Friday Diane Bator is visiting and talking about her new release and more #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #mystery #All That Shines

1. Tell me about your latest release? Genre?

My latest release is ALL THAT SHINES, a cozy mystery that came out this month. It is book 2 in my Glitter Bay Mystery series and I had a lot of fun writing it. The best part of this book was the addition of a new, transgender character named Quinn who I can’t wait to write more about.

2. Where did the idea arise?

Book 1 in the series was about Laken Miller, a former model who retired and moved in with her sister, Sage. Sage has always been in the background and I wanted to tell her story. All That Shines has less to do with the glittering objects in her shop Vintage Sage than it does about Sage and Quinn both stepping out of their comfort zones.

3. How much research was involved? Did you stay on point or be distracted by wanting to look at just one more thing?

I am blessed to have transgender friends and relatives and borrowed thoughts from them to create Quinn. She may seem a bit cliché as a fashion designer in this book, but she has a heart of gold and her character will keep developing in book 3.

Research is always one of those things that can take you down a bottomless rabbit hole! I had to pull away from researching Greta Garbo in Mata Hari! Quinn is a fan.

4. How long did you take to write the book?

All That Shines took me about 5 months to write – with edits. I’m grateful to have a fabulous beta reader who actually was my first publisher for a novella way back when.

5. Now a bit about you. How long have you been writing? What is your Sun Sign?

I have been a writer since I can remember. My goal in life as a kid was to be on the Oprah show as either a writer or an actor. Currently, I’m a writer and budding playwright who works in a theatre. My sun sign is Cancer. I’m a homebody which has helped during all the lockdowns we’ve had over the past year. Fingers crossed I’ll be back in my office soon instead of hanging out with the cats at home.

6. Do you write in a number of genres of stick to one?

My published books are all cozy mysteries, but I also started writing fantasy novels and plays. I was fortunate enough to get to take a playwriting workshop with Norm Foster who is an amazing playwright. I also have a very supportive artistic director I work with.

7. Where on the internet can you be found?

I’m everywhere!!
