Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters with Reading, Writing and Thoughts #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Reading #Writing #Blogs

Meander 1 - Reading - Read some good books this week starting with Stacy Abram's new one While Jutice Sleeps= What a great book and an intriguing read. Couldn't put it down and it ruined my sleep that night. Book is powerful and many layered. Congrats. Also read two by Carly Phillips Simply Sinful and SimplySxabdulous. Both were quick and satsifying reads.I began reading some old favorites recently put on my Kindle. They're by Katherine Kurtz and are among paper books on my shelves. More about them next week.

Meander 2 - Thoughts - About Blogs. I have one I put posts on every day. On Fridays and Saturdays I feature other authors. Most of the time, they respond well before they are due and I'm able topost them on Saturdays which are my blog day wor working on the coming week. My last two ahve disappointed me in tha I've had to remind them. One finished and sent hers immediately. I'm still waiting for the second one to appear in my inbox. I hate not having the blog scheduled a week ahead. Now there is another thing I've noticed and that'show few of the people who are featured do any promotion. Some do and when that happens, there are more views and often comments. Many of the people who are featured don't even post a thank you. When I guest on another blog, I post the news on Facebook and Twitter. And I visit to see if there are comments and often post a reply. To me doing these things is common courtesy.

Meander 3 - Writing - I have begun the draft that's a writing one and a try to fill in the details and make the setting and plot make total sense and hang together. The rough draft is often sparce and some scenes are either a summary or a Scene to be written later note. I enjoy this draft and usually doubles the length of the rough draft. I will see what happens this time.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poetry #New Release #Writing

Meander 1 - Poem - Growing Love

Growing love that covers all.
Men and women are my kin.
Cannot reach them all in holding
But i can touch a few.
Hoping that as rippling waves
Love will spread over all.

Meander 2 - New Release - The Cancer Capricorn Connection is life. Enjoyed writing this book and will enjoy watching the book sell. The characters have a touch of me and the touch of another, once a friend but no longer. They face problems since he rode away on his motorcycle before he learns he is to be a father. Years later they end up at the same hospital where she's a nurse and he's a doctor. She must learn to trust him and he must convince her he still loves her.

Meander 3 - Writing. Am typing the last few pages of Past Betrayals, Past Loves a reincarnation novel. Will soon have it ready to send to BWL. Then I'll be doing tidying chores and also revising ten books to send to BWL. What fun that will be. Some will have to be brought up to date. I must order paper and ink cartridges so the work can continue.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poetry #writing

Meander 1 - Poem _Tiger Cat 2

I see him - cat- tiger striped
I think of what his ancestors were,
Large, stalking beasts with saber teeth,
Dwellers in caves.
I wonder if he dreams of them
While sleeping in the sun.

Meander 2 - No car today - Thank heavens on monday the other car will be ready. Bothers me why people who back into a car where there are no parking lines in front of the car, find a way to smash into the car. The took off and left a bit of a mess and the car needed a new bumper and the hood pounded out. The insurance company was great, the police not so great. They didn't investigate or call when they promised to do so.

Writing - Am finishing the final draft of The Cancer Capricorn Connection and then will have to type in all the changes. Then I'll finish typing in Past Betrayals, Past Loves. Then no writing fun for awhile but I will be outlining the next who knows how many books since there are 33 books to update for my publisher. Sounds like fin but won't take more than two weeks.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters

 Meander 1 - Poem - Friendship

They had a special kind of friendship.
A drawing close in harmony,
A meeting of two kindred spirits,
A reading of each other's minds,
A union of heir secret souls.
Together they are more than one..

They joined together becoming.
Their love repressed into a friendship,
Yet each retained their ownness souls
Drawing close in harmony.
How alike are their minds
And singing are their spirits.

Meander 2 - Busy days. These days I've been busy running from home to the nursing home, bringing clean clothes, taking dirty ones home. Many other things are sort of neglected but these visits are a must. Perhaps when the days of winter end, life will change.

Meander 3 - Am nearly finished with the last heavy writing draft of The Cancer-Capricorn Connection and perhaps by the time this month is ended I will be able to send it off. Or at least before the middle of next month.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #poem #writing

Meander 1 - Poem - Little Child

Little child, you stay up late.
You wonder why I scream and yell.
Why don't I leave you to your fate.
Because in the morning the alarm will bell.

Meander 2 - Christmas Stockings - Every year I do stockings for the family. There are many to fill. Every year I say I'll buy things all year and make things easier. Unfortunately I forget and end up running around like a nut trying to find small, inexpensive, useful and fun items for the stockings. This year I've found some really odd things. What about plastic storage bags that don't lay flat but stand like jars. I found that to be most clever. There are some neat paper clips I found, too. Other things are more ordinary but still fun. Like a bit of candy for each person and gift cards for underwear, and stuff for lips. This year I found some even the boys will use. Seven are completed and ready to mail to far off states. That leaves nine more to go. Once the others are mailed, I'll start on those. Then I can get on with other Christmas preparations.

Meander 3 - Writing. Working on three projects. Coming near the end of a draft of The Cancer Capricorn Connection. Am half way through Past Betrayals, Past Loves and am nearly finished with combining two of the Seduction Series so they can come out in paper and be sold as duets. Sometimes my head swims but I'll manage through this. It's colder weather and I work better then.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poetry

Meander 1 - Poem - Melody

A melody should be sweet and ripe,
Designed to catch and entice,
Flowing from note to note in evenness,
Heady as a breath of spice
Used in cooking a gourmet's delight.
A melody should be breathless
As a fist upon the land.
It should soar in time
As a rocket lifts from earth,
Seems to pause,
Then onward goes in a trail of flame
To reach a fabled world.
A melody should contain
The elements of life,
The singing of our souls in time.
A melody should sing and be.

Meander 2 - A week of trying to organize myself. The past week has been one of planning for what's coming soon - Thanksgiving and Christmas. Knowing I will send stockings off to the children and grandchildren in Florida sent me shopping. I don't like to  shop but if I must I will. Hopefully there's not too much to buy for the Florida ones but then I must also think of those at home and closer than Florida. So little of the other things I wanted to do got done.

Writing - Still working on the Cancer Capricorn Connection and on Past Betrayals. Also reformatting another story and hope to have it ready to send out by Monday. I'm just slogging along.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #amwriting #poetry

Meander 1 Poem - Soul
Hidden in grubby darkness
The larva of a person
Wrapped by layers of our learning
It struggles to be free.
Slowly inching through the murk
Its wings spread toward the light.
Soul - Psyche - Butterfly.

Meander 2 - The chapter meeting. Always good to see friends and fellow writers. This week there were 10 of us and talked about the coming contest run by our chapter. Had seventy plus submissions. I do enjoy reading them and doing the scoring. Talked about not being mean and being encouraging.  Also discussed several other things. I must remember for the December meeting to make the brownies Steph liked so much. Two people read. My critiques were on point, I think but very short. Hopefully they helped the writers.

Meader 3 - Still working on The Cancer Capricorn Connection. Am just about finished with the second of four drafts and then it will be on to the revisions. Not tired of the story yet so that's good. When I grow tired of a story I know it's time to send the thing out.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poetry #Writing

Meander 1 - Poem - A Day In the Life Of A Housewife

Sixthirty and a jarring ring
Disruption breaks a fancied dream.
The day begins with squeals and yells.
With hurried bustling breakfast time.
Then quiet descends on the house
As off to work and school they go.
She is alone to fantasize
A million worlds and more
As she goes about the daily chores
Of dreary repetition.
Washing, ironing, make the beds.
Vacuum, dust, scrub and rub.
The day wears on and out and in
With telephone calls and errands short.
The quiet broken when school is done,
Abd the same messes occur again.
Dinner's over 0 The kids in bed
The day is done and sos is she.
She goes to bed to dream once more
To wait and repeat and repeat and recur.

Meander 2 - Promoting - Not sure how other authors feel about promoting but most of the time I feel this is taking me away from what I want to do. One problem is how does one know how effective this is, especially when many of the sites change their algorithms almost weekly. But one must do it unless they're one of those lucky writers who everyone wants everything they write even if it's not their best work.  I don't mind going on other people's blogs and doing an interview. so there is that. But what one must do they sit down and do.

Meander 2 - Writing - Progressing with the Cancer-Capricorn Connection. Seems to be moving well and the good thing is I'm not sick of it yet. That's good because there are many many words still to write to make this a full story.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poem #amwriting

Meander 1 - Poem - Cloud Picnic

We ate above the world.
We three.
You bored.
She lonely.
And I looking for seclusion from the problems of my friends.
A misting rain began to fall
Before we reached out site.
And as we sat the cloudsSurrounded the car and us.
The world outside vanished.
We became part of the cloud.
The station windows open.
The clouds accepted our invitation.
They drifted in to touch us with crisp kisses
Of cool and stinging drops of water,
They misted on my body
And brought forgetfulness.
Light and lilting kisses
Caresses, cool and crisp.

Meander 2 - Memories - sometimes the poems I wrote in the past evoke memories from years ago. Memories of two close friends who have vanished in the mist. Memories of other times when I seemed to be a different person. But memories are often forgotten as one moves on with the life they've chosen to live.

Meander 3 -  Writing - Am nearing the end of the plot draft of the Cancer Capricorn Connection and will soon be ready to move into the Setting Draft. Hopefully that will end the need for complete re-writes of the story and for the Character and Revision drafts all I'll have to do is scribble all over the printed pages. and key the corrections in. Though I feel the last three chapters will need a third re-write. Not feeling yet that I must finish this book at once so that is good. It's been a long time since I've had a new book on the shelves.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #poetry #hurricanes #writing

Meander 1 - Poem - The Barker

The Barker shouts
Come in, come in.
What will you have
Some love
Perhaps some sympathy
I'll try to find it for you
In the sideshow tent
And empathy comes in streams.
Barker keeps on screaming
What do you want>
I feel your pain.
And frenzied hands
Keep reaching
Taking little bits.
The barker gives until I die
And never, never gets.

Meander 2 _ Hurricanes - There is a hurricane coming, That was a few days ago. I have children in both of the areas where the storm is predicted to arrive. One child and her family decides to stick things out. Fortunately the hurricane missed them. Oh, there was rain and some winds but nothing like other places have. The other child left and found a safe place to stay. So all the worry I had was nothing. But worrying is what a mother does.

Meander 3 - Writing - Am really working on the Cancer Capricorn Connection. This draft always takes longer than any other. Rough drafts take maybe a day or a little longer for each chapter. Now it's the plot draft and holes need to be plugged, radical changes made since things changed when I went from the beginning to the end. The other drafts will be easier - I hope. That's what a writer does besides putting the words on paper, they also hope this story will be better than the last.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poem #writing

Meander 1 - Poem - Hermit Dreams

Somewhere there is a house,
Away from people's voices.
A cabin on a mountaintop,
A lighthouse by the sea,
A place for me where no one comes
Where I can be alone
And listen to myself.
Either a crashing waterfall
Or the surging of the sea
Will sing to me as I dream.
I thought to run to madness,
But never in that state.
Would I be left alone.
They would hound me with  black inkspots.
Word association and therapy
I couldn't escape -- from people
And be alone in insanity.

Meander 2 - Friends - I've finished a book a friend started and was unable to complete before she died. This was for me a labor of love. Though I was offered a chance to share the proceeds of the books, I said no. If anything put a little bit in there in acknowledgements or the dedication. I know people think I'm crazy when I say I channeled when I wrote the book but I also heard her say no when members of the critique group made suggestions she wouldn't have liked. Hopefully the book will see the light of day soon and the cover will be completed. So I've sent the book off and said farewell to my friend.

Meander 3 - Writing - Going great guns on the new story and am on the plot draft filling in all those holes. Hundreds of them but they're being plugged by new words and scenes are no longer single lines. This is good. Also typing of the massive mss is continuing and reformatting of another one is coming along. Soon these will bed dome, too,

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poem #writing

Meander 1 - Poem - Dead End Street

One way traffic...dead end street.
Stop sigh at the corner.
Don't go in there. There's no way out.
Marie doesn't see the sigh.
Drives ahead...slowly crawls.
The wall at the end is a solid mass.
The wheels spin.
The engine roars.
Fenders bump the wall.
No way front. No way back.
Stay.

Meander 2 - Fall has come and this is my favorite part of the year. I love the thoughts of harvest and the cooler days. The brilliance of leaves on the trees always makes me smile. The tree in out yard becomes almost garnet in color. Sort of red and sort of purple.  The fall is a good contrast to the spring colors of all white flowers against the bright green leaves. Fall also means Halloween and children out with their costumes. I so enjoy watching them and handing out treats. Fall also means Thanksgiving with the feasts one should not over eat but does. Fall brings other more serious things. Elections and this one is a dilly. I'll not mention anything about the candidates and why I think they run. Fall also brings Veterans' Day when we think about those we have lost. Though there are moments of sadness during fall, I still feel lifted by the change from the heat of summer.

Meander 3 - Writing. I'm beginning to feel good about the new story as I'm workking on the plot draft. This means tightening and ridding the story of those dreadful plot holes. Like a death in chapter 1 and a live appearance in chapter 9. This character isn't needed for other than a mention. She's gone and will stay gone. I'm still typing in and editing Past Betrayals as I go along. I've almost finished segment three and there will only be five to go. Also reformatting stories for BWL and groaning when I find mistakes that should have been picked up in the proofing. Someone said no story is ever released perfect. I think I believe them.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #poetry "Writing

Meander 1 - Poem - Tide Pool

The sea feels trapped
Pulled, pushed
Shoved against the shore
Rocks, earth and sand
Snatched back the other way.
Moon pulls the puppet strings
Directs an aimless dance.
Tides of emotions
Waves of fury spent
Nestling  in a tide pool
To find a brief respite
Before the moon tugs wires.

Meander 2 - Meetings - Today HVRWA chapter met and listened to one of our members practice the session she's going to do at the NJ conference. Lots of information and lots of suggestions. Giving one of these is hard and I'm wishing she will do well. I'm sure she will. Rest of the meeting went well and did some critiquing. Hopefully sent both of the writers on the right track.

Meander 3 - Writing - I'm reformatting stories for my publisher and this is a tedious job, especially since I want to make sure there are no mistakes. One of the stories had been edited I don't know how many times but I came across one that made me shake my head. Not picked up by the spell check. She gelt bad instead of she felt bad. Am progressing with the next of my Opposites book and so far, so good.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #poem #amwriting #reading

Meander 1 - Opem - Haiku

Jet hued lava crabs
Ebony slag floes barren
Creeping black on black

Meander 2 - Reading. I've begun downloading books I really want to keep onto my kindle. I've been reading Andre Norton's Witch World and am enjoying them once again. What a great writer and the stories have kept me captivated for several weeks, though I had to take a time out to look at books for a contest. These stories are very different from the contemporary books I'm writing but they do offer a bit of study toward expanding my imagination.

Meander 3 - Finally working on the Cancer-Capricorn Connection and am finding much to expand on what is the rough draft. I have plotted out the next book in that series and there is just one more to go and I will be finished with those. Am also re-reading two of my stories to check for errors and get them back to my publisher in the new format. Always too much to do.

Meandering On Monday With Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poem #writing #life

Meander 1 Poem - Dodge-em Cars

He chooses a car, red, electrified
That gives an illusion of speed.
He waits for the power to surge.
And tapping his hands on the wheel
He waits for the power to surge.
Now he twists and turns
Through the pack that is trying
To bump and spin him around.
That's not for him.
To him it's a skill
To dodge. To esdape from the trap.
To avoid the jam-ups, the clutter of cars.
To come inches close
But to miss the smash/crash
To wing free and escape quite unscathed.

Meander 2 - When life puts a stop what do you do? Today this happened to me and my morning when I would have managed to do all my posts for the week my computer needed a check-up. I hate when that happens and try to avoid this every moment I can but today I couldn't. I did do some writing and reading, most impatiently. So this afternoon and evening I have to make headway on the things I need to do.

Meander 3 - Writing - Just tore up the plans for a new book and began over. Having all the complications come at the end of the story wasn't a good idea. I had a plan for ten chapters. Now I have one for eight. I also learned about checking my books for errors, a lot of them and putting them into a changed format. That will take time but I will have help. Granddaughter will pitch in.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #poem #movie #writing #MerylStreep

Meander 1 - Poem - Merry-Go-Round

Tigers and lions, giraffe and a swan seat
But he picks a horse going up and down
And around and around on the circular track
With bright lights in patterns.
Blinking and blinking
In rhythmical time while
Caliope music vibrates the horse
That he rides ip and down
On a circular staircase,
Moebius strop that seems to go
Somewhere but comes back to meet
Him uping and downing
Arounding and rounding
The lights that are flashing
And mirrors are showing
The brass ring so far from his grasp.

Meander 2 - Florence Foster Jenkins - I'm not really a movie person but I went to see this picture, partly because I remember listening to some of her records one night with another bunch of singers. Funny, poignant and a story to learn from. The acting was superb and the story riveting. This is a movie I highly recommend. From start to finish a great job and all the actors are Academy award worthy. Meryl Streep showed once again what a marvelous actress she is.

Meander 3 - Writing - Have finished the book that I've been working on for months. Not my book but one I've written for a friend. Have returned to my regular writing and will be working on The Cancer Capricorn Connection and begun the planning an the Aquarius Leo Connection. Then more typing on stories and also to put some of the books into the new format for Books We Love.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poetry #writing

Meander 1 - Poem - The Steeplechase

A horse of wood sits on a rod of steel.
He is perches on top.
Leaning forward with his feet
Dangling against his wooden mount.
His horse is number four.
He batters feet against
The wood and painted steed.
Hurry, hurry.
The screaming crowd shouts - yells.
Hurry number four.
Om jockey fashion he lifts his arm
And lashes the wooden horse.
It's number one in front
Then three
And here comes number four.
He takes the lead by pressing hard
But slow the ride runs down.
He ends ahead on a circular track
And pays for another ride.

Meander 2 - The Olympics. I must admit I've been watching off and on. Some of the things are main stream events. Yesterday I watched the fencing. Got so involved a half hour passed before I realized what happened. I used to fence. At least I was taking lessons until a car wreck ended my love of swords and actively pursuing the event. But I must admit while watching I became the fencer and lived dreams for a moment.

Meander 3 - The heat makes the mind slow down but I am writing. Now to finish typing two chapters so I can get to the final draft of this story. Have begun The Cancer Capricorn Connection and while there are holes in the plot they'll vanish when I get to the next draft which is the plot draft. Am also typing edits into a story that was written years ago and I'm adding words, not to make the story longer. It's long enough but to smooth the prose. Sometimes I write sentences that need a bit of expansion to make them clear. Am doing this slowly.

Meandering on Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #writing #poem # reading

Meander 1  - Poem - Roller Coaster

Slowly clack the wheels on the track
Her body pushed into the seat
Heart pounding - Adrenalin released
For the thrill at the top of the hill.
Climb and inch
To the top - There she is!
And the bottom drops out
And she falls with a jerk
As the car starts to climb
With her stomach retrieved.
Blood rushing 0 Engorging hr veins
So she reaches to snatch
Another hill thrill and another down deep
But the ride has to end
Abd sge suts ub tge car,
Sixty seconds of fun
Artificial

And oh, she is low.

Meander 2 - At dinner last night we talked about earliest memories and if they had anything to do with our course in life. Mine was receiving my first library card at the age of three and reading for the librarian. This definitely meant I would be a reader but did it mean I would be a writer. Part of those memories was of spinning my own stories as I fell asleep at night. I still do this when I'm planning a story. Sometimes the story-telling continues for months before the story idea jells. So think of your earliest memories and has this concerned your present life.

Meander 2 - Writing. Right now I'm writing a love scene that has gone from a single sentence - They make love to several paragraphs. Now it has reached a page and will fill a few more. This story is coming to an end and the next one will start to make sense. But I'm still typing three projects while writing on one.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #Poetry #Heat wave #Writing

Meander 1 - Poem - Strike

Strike

They brought him home.
His face a bloody mess.
And I screamed, screamed.
My father's face I did not know.
A stranger distorted entered my life
Victim and does i one flesh.
The memory of violence
Lives with me yet.

Meander 2 - We are experiencing a heat wave. There have been clusters of hot and humid weather. They say there must be three days in a row to be considered a wave. The day between didn't really help. My study has no air conditioner. Fortunately in this old house there are other rooms with the cooling machines. The ceiling fan does carry some of the cold in here. But other than less heat and humidity we need rain. We are on restricted water use. I do hope our neighboring state will have the same restrictions since they suck most of the water from out small county.

Meander 3 - Writing. Mainly I'm typing but I really hope to have my special project finished by the middle of next month. Then I will really get to work on my own stories. There are so many to work on. I'll finish the three medical ones making the series extend to six books. Then I'll need to finish some series and trilogies especially the one that will be twelve books.

Meandering On Monday with Janet Lane Walters #MFRWauthor #writing #poem #birthdays

Meander 1  Poem

MIrror

I feel I am a mirror - reflecting
Other people's lives.
A surface shimmering
With other people's deeds.
So little of myself is seen.
So little do I do.
I live a silvered background
Of other people's days.
So little can I do
But sit and observe.

Meander 2 - Yesterday I had a birthday. The thing that interests me is I feel no older than I did the day before. I have lived many years - 80 - and I do remember most of those years. Not so much of the early ones. In fact other than stories told to me by parents and grandparents I'm not sure I really remember or what they have told me becomes mixed in my memories. The first one I really recall was when I was three and I went with my grandfather to the local library for my first library card. I had to read from a book in the children's section for the librarian. I did and I had my card. Another memory about reading was first grade. We had those Dick and Jane books. When it was my turn to attempt reading, I read every line with expression. The teacher insisted I had memorized the book because someone had read it to me. In tears I went home and told my father, This was lunch time and we went home to eat. No cafeterias in those days. My father dragged me to the school and the principal's office. He insisted they pick a book from their shelves and ask me to read. I did, only stumbling over long words in the passage - like Allegheny and Mononghela. The book was an American history. They told my teacher and I didn't have to perform with the other children but could read what I wanted. That teacher never liked me.

Meander 3 - Writing. I'm rough drafting a new story and I really made a mess. In chapter one, I mention the heroine's mother had died a year before. Low and behold in chapter 11 the mother reappears. Meant reworking that part of the book to rid myself of the Major Plot hold. Right now I'm working on the final written draft of Kat's story as well as typing changed made in the first four chapters of that book, typing more segments of Past Betrayals and typing the Cancer Capticorn Connection rough draft. Flying fingers win.
