Now is the time for revenge. Plans are made for action. If there is a single person tapped for revenge, pursuit may take place. If there are multiple persons for revenge justice can be taken one by one. There may be a third person who tries to thwart the person seeking revenge. The action leads toward the third phase of the plot.

He can be absent or be restrained and forced to watch the crime take place. This first scene shows the crime and builds a relationship between the character and the readers. While the hero depends on the law he comes to the conclusion there will be no justice unless he goes after it. This decision ends the opening of the plot.
