Meander 1 -- Poem -- Promises --
A pale glittering gold glass ball dangled
Turning reflected rainbows in the rays of the sun.
Like the pale circle moon poised low at night.
Echoes the sun, a nimbus counterfeit
Enticing baubles both, call the hand and
Tip-toe stand to touch a spherical mirror.
Suspended out of grasp. The votive ring
Revolves to evoke a hypnotic state.
Brush the ice cold token sphere. Before your
Eyes find shattered shards acutely pressed into
Your skin while desolated ragged rocks
Penetrate the promise. Swallow ground glass.
Meander 2 _ Filling out papers. - This has been my lot since my husband died a month ago and I'm till not finished. Am waiting for papers from the state of New York. All has been reported there and I even have a file number but they said sending the papers takes six to eight weeks and until they are filled out, there will be none of the pension I'm entitled to have. I'm sitting with papers from the bank. I haven't signed them. Can't until I have word from the state of New York. What I find is interesting, the federal government has already sent me the news I'll be receiving part of my husband's social security. You would think they would take longer than the state to get the papers out. Actually, all I had to do was make a phone call and answer questions and all was in order.
Meander 3 - Writing is back in swing. Have been working on the plot draft and have at least one chapter done. I will finish. But unless I can find a mss that's easily done, I'll have to write Jude and pull one of two mss that are due in the fall.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWAuthor #BWLAuthor #Poem #Cake #Writing
Meander 1 Poem -- Untitled
Butterfly kite high,
Spies fir tree spears,tugs winding
Ties, dips to touch spring
I you guide with knotted chains
My rough grasped rope struggles in your hold. Bend
As you husband me with elastic cords
And thinning strings cut tight into your hands.
Whisper threads snap and I am free to fly.
You dangle vanished ties and wonder why,
Swoop in eagle dance,
Find new currents. Ride the wind.
Butterfly kite high.
Meander 2 - Cake - I found a recipe for a cake not using flour and set out to find the ingredients. Since I don't like orange flavored things, I found I could substitue another citrus fruit. I chose limes. Then the recipe called for almond flour. There was none at the grocery store. I found coconut and apple flout. I chose the coconut and decided to go from there. Then an orange liquor but I decided to substitute either rum or vodka and add some limeade to the liquor. Soon I will bake this substitute cake and wonder how it will taste.
Meander 3 - Writing - Am almost back on trace for the new book. I'll be starting the plot draft soon and finish typing in the Rough draft. Am liking the way the story is going but I need to work on the time line when doing the Plot draft. Need to invent a time line and stick to it.

Meander 1 -- Poem Gift From A Husband Post Divorce
The bus depot was dim and Dark, The gift
You sent had just arrived. The gnomish man
With rasp edged voice pointed and made me lift
And lug it to my car. My hands began
To wrestle with the sealing tape and tear
My fingernails. Soon the tape was overthrown
To reveal a giant set of kitchenware
Enough to feed a regiment. I live alone.
Am I in your fantasy chained to stove and
Sink as I never was before? Do you
See me spoon in hand, flashing wedding band,
Stirring giant pots of bubbling stew?
What amde you choose the gift I wanted least.
In honor of the end of our wedding feast?
Meander 2 - Papers, Papers, Papers. --I've been filling out paper after paper since my husband's death. Amazing the number of places that want papers and information. I will say this Social Security is very efficient and has already returned the letter saying how much I will recieve. The state of New York is very different. A phone interview ended with expect papers to fill out and sign arriving in 6 to 8 weeks. There will be no money set until this is complete. The Keogh plan takes less time than all this but of course there is paper work here. Now mI must start with the health insurance tomorrow. If my hair wasn't already gray it would be nwo.
Meander 3 - Writing __ Writing is going slow. Not only does all this paperwork keep me from writing, my hand aches if I use it too much. I'm managing a page a day, so all is not lost.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWAuthor #BWLAuthor #Poem #Spring #Writing
Meander 1 Poem -- Spring Signs --
Dandilions and robins, crocuses and lambs.
Young horse in the meadow kicking up his heels.
Runners on Broadway with long-legged strides
Leap over pothoses, tip slanted sidewalks
Choosing a track that is close to a mile.
Breathing in spring and feeling the air slap
On their faces to stimulate sap rise.
Joggers like horses trotting their mileage.
One mile today, another tomorrow.
The mare in sweatshirt pulled up lame.
She hobbled homeward, a grin on her face
In her thoughts - They shoot joggers, don't they.
Meander 2 - These days life seems to be filled with waiting and waiting. Sometimes I'm not sure what I wait for. The past week it's been in the ER waiting for a room for my husband. Before that it was waiting for news of his condition. Each time he has a new problem and he sinks, he manages to rally. He's also waiting and I'm not sure for what.
Meander 3 - Writing- I should finish the rough draft of Tangled Dreams this week. There's a lot not in the draft but that's the way I write. Then it will be onto the plot draft. That one is a biggie and I'll have to set the time line and see if all works. That will be fun and sometimes hard. But i'll manage and then move on to other drafts. If only I could get the typing done on the already written ones.

Meander 1 Poem - Broken Promises --
A pale glittering glass bowl dangles
Turning, reflecting rainbows in the rays from the sun.
Like the pale circle moon poised low at night.
Echoes the sun, a nimbus counterfeit.
Enticing bubbles both, call the hand
And tip-toe stand to touch a spherical mirage
Suspended out of grasp. The votive ring
Revolves to evoke a hypnotic state.
Brush the ice cold token sphere. Before your
Eyes find shattered shards acutely pressed into
While desolated ragged rocks
Penetrate the promise. Swallow shattered glass.
Meander 2 The World - I'm not really one who comments much on politics but lately events have made me angry. The amount of hatred fomenting in the air bothers me. I see such intolerance for others and how to change this seems impossible, especially when many of our leaders are those reving the hate and the distance of one person from another. Let's hope matters will change without more war, murders and intolerances.
Meander 3 Writing. Rough Draft is progressing. So far I haven't hit much of a snag. There is a lot to fix when I finish the rough draft. My characters seem to be existing in a vacuum or one that's barely shown clearly. That will come in time.

Meander 1 Poem - Untitled since I couldn't come up with one
Butterfly kite high
Spies fir tree spears, tugs winding
Lines pulls to touch spring.
Puppet kite I you guide with knotted strings.
Mt rough grasped rope holds you in struggle. Bends
As I husband you with elastic cords
And thinning strings cut tight into my hands.
Whisper strings snap and you are free to go.
I dangle vanished ties and wonder why.
Swoop in eagle dance.
Find new currents. Ride the wind
Butterfly kite high.
Meander 2 - Decisions - This past week I've had to make decisions I didn't want to make. I had to use my Power of Attorney and my Health Initiative my husband gave me three years ago. Hopefully I've made the right decision. He is feeling some better today but he's still not well. All I can do is hope.
Meander 3 - Writing - Moving along with the rough draft of the newest story Tangled Dreams. I must get the CAF done and off to Jude in the coming week. I believe I know enough about the characters to do this.

Meander 1 -- Poem -- First Meeting --
You reached to me. Laughter coated you like
The surface os earth on a mountain slope.
I saw your earth skin shroud crack and forth
And from your depths an avalanche of loneliness,
A rolling wave of rocks and stones rushing
Rock over rock down tumbling toward me.
Thus brutal crushing, crueling thread, steady
Surge of loneliness pins me poised. Alarmed
And terrified, I curl myself upon
Myself, protective womb retreat. My hands
About myself in tight embrace, I hide.
Between us rings a haunting why. This pain
and loneliness is part of us. Never
A touch to still our fear but we cry as
Rocks and stones and sheets of earth reverberate
From our curl closed bodies coiled embrace.
Meander 2 - Not a Great Christmas in Part - My husband was to come home from the nursign home on Christmas Eve. Instead he ended in the hospital CCU with difficulty breathing, low blood pressure and a urinary infection. Instead of a festive meal, I had to cook the turkey since it had defrosted. For a short time the grandchildren popped in and that was fun but the sadness lingered then. My son and I ate a bit of the meal together, visited the hospital. Let's hope he can at least go to the nursing home soon.
Meander 3 - Writing - Am working on the new book but not as rapidly as I hoped. This is the rough draft and it's all over the place. Once all this is down, I'll be able to go back and start turning it into a book and hopefully a great story.

Meander 1 -- Poem -- Hazards --
I'm not looking for Prince Charming.
He's dangerous to my health.
Love strikes with viral suddenness
And grips you in the gut.
There's lassitude when he's gone
Plus loss of appetite.
Fever by night and chills by day.
The price is very high.
Another big discovery
Is when you find the prince
You kiss him and he changes fast
Into a slimy frog.
Who wants to be responsible
For metamorphosis.
From prince to frog or frog to prince
I'll let him change himself.
Meander 2 Christmas -- On Wednesday Christmas will come again. This time the day will be a quiet one. Just three of us. The Nanuet grandchildren will visit but they won't be having dinner with us. In a way that means I don't have to cook as much but i do enjoy having a full table. The Florida grandchildren will call and we;ll talk to them. Ashley is headed south. he's had a hefty schedule with school this semester. One daughter and husband will appear after Christmas so that will be nice. The other daughter and husband will come then, too. Be good to see them all. So though quiet, the day will be good.
Meander 3 Writing _ The rough draft is progressing slowly but it is progressing with all that comes at this time of the year. Am blocking in the third chapter with nine to go. I'm falling in love with the characters, Janine and Nate and Davy. Still this book will be ahrd to write on an emotional level.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWAuthor #BWLAuthor #Needlepoint - Poem #Writing
Meander 1 -- Poem -- Needlepoint --
We used to sit in the bar's dark corner
Embroidered plots and foolish schemes. Stitched bright
Pictures in life-tone tints. Exuberant points
Of laughter sewed on canvas, plans for change
Our chosen yearn harmonized in growing
Patterns on the tapestry we held.
Again in the bar, conspirators sit. One sews
In colors vibrant and new. The other
draws yarn faded and grayed. You sit apart.
We gather close. Our laughter sends needles
Of bright colored thread to fill our canvas.
Impossible dreams we stitch as we plot.
From your eyes jab sliver glares like silver
Needles that stitch needlepoint. Draw muted
Strands of gray tinted yarn where bright colors
Once formed growth tapestries. Madam Defarge
Grown old with her eyes on the guillotine..
She watches heads roll, her canvas unchanged.
Meander 2 - Christmas stockings -- I'm in the process of filling stockings for children and grandchildren. I really enjoy doing this but this year I'm rather slow. Having their father and grandfather in the hospital and now rehab makes concentration on the coming holiday difficult. At least we now know he'll come home on Christmas Eve and all will be well again, I hope. So stockings will be filled, cookies bakes and the tree up and trimmed.
Meander 3 -- Writing - Have one chapter of the new story blocked out. There are eleven more to see to but that will come in time. So far it's going well but I'm sure by the time I have the entire book rough drafted I'll find a lot of blanks to fill in.

Meander 2 - Post Divorce Gift
The bus depot was dim and dark. The gift
The gift you sent had just arrived. The gnomish man
With rasp edged voice pointed and made me lift
And lug it to the car. My hands began
To wrestle with the sealing tape and tear
My fingernails. Soon the tape was overthrown
To reveal a giant set of cooking ware,
Enough to feed a regiment. I live alone.
Am I in your fantasy chained to stope and
Sink as I was before. Do you
See me, spoon in hand, flashing wedding band
Stirring goant pots filled iwth bubbling sted?
What made you choose the gift I wanted least
In honor of the ending of our wedding feast?
Meander 2 - Nursing Home - My husband has now gone to a nursing home. They call it Rehab but I'm not sure that will happen. He is weak and his heart continues to act up. Now he occasionally needs oxygen and had to dropout of physical therapy yesterday. Will he be home in time for Christmas? I'm really not sure. I'm able to face the end but I have children and grandchildren who may not feel the same.
Meander 3 - Writing - I've sort of begun a new story. Actually I had the first chapter blocked out and decided I needed to begin again and just mock up the chapters so I can see where the story is going. It's a romance, contemporaty, one of the Moon Child series with Cancer and Virgo pairing up. There's some trickiness in the story since there is a child, hers and his adopted son who is ill. This may be a hard one but I'll manage to get through this and hopefully it will help.

Meander 1 - Poem -- Sleeping Beauty --
Beautu sleeps, her woman's form perfection.
Thoughts slumber in a fog of fantasy.
Opium wisps of smoke keep ehr in a dream.
Her breaths perfumed by vapors of romance.
Soft silken threads spin a web and hold
Her entranced with staring vacant eyes, fast
In the enchanted land of fairy tales.
Dark night of knowledge kisses her. Beauty
Wakes into a landscape stark and dreary
Whirlwinds whip her dreams to tatters. Send them
Away. Stench-filled clouds fill her nostrils
Virile voices stab at her. Rasp her with
Razor edges. Slash her from her days of
Into a state of wakeful watching
Vaporized illusions, vanished fantasies.
What now Beauty? Where do you go?
Meander 2 - Hospitals - My husband is in the hospital, one where I once worked. The place has grown and is a confusing mess. Trying to find him has been a challenge but I've finally mastered the steps. Much different from when I worked here. Even the nurses; station has changed. Real problem is the long wait between hearing what is going ot happen and when he is coming hope. Now I'm waiting for a call. Hope it arrives soon.
Meander 3 - Writing - The Lines of Fire Challenged has been sent off to the editor. I did finish it before the month ended and one of these days it will go live. I've begun on the next one - I think I've called it Tattered Dreams. The heroine is the nanny from one of the other books and the hero a lawyer from several. His wife died leavign him with a sson to raise, the son is the birht child of the heroine. She gave him up for adoption. Mainly because shehad no one to help her, no family and few friends. she was in college. This could be a fun book to write.

Meandering on Monday wit Janet Lane Walters #MFRWAUthor #BWLAuthor #Poem #Cancer Woman #Loyalty
Meander 1 - Poem -- Cancer Woman --
I am the raging sea
Silent crab-like digging from within
Eating pits beneath the shore
Grinding rocks to sand.
Destroying, changing, enshelled.
I am the calm sea
Glassy surface reflecting sun
Underneath rip currents flow
and hurricane
The silent lurking undertow.
I am the life sea
Nurturing love and blood flow times
An amniotic womb
Nourishing frends and breeding
Contractions of birth.
Meander 2 - We've heard a lot lately about loyalty. I wonder what it means to you and to me. Does it mean the only loyal people are those who say exactly what we want them to say. Are those that cover up misdeeds because they're loyal. I don't think so. I do believe loyal people would also tell when their friend or relative is totally out of line and help them change, To me loyalty doesn't mean keeping quiet when a friend is doing wrong.
Meander 3 Writing. Two chapters to go and then I'll get to the final read through and make a few changes in the story. Then it will be off to the editor and I will shout for joy.

Meander 1 ==Poem -- Taps --
Your echo footsteps cast a spell.
My dreams are faded mists today.
Soft murmuring trumpets sound the knell.
Once I lost my heart's sentinel.
I whispered call I ran to obey.
Your echo footsteps cast a spell
Your golden laughter pierced my cell,
Chased ancient shadows far away.
Soft murmuring trumpets sound the knell.
I felt dark thoughts of gloom dispel
No longer morbid memories prey.
Your echo footsteps cast a spell.
Nights of silver love, singing bells.
Gather flower days in sweet bouquet.
Soft murmuring trumpets sound the knell.
The moment flees. I can't rebel.
I hide my tears. I can't inveigh
Your echo footsteps cast a spell
Soft murmuring trumpets sound the knell.
Meander 2 - News - I used to hit the news stations when there were commercials during the programs I watched. Seldom happens these days. The news isn't good. Things are happening that the average person can't do much about. Betrayal, lies, and other things not needed. Sure wish something would change soon.
Meander 3 - Writing. Have four chapters ready for the final read through and just over a month to finish the other eight. Sure hope I make the deadline. I've decided though I want to write three books next year, I won't commit to dates. When that happens as it has this year is that I must finish each project in a rush. Hopefully Jude will allow me to tell her there will be three and I will let her know when each one is dong and she can then fit them when there's a hole in the schedule.

Meander 1 Poem -- Call the Kids for Dinner, Dear --
Summer sidewalks shimmer heat.
The men come home from the mills,
Black lunchboxes,thermoses rattle
Against the empty sides.
Dinner's cooking, smells in the air,
Cabbage, spaghetti, meatloaf, potatoes.
Call the kids for dinner, dear.
My father, bald, hawked beaked,
Walks to the wooden porch,
T-shirt, scooped neck,
Pittsburgh gray
Beats his chest in Tarzan cry,
Calling his kids for dinner.
Why does he have to yortle so?
Flushed, red and not from the sun,
I sneak, slink to the backyard door
So no one knows he's my old man.
Meander 2 - Knees - Last week I took a spill and managed to hit my knee of the concrete. There's a brushburn that hurts but is healing. The real problem is my study is on the second floor. My ailing husband and the kitchen are on the first floor. This means every time I need something found, I must go down the seventeen steps. This is not quickly done. Someone asked why I didn't move to the first floor for the time being. Two reasons. Moving the computer and printer will take too much work. Also I couldn't work to the strains of CNN and all the rotten news occurring. At least now I can go up stairs in a more normal wal. Still slow but i figure another week and I'll forget the joys of being a klutz.
Meander 3 - Writing - Am now starting to type the last written draft and after this there will be only one more and that is an editing draft. Then the story will be done. Then I'll start another. Writers live on a circular path.

Meander 1 Poem -- Book Jacket --
I face you and i smile
Naked, surrounded by air.
A gleam of mischief lights my eyes.
Glasses slightly askew.
And while you see my flesh
Exposed.
My inner core is hidden under words.
It's you must puzzle meanings.
In my hand a corncob pipe.
It lends an air of dignity.
The sweater, holes in sleeves tied round my neck.
Should have leather patches.
But I can't sew.
Meander 2 - Klutz - I fell today because I wasn't paying attention. This had to happen at the mall where people could see me. At least they helped my to my feet. I assured them I was all right. And I was but I must stop thinking about what I'm going to do next and realize there's a curb and not the pavement.
Meander 3 - Writing - I have started the last written draft of the book. They it will be a matter of proffing. Of course that's a way to go since there are probably a hundred or more pages to write. Twenty minutes to a page so I should finish by the deadline. I've made a bargain with myself. I intend to write three books next eyar but I'll tell my publisher and friend that I will write them and when each one is dong I'll let her know and she can fit me into the story. There are too many things happening in life to be on constant deadlines.

Meander 1 Poem - Harbinger --
She comes into the room
A nurse -- white uniform
fadin smile on tightened lips.
A sideways glance
Perhaps in measurement
Of how you'd fit a coffin.
Her fingers, brightened tips,
Talons,
Bloodied with red bright polish.
Her floral scent invades the room,
An entire garden comes with her
To test your lungs.
Painted mast, her face,
Fluttering eyelashes
Flick her glance on everything but you.
Cousin of Florence Nightengale
Perhaps
Bur surely daughter to Sairy Gamp.
Meander 2 - Preparing for a Class - I'll be teaching a class on line for writing next month and I've finally started to get things in order for that. The first lesson is nearly planned but I must get cracking so I don't end up doing this last minute. Would like to have at least three done before I start but would like to have all done. We will see.
Meander 3 - Writing- Am beyond the halfway point of the sceond or Plot draft of the book. Won't finish it before the months ends but soon afterwards. Then it's time to sit back and mark places where I need to hype up the setting material and also to make sure the characters are reacting on an emotional level. Then it will be on to the last write and the final revision. Hopefully by the beginning of November I'll have it ready to go. The pub date is December.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Poem #Writing #Corn Silk #Politicians
Meander 1 Poem -- The Soul Suckers --
She sucks souls
So does he
Seeking those who need attention
Those who call to them.
Sidling dance of courtship
Circle around the flame
Reaching with adhesive hands
Attaching them with skill.
Feeding flattery, false face love
Th the receptive participant.
Petting with abandon
Grasping, squeezing, pushing hard
In rhythms pulsing throbs
Stroking with sheer passion
Endearments coming fast.
Sucking hard to empty
'Til the soul is dry and flat.
Quick discarded into the trash
And reach now for another.
She sucks souls.
So does he.
Meander 2 - Which is worse - Corn silk or Politicians -- I'm faced with a dilemma. It's corn on the cob season. It's also politician season. Corn silk clings and gets into the food and onto your clothes. Politicians come to the door and ask for votes. They don't want to leave just like corn silk. They adhere just like the corn silk. Not sure which is worse but I wish them both away.
Meander 2 Writing - Am now into the Plot draft of The Lines of Fire Challenged. This is the one that's fun but does take time. Since in the rough draft I would at the end of the story, this draft means the little changes that have occurred during the writing of the story must be amde to make sense. I know so much more about the journey now I've reached the end. Now to make the beginning point to the end.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWAuthor #BWLPublishing #Poem #Writing #Anger
Meander 1 - Poem -- Sunlight --
Dappled raysof sunlight
Fill my little room.
Bringing cheer and brightness
To light the daily gloom.
Meander 2 - Anger -- Twice in one day. Two mass murders. Two bits of terrorism. What do we do. Nothing and that makes me angry. I really can't express what this does to the people around me. Something has to break but those in charge express pity and prayers. Will there never be any action?
Unfortunately I very much anything will change.
Meander 3 - Writing - The quest to finish the rough draft continues. Five chapters to block in and then I can see what will turn these pages into a book. There are side trips I may need to expand or to cut. There are settings to bring into the story. There are characters to vitalize before the story becomes a book

Meander 1 -- Poem -- Spring
Green grass sprouts
Through brown earth
Fertility again
The earth blossoms
Meander 2 Book Signing Part Two - Yesterday the book signing at the Barking Goose went well. John had a number of guests arrive so there was an audience for the reading. There were sales and that was nice. For me the most interesting was I had a friend in the audience. She had once come to Hudson Valley for the Saturday meetings. I really liked that she had purchased a copy of Words Perfect years ago and that she uses it when writing. She has even underlined parts of the book. More than sales, this really raised my spirits. She also follows my blog. I really appreciate this. Also has someone say she was going to listen to the audio of Murder and Mint Tea. Also someone likes fantasy and hopefully will look up some of mine.
Meander 3 -- Writing. Am roughing in Chapter 4 of the Lines of Fire bit. Must let Jude know I'll have to write a new CAF. Part till be all right but the title different and the blurb also. This is the problem with writing a CAf months and months before the book is more than an idea..

Meander 1 Book Signing -- I'll be at the Barking Goose in Newburg, NY on Saturday July 20th from 1 - 5 PM signing books with several of my Hudson Valley RWA friends. Don't you just love the name of the venue. Reminds me of things I've read about people keeping geese as a first line of defense to guard their houses. Address: 16 N Plank Rd, Newburgh, NY 12550
Meander 2 Poem Open Windows
Some friends are like open windows.
They let you fly right in.
They make you feel at home
Even when you part.
They're open when you come again.
Meander 3 - Writing. Forgotten Dreams sent off to the editor. Am now working on Lines of Fire Challenged. This is the second book of the Defender's Hall trilogy. It's going fairly well but this time I'm feeling as I go. The story is unfolding slowly but the hro and heroine Jens and Lasara promise to be interesting characters. Always enjoy watching a story unfold and the villain is from a prior book and this time the characters will get to see the final villain but not really interact with him. That will be for the third story.
Book signings/Readings with Hudson Valley Romance Writers Association
Come to meet members of the HVRWA as they sign and read from their books! So many different romance genres will be represented from historical to mystery and more! There will be something for every romance fan!
Some friends are like open windows.
