Long BlurbUp-and-coming mommyblogger and single mom Marisol Herrera Slade returns to her old hometown in western Pennsylvania for her 20th high school reunion in 2005, reluctant and yet compelled to see her high school sweetheart, Russell Asher, who dumped her for the homecoming queen.

Russell's marriage to the golden girl, however, ended in a nasty divorce, and he has been systematically excluded from his sons' lives. In his Internet wanderings, he's found feminist blogger named Jerrika Jones, who glorifies single motherhood, essentially putting a stamp of approval on what's happened to him. His group of single dad advocates have vowed to take this woman down.

What Russell doesn't know, when he thinks to rekindle what he had with Marisol, is that Marisol and Jerrika are one and the same. When his group discovers the truth, will their drive for revenge derail any chance the couple have to reunite? Or will they find they have more in common than they ever expected?

THAT GIRL'S THE ONE I LOVE

Leyla Brand has one perfect day in her life: the day she meets rock singer Arran Lake at the Bele Chere Festival in Asheville. They have so much in common, Leyla is sure they are soulmates and will have a future together.
The very next morning, when Arran receives the call to hit the big time, he vanishes into the world of California rock and roll to become an international star, leaving her behind. Only a few phone calls keep them in touch -- until his phone is disconnected. After that, all she has of him is every new song that hits the charts.
Five years later, she gets a message on the Internet from an unfamiliar address. Someone wants to know if she's the Leyla of Bele Chere. Should she open that door and discover who this might be? Who else could it be? And if it is Arran, why does he want to contact her now, after all this time? Will he just break her heart again?

Friday Alana Lorens is visiting and talking about Panster or Plotter #MFRWAuthor #Panster #Plotter

 Pantser or Plotter

Day 1

1. Are you a pantser or a plotter or perhaps a bit of both?

Both, actually. I begin as a pantser—starting with whatever “what if” has caught my attention. For this book, SECOND CHANCES, it was “what if an associate in a law office gets kicked out at 42 with no prospects?” I knew she’d meet her future office mate—and more—but not the details, after that. About halfway through, when I see the character arc coming together, then I put together a chapter by chapter map of what has to happen as we’re moving forward.

2. Which comes first - characters or plot for you?

Definitely characters. In my opinion, people and their wants and choices and emotions drive any story forward, real or fictional, for better or worse.

3. What are you working on now? Is this a book in a current series or something totally new?

I’m editing a manuscript that’s totally different for me. It’s a straight thriller, not a romance, and it jumps around in time (the way THIS IS US has been) building in the backstory in alternating chapters. Of course, in beginning the story with Bet, our protagonist, stumbling out of a burnt out car in the Everglades, with no recollection of how she got there, there’s a lot of mystery about to be revealed!

4. Do you have some kind of object or place that figures in most of your books? I use gems a lot, hospitals and caves.

I don’t, actually. ðŸ˜Š

5. Do you write everyday or just when the spirit hits?\

I do SOMETHING every day. Many days, it’s working on the current new work in progress. Otherwise, it’s editing manuscripts that have yet to be submitted, or doing press for the book about to be released, or writing blog posts for myself or someone else, or hanging with my critique groups, or updating social media or… seems like the writer’s life is never a dull moment!

6. Where can we find you?

Author Bio

Alana Lorens has been a published writer for more than forty years, after working as a pizza maker, a floral designer, a journalist and a family law attorney. Currently a resident of Asheville, North Carolina, the aging hippie loves her time in the smoky blue mountains. She writes romance and suspense as Alana Lorens, and sci-fi, fantasy and paranormal mystery as Lyndi Alexander. She is the author of the Pittsburgh Lady Lawyers series, which draws on her years as a family law attorney in the state of Pennsylvania. One of the causes close to her heart came from those years as well–the fight against domestic violence. She volunteered for many years at women’s shelters and provided free legal services to women and children in need. She lives with her daughter, who is the youngest of her seven children, three crotchety old cats and six others who are in various degrees of insanity.

7. Who are your favorite authors? What about a book you’ve enjoyed?

I grew up on the gothic romance circuit, so Victoria Holt, Dorothy Eden, Barbara Michaels, Mary Stewart, et al. But the other half of me is sci-fi oriented, so I also love Anne McCaffery’s books as well as Stephen King. The Stand is probably one of my all time faves—love the characters in that one.

The councilman strikes out at Suzanne, Nick, and eventually, anyone he can think of who might make Suzanne back off. Will they be able to stave off the danger long enough for their love to blossom?

SECOND CHANCES begins the day attorney Inessa Regan receives a pink slip after ten years of faithful service. She’s been a mid-level associate her whole career, partners telling her what to do, providing her with an office and everything she needs. Thrown out into the legal world on her own, she doesn’t know how she’ll survive.  Her neighbor brings her first client, Kurt Lowdon, a young Iraq veteran with cancer, who’s looking just to have a will made. Inessa struggles to give Kurt what he needs, and he helps make it easy for her.

Once his immediate needs are met, he takes her under his wing and brings her more clients as well as a place to open an office to see them. Things begin to fall together for her, including a very special friendship with Kurt that becomes something more. But his past military service, and the friends he’s made there, begin to cause problems for them both, as well as issues his drug-addicted sister delivers to his doorstep. He still hasn’t kicked his cancer, either, and Inessa wonders if falling in love with him is a blessing or a curse.

Book three of the series is from The Wild Rose Press, about a Pittsburgh Lady Lawyer who is trapped in a voodoo mess in New Orleans at Mardi Gras!

When her big trial goes bad, corporate attorney Brianna Ward can’t wait to get out of Pittsburgh. The Big Easy seems like the perfect place to rest, relax, and forget about the legal business. Too bad an obnoxious—but handsome—lawyer from a rival firm is checking into the same bed and breakfast.

Attorney Evan Farrell has Mardi Gras vacation plans too. When he encounters fiery and attractive Brianna, however, he puts the Bourbon Street party on hold. He’d much rather devote himself to her—especially when a mysterious riddle appears in her bag, seeming to threaten danger.

Strangely compelled to follow the riddle’s clues, Brianna is pulled deeper into the twisted schemes of a voodoo priest bent on revenge. To escape his poisonous web, she must work with Evan to solve the curse. But is the growing love they feel for each other real? Or just a voodoo dream?

Alana Lorens and Lyndi Alexander Is visiting and talking about Who She Was Before #MFRWAuthor #Romance #Suspense #Fantasy

1. What were you before you became an author? Did this influence your choices as a writer?

I started off as a journalist in south Florida, working a small daily called the South Dade News Leader. Then for some crazy reason, I decided to become a lawyer, and registered for law school as a single mom of two girls, ages 3 and 5. (I know, right?!)  After that, I practiced family law for 30 years, in Florida, then Pennsylvania.  Several of my books feature lawyers as heroines, so I’d say that expertise came in handy.

2. Are you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres but subdivisions or romance, mystery or paranormal.

One of the things I’m proud of is that I don’t write to a romance “formula.” My stories come to me on a range of topics, so I have romance, romantic suspense, suspense/thriller. Fantasy, sci-fi, and back to sci-fi romance. And a paranormal mystery! The romances are under Alana Lorens, the fantasy/sci-fi under Lyndi Alexander

3. What is your latest release?

TENDER MISDEMEANORS, a romantic suspense, came out March 18 from the Wild Rose Press.  Here is the story: Caryn Orlane has law enforcement in her blood; her father was a cop, and his father, too. She's a federal agent in northwest Montana, protecting the old forests and keeping the peace.
Levi Bradshaw also believes in protecting the forests, but has a very different MO. He's the leader of a group of eco-warriors, determined to save the trees of the Bitterroot by legal—and illegal—means.
When they meet in the woods at gunpoint, their encounter ignites a spark of interest, despite operating on opposite sides of the law. When their worlds turn on them, they only grow closer. If they don’t work together, can either survive?

And buy links:

4. What are you working on now?

A ménage a trois story with a man, a woman and a gender-swapping alien traveling in dangerous space. https://lyndialexander.wordpress.com/works-in-progress/

5. Do your reading choices influence your choice of a writing career?

Probably. For years I read gothic romances and then Victoria Holt, Jane Aiken Hodge, Dorothy Eden, so romantic suspense is firmly embedded in my brain. Same with sci-fi—Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke and so on. Now I’m reading A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, studying how to create such compelling characters.
