1.      What were you in your life before you became a writer? Did this influence your writing?

First off, I would like to thank you for having me once again as a guest on your blog, Janet.

I worked in the fashion industry all my working life, and was fortunate, as far as my writing went, that my back problems forced an early retirement. It was then that I was able to write full time. My husband was going off to work each day, so leaving me in writer’s paradise, as I was able to then sit at my typewriter/word processor (before the days of a computer) for hours at a time. As far as my job influencing my writing, I guess the answer to that is not really, except working in a large factory, populated by people from around the world, taught me a lot about people in general. A Heart in Conflict, is the only one of my books featuring the fashion world and that was fun to write.

2.      Are you genre specific or general? Why? I don't mean genres like romance, mystery, fantasy etc. There are many subgenres of the above.

Because I have always just written what took my fancy at that time, I write across several genres including Time-Travel, Historical, Contemporary, but all have romance at their heart, even my mainstream. 

3.      Did your reading choices have anything to do with your choice of a genre or genres?

Most definitely. My first effort at a full-length novel was a contemporary romance, because someone gave me a box full of Mills & Boons, and I thus tried that genre without further thought. That first book has never been finished or published (perhaps I will drag it out one day). Even when a child, I read many time-travels. As an adult, I read a lot containing Scottish Highlanders or Viking warriors both of which fascinated me. My list of favourite authors in those early days was a mile long but just to name a few: Jude Deveraux, Catherine Cookson, Catherine Coulter, Victoria Holt and Bertrice Small influenced me.

4.      What's your latest release?

Crying is For Babies is a true story based on the life of one of my sisters who suffered at the hands of callous surgeons when she was eight years old. The butchery received saw her confined to bed for three years and left her with a disability and pain that lasted the rest of her life. Despite this, or perhaps because of this, she was a woman of amazing talent and strength, loved by all who knew her.

5.      What are you working on now?

For years readers have been asking me when I am going to write book three in my Settlers Series, so I thought it about time I did this. The first book in the series, Mystic Mountains, began in Sydney Town in the early 1800s when it was a mere collection of huts and people were transported there from Britain for petty crimes. The convicts made up the vast population of the town. In book three, Challenging Mountains, we move on to 1840 when Bella and Tiger’s eldest son Tim has just turned twenty-one. As his father before him, Tim has an insatiable urge to travel and seek out new pastures. Only he has no desire to be a sheep farmer like his Pa. Along with his Uncle Carlos, he sets out to go overland to the newly settled township of Port Philip (later called Melbourne). The journey might not be as treacherous as the one his father, Tiger, undertook to cross the Blue Mountains, but nonetheless there are still many hazards to face along the month long trek. One of the biggest challenges thrown Tim’s way is a young woman with a stubborn streak and a sense of adventure to match his own.

1          What were you in your life before you became a writer? Did this influence your writing?

Thanks so much for having me as a guest again on you blog, Janet.

I worked in the fashion industry for over 30 years as a pattern cutter. I guess this had little influence whatsoever on my writing. Except, that I worked with some interesting women who had many tales to tell of their escapades in life. For anyone who has worked in the close environment of a factory with a large assortment of women and a few men who tend to divulge their private lives to all and sundry, you know what I mean when I say that early on I learnt a lot of the basic facts of life from my fellow workmates. Whether this influenced my writing I don’t know, but it sure taught me a thing or two about relationships and the foibles of various types of people.

2.       Are you genre specific or general? Why? I don't mean genres like romance, mystery, fantasy etc. There are many subgenres of the above.

            I am basically a Romance writer and have stuck to this genre through my writing career. My romances cross sub-genres as I have dabbled in Time-Travels, Contemporary, Historical, Family Saga, and even written one Sci-Fi/fantasy.  

3. Did your reading choices have anything to do with your choice of a genre or genres?

Certainly. I read romances extensively before taking up writing them. My favourite choice of reading material has always been time-travel or historical romance.  I have nothing against erotica, horror or even mysteries but I am a dyed in the wool romantic, and always have been.

4. What's your latest release? 

My latest book out is A Call Through Time, a Time-Travel set in Britain around 450AD just after the Romans left and invaders from across the sea where starting to come across to find fresh pastures in the lush valleys. And also to invade, ravage and rampage across the land. My hero (An English Earl) goes back in time and meets the woman who has been sharing his dreams for years. He learns that there is a purpose for this sudden trip back, and that is to rescue the fair maiden from the clutches of one of these dastardly invaders from Europe. There is a smattering of sorcery, magic, fairies, shapeshifting and even reincarnation in this one.

5. What are you working on now?

My current work in progress is Amethyst, another contemporary set in Australia as are all of my modern romances. Amy is going out with easy-going Tony. They live in a small country town where everyone knows everyone else (and their business) and because these two have been going around together for most of their lives everyone now considers them a couple. But Amy still yearns for the affections of Tony’s older, more serious brother, who spurned her young love when she was just a teenager, and went off to the big city to make his fortune. When he returns home and says he is prepared to settle down in the small town again, she is not so sure that he won’t miss the fast life he has been living in the city. Add a touch of football (Footy to the Aussies) and you have a triangle of people at odds with each other and their hearts.

1. Do you write a single genre or do your fingers flow over the keys creating tales in many forms?

Does your reading choices reflect your writing choices?

Are there genres you wouldn’t attempt?

Thanks for having me once again on your blog, Janet. My books are all romances in various sub/genres. I have always tended to write depending on my current state of mind. My favorite choice is Time-Travel but I enjoyed writing my historical series “Settlers” as like Time-Travels they entailed a lot of digging back into the past, and I am a glutton for research.

My reading choices definitely reflect my writing choices. I don’t read horror, mystery, or erotica so therefore would not attempt to write any of these genres but admire others who do.

2. Heroes, Heroines, Villains. Which are your favorite to write?

My heroes top the list there. I tend to fall in love with all my heroes but some are more favorite than others. I don’t mind throwing in the odd villain along the way and that’s another reason I enjoy Time-Travels and Historicals as they invariably need a villain to stir things up.

3. Heroes. How do you find them? Do pictures, real life or plain imagination create the man you want every reader to love? Do they come before the plot or after you have the idea for the story?

My heroes have all been based on whoever was my current movie star favorite. Matthew McConaughey (when younger) featured a lot in my mind early on. They are usually this vague person lingering at the periphery of my mind as I write but I have moved on as my tastes changed, so my favorite model hero changed. I don’t go in for the very young hero as most of mine have been in their 30s. I invariably have a good idea what they look like as I begin to plot the story.

4. Heroines. How do you find them? Do pictures, real life or imagination create the woman you want the reader to root for? Do they appear before the plot or after you have the idea for the story?

Same again, my heroines have changed along with the times. I used to collect images and work with them but haven’t done that in a while. It’s a bit disappointing when you have the exact picture of what you want them to look like and the cover artist’s idea is completely different. So, I prefer now to just have a vague idea apart from height, hair and eye color etc. or descriptions that are vital to the story.

5. Villains or villainesses or an antagonist, since they don’t always have to be the bad guy or girl. They can be a person opposed to the hero’s or heroine’s obtaining their goal. How do you choose one? How do you make them human?

My villains have most definitely all been human and mostly nasty characters who are out to upset either the hero’s or heroine’s plans, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

6. What is your latest release? Who is the hero, heroine and or the villain?

My latest release is Kate’s Dilemma. Kate of course is the heroine and she is a 26 year old artist. She is determined to remain single but her libido has other ideas as she falls for Liam who is also of the same mind. He’s been hurt by a woman and is set on never falling into the marriage trap. Problem is they have the hots for each other and find it hard to resist this attraction. I guess the villain in the piece is female this time and she tries to come between them of course.

7. What are you working on now?

I’m re-working one of my old time-travels which will be my next release, but as yet can’t make up my mind on the new title. Most that I have come up with so far have been over-used. I am waiting for inspiration to hit as I work on the manuscript. I can say that my English hero travels back to Britain as it was just after the Romans had departed, and meets the woman who has been haunting his dreams.
