 Tell me about your latest release or the book you wish to feature? Genre?

Dominique is a short vampire story about an artist who decides he's been lonely for too long and wants to find a companion. He meets someone and falls in love fast, but she has secrets that prove to be dangerous to him.

 

2. Where did the idea arise?

I wanted to write a short vampire love story that has elements of romance and horror. While writing Dominique it felt like a fairy tale.

 

3. How much research was involved? Did you stay on point or be distracted by wanting to look at just one more thing?

It has a historical setting, so it took some research about that, and I particularly looked at the history of miniatures because as an artist, Dominique specialized in those.

 

4. How long did you take to write the book?

Most short stories take a week or two to write the first draft, but it can take months to years to polish them. Dominique underwent several changes, but altogether it probably took about three months to reach the final story.

 

5. Now a bit about you. How long have you been writing? What is your Sun Sign?

I've been writing since I was a child. When I was about sixteen I decided to start submitting work for publication, and it took about ten years after that for my first story to get accepted. Not surprisingly, it was a short, erotic vampire story. It's about twenty-seven years later, and I still love to write vampire stories! My sign is Libra.

 

6. Do you write in a number of genres of stick to one?

I mainly write romance in a variety of subgenres, but sometimes I also write horror.

1. Are you a panster or a plotter or perhaps a bit of both?

I'm a bit of both. I always work with a loose outline. Before I start writing, I need to know the beginning and the end of a story, and also a few major plot points in between, but I leave wiggle room for the changes that always happen.

2. Which comes first - characters or plot for you?

Usually the characters come first, but when I think of them, they're involved in a particular scene that usually, but doesn't always, end up in the final story.

3. What are you working on now? Is this a book in a current series or something totally new?

Right now I'm working on Amelia and Orion, the next book in the Wild Witches of Beaver Bay series. Amelia and Orion have appeared as secondary characters in other Wild Witches stories. They have been co-workers and friends for years and have feelings for each other that they keep hidden. A mix of demon, human, and vampire, Orion in particular fights his romantic feelings for Amelia.

4. Do you have some kind of object or place that figures in most of your books? I use gems a lot, hospitals and caves.

Many of my books take place in New England. In the Wild Witches of Beaver Bay series, the Wild family's magical ancestral land is located in New Hampshire.

5. Do you write everyday or just when the spirit hits?

Usually, I write every day. Some days I write more than others, but I generally try to write at least 1000 words a day. I also work on edits and promotions daily.

 !. What were you in your life before you became a writer? Did this influence your writing?

I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I think life experiences sometimes affect my writing and sometimes my writing prompts experiences that affect my life.  Here's what I mean. Years back, I visited Morocco during a vacation and it influenced the setting of a book I wrote. Later, I wrote a book in which one of the main characters was a belly dancer. I took lessons for research and I still like to belly dance today. I'm not good at it, but I still enjoy it. In the first case, the vacation influenced my writing and in the other case, my writing guided me toward a form of exercise I probably wouldn't have tried without a specific need.

2.  Are you genre specific or general? Why? I don't mean genres like romance, mystery, fantasy etc. There are many subgenres of the above.  

I'd say I'm general because I like to write many different subgenres of romance, but I also enjoy writing horror and fantasy at times. I don't like to place limits on my writing. 

3. Did your reading choices have anything to do with your choice of a genre or genres? 

Definitely. I've always loved romance novels, but I sometimes had trouble relating to the characters, in particular the heroines. Way back in the day, romance novels also didn't have much action or paranormal/horror elements like they do today, so I started writing stories that I'd like to read and couldn't generally find.

4. What's your latest release? 

My latest release is a dark fantasy romance called Demon's Grotto. It includes three stories set in the same building. The stories are self-contained, but they're also part of an overall plot. Here's a short blurb about the book.

Right now I'm working on a series of books about former military buddies and how they meet the women of their dreams. I'm also nearly finished with a historical romance, the sequel to my novel, Captain's Mercy.
