1. Are you a panster or a plotter or perhaps a bit of both?
Funny! I start out as a plotter and then let the
characters direct the story where it needs to go.
2. Which comes first - characters or plot for you?
The plot always comes first for me. I like to have an
action so my characters can move around in a story. Once I have a plot, then I
develop the characters to react around the action.
3. What are you working on now? Is this a book in a current
series or something totally new?
Currently, I’m writing the third novel in the Euphoria
trilogy. I’m still undecided on the name. I’d love to work on my other
projects, but my Euphoria characters are constantly in my head. I’ve tried
multitasking a few times, writing my children’s books during Euphoria novels,
but I have too many plots distracting me, and I end up working on several
stories simultaneously and can’t concentrate on my own life.
4. Do you have some kind of object or place that figures in
most of your books? I use gems a lot, hospitals and caves.
I created an Amazon shrub called Bixa aparra. The
first book, Finding Euphoria, focused on extracting a chemical aparistine from
the bark and leaves of the shrub to derive the drug Euphoria. Saving Euphoria,
the second book concentrates on a chemical named bixine from the shrub’s roots
to produce a mind-altering drug. The third book will center on Bixa aparra’s
flowers. Euphoria does double-duty because the books also correlate with
the protagonist’s state of life. In the first novel, the protagonist struggled
throughout the story to find happiness. This second book has the character
working to save a dying shrub and also the happiness she’d lost when her
husband died. I also use roses to keep a sentimental connection between the
protagonist and her husband.
5. Do you write everyday or just when the spirit hits?\
I try to write every day, even if it’s only editing my
current work. Any time of writing is beneficial. My favorite time to write is
at night when my family is in bed.

7. Who are your favorite authors? What about a book you’ve
enjoyed?
My favorite authors are Debbie Macomber, Judith
McNaught, and Robin Cook. I love to read so many different genres, but McNaught’s
Remember When ranks up there as one of my favorites. I like the happy endings
in romances, but love science in books, as well.
