1. Tell me about your latest release or the book you wish to feature? Genre?
QUINN AND THE MAIL ORDER BRIDE is book 3 in the Texas Hill Country Mail Order Bride Series, a sweet western historical romance. I love this book, if I’m permitted to say so. The hero is Quinn McRae, and he appears a charming, easy going man. In reality, he is tortured by something that happened years ago—something he feels is his fault and too terrible to confess. The heroine, Priscilla Bradford, has lost everything but her brother—her home, her income, her father, her way of life. She is determined to have a home and family.
2. Where did the idea arise?
Most readers of western historical romances enjoy mail order bride stories. I enjoy writing them because it’s fun to challenge the characters to adjust to one another. Of course, my romance stories always end in happily ever after—it’s getting there that’s a problem for the characters. Because I live in Texas, I enjoy setting stories here. This series fits, even though the county and town are fictitious. The setting is near where my family stayed at a dude ranch years ago.
3. How much research was involved? Did you stay on point or be distracted by wanting to look at just one more thing?
I do enjoy research and often fall down a rabbit hole. In this case, I needed to have a town where someone could have been buried to fit the scenario, and it only needed one sentence. It took me hours to make it credible. Even though it’s fiction, I try to keep any reference to actual places or events factual. Every book requires research at some point. For instance, I check names used at that period of history and choose from one of them, often from my family tree.
4. How long did you take to write the book?
This one took longer than usual because our family came down with that really bad flu that was going around. Knocked us out of commission for three weeks. Usually, I spend about four to six weeks writing a novella of 40 to 50 thousand words.
5. Now a bit about you. How long have you been writing? What is your Sun Sign?
6. Do you write in a number of genres of stick to one?
I write mainly western historical romance, but also write contemporary romance, contemporary mystery, and time travel. I’m an eclectic reader, so I enjoy writing in a variety of genres.
