Janet Lane Walters has written a charming tale.
As a child, Laurel Richmond was trapped in a car with her dead parents for hours. After losing them, Laurel's next of kin was a bank. Laurel hides her immense wealth, traveling internationally as a nurse, helping the sick. She decides to settle in Eastlake, a small community.

She once summered with her friend Megan, developing a huge crush on Megan's brother, Alex, who is now a divorced doctor raising his young son Johnny. Alex is leary of wealth because his rich ex-wife had no time for him or Johnny, but Johnny takes to Laurel right away.

The glimpses of a family life that Laurel experiences with Johnny and Alex leave her longing for her dreams to become reality. Can she get Alex to realize that money may bring power, but love offers peace?

Exhausted, Laurel,whose star sign is Taurus, is an heiress orphaned in tragic circumstances when she was three-years-old. She leaves India, where she has been working for International Health Rescue Mission as part of a team following disasters, dispensing care and training health workers. She has fled from Neil Browne who asked her to marry him, but she did not want all he has to offer her, a roving life. When she arrives in America with the hope of finding a permanent home, Alex Carter, her friend Megan’s brother collects her from the airport. Within next to no time she collapses and is admitted to hospital suffering from pneumonia. Alex, a doctor, father of five-year-old Johnny, is still angry after his divorce and his former wife’s death. There is no room in his life for another spoiled, selfish rich woman so it’s useless for Megan to match make. This is an intriguing novel about two characters with problems which need to be resolved, and Alex’s delightful, but insecure young son, who adores his father and is traumatised by the loss of his mother. The Taurus Scorpio Connection is a story to relax with and enjoy it.

EXCERPT:

When Cassie reached the main room she popped the movie disc in place, filled the second flute with champagne and selected a truffle. As she savored the rich chocolate she draped the afghan over her shoulders and reached for the remote.

A rumble of thunder drowned the opening music of the movie. A loud crash made her jump. Had lightning struck nearby? She crossed to the window and turned on the yard lights.

A heap on the ground near the end of the driveway caught her attention. A movement made her realize she saw a body. She grabbed a yellow slicker from a hook near the door, slipped on her sneakers and opened the door.

Moments later she clattered down the steps. Rain pelted her. She raced to the figure. As she drew closer she saw a man wearing a helmet and leather jacket. A motorcycle rested against the lone pine tree beside the drive.

Cassie crouched and felt for a carotid pulse. The steady beat against her fingers reassured her. When she grasped his shoulder he groaned. Her breath escaped on a sigh. She needed to see if any bones had been broken and get him out of the storm. While she was a doctor, hearts not bones were her specialty.

“Where do you hurt?”

He groaned. “Everywhere.”

“Can you move your arms and legs?”

He complied. This time his groan emerged louder and deeper.

“Try to sit up.”

Slowly he eased into a sitting position. “My bike?”

Cassie choked back a laugh. How like a man. “Before you worry about your wheels you need to get out of the rain and be checked for other injuries. Can you stand?”

“Probably.”

With her help he stood and swayed. He clutched Cassie’s shoulders. They nearly fell but she steadied him.

“Easy.” She put an arm around his waist. “Did you lose consciousness?”

“Don’t think so. Had the breath knocked out. Stunned a bit.” He drew a breath. “Must have been a deer.”

“What are you talking about?”

“The thing on the road. Big. Dark. Saw the creature in a flash of lightning. Couldn’t stop.”

Cassie peered toward the road. If he’d broadsided a deer, the animal would be on the road either dead or badly injured. She saw no sign of one. The motorcycle had crashed into the tree where the road curved. Had he been more than stunned? Was he drunk? Was she a fool for taking a stranger into the cabin?

She could leave him at her car and run inside for her keys. They could drive to town. Except she wasn’t dressed for going to town or for entertaining a guest.

“Where are we going?”

“To the cabin so I can check you for injuries.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

His deep voice held a quality that sent heat rushing through her veins. She faltered. Why the reaction? With all the recent developments she should avoid thinking of any man as attractive until she recovered from the pain of Tim’s rejection.

She helped the stranger through the wind driven rain to the roofed porch. The protection from the steady downpour was welcome. She opened the door and they stepped inside. Water beaded on her yellow slicker and his leather jacket. Pools collected on the slate foyer floor.

She shivered. “Cold.”

“Makes two of us.”

Cassie released her hold on him and dragged a metal kitchen chair with a padded seat and back into the entrance. She wished for her medical bag so she could do a complete assessment but the bag was at her apartment. While she couldn’t check his blood pressure or listen to his heart his pulse beat strong and steady. For the rest of the exam she could improvise.

“What year is it?” She asked the first question to check his mental status.

He answered with month, day and year.

“Where are you?”

1. What were you before you became an author? Did this influence your choices as a writer?

I started off as a trainee Medical Laboratory Technician. That was growing bodily fluids to see if they were infected or staring down a microscope to see what was wrong with their blood. I’m a people person, and I always chatted with patients while collecting their blood. One lovely man reminded me of grandad, and he knew I played bridge. The last time I saw him, he brought me his cards and other bridge paraphernalia since he wouldn’t use them again. He died that night. I was heartbroken and quit the next day. I drifted into accounts work, which I loved, but I ended up working for one of the UK’s big three soaps - Emmerdale. I was a tiny cog in a giant wheel, but it was fun.

2. Are you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres but subdivisions or romance, mystery or paranormal.

I grew up in a house full of Mills and Boon books. It’s no surprise that I only write romance. Back when I was a kid, Mills and Boon was all sweet kisses, heart, and flowers. My romances are far naughtier than that.

I’ve written contemporary and paranormal. I love werewolf romance, but my latest book featured a vampire menage. To quote one of 5star reviews, Even without the sexual content, of which there is plenty, this would have been a great story.

3. What is your latest release?

Claimed as Theirs – a hot, hot, hot vampire romance with adventure, action, and HEA Althugh it’s a stand alone, it’s set in the same world as my bestselling Taken as Theirs

4. What are you working on now?

I’ve finished the first draft of a middle-grade book. Something my grandkids can read. I’ve a long way to go. First I need to find a publisher. I’m dyslexic and won’t self-publish. (MYyFacebook feed shows how hard I need to work to make my manuscripts mistake free. I need at least six readthroughs then get a couple of beta readers involved.

5. Does your reading choices influence your choice of a writing career?

I’m the sort of person who can’t sleep without reading first. If it’s printed, I’ll read it. I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and get through at least three romances a week. I try to mix other genres in after that.

6. Where can we find you?

I live in the North of England on the East Yorkshire Coast. Bridlington is a small fishing town that’s growing fast. I try to walk by the sea daily. I’m often seen with friends dancing in local bars or entering their quizzes.
