest tallies." She would keep his words and caresses secret.
"That's all? I saw the hungry look in his eyes last night. He left the garden soon after you. I hid in the bushes and watched Nefru and Intef. She rubbed his body and kissed his man thing. Put it in her mouth. He made funny noises. Then he acted like a babe and suckled her breasts. He pulled her robe up and did things to her private parts. She moaned and cried for Mermeshu."
Seshat grasped Tiy's arms. "You shouldn't spy." She walked to the door. Tiy followed her to the bathing room. "I'll eat the evening meal with you."
"And miss being with the guests?" Tiy asked.
To spend the lengthy meal time in Mermeshu's presence might make her
betray herself. "They have come to see Father. After we eat, I'll help you with the harp."
"Good." Nefru rose from the couch where her maid had oiled her body. "An important decision should be reached this evening." Her sly cat's smile didn't hide the hatred in her eyes. "When Father dies, Seshat, beware your fate. You have no kin to protect you. Tiy will be my handmaiden. You will be my slave." She caressed her breasts. "Mermeshu will be mine. Intef said the Commander of the Army finds me most pleasing."
Seshat turned away. Nefru was clever at finding ways to gain her desires. Would she steal Mermeshu's love?
