Tuesday's Writer's Tip - Scenes - Overkill #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Writing #Scenes #Overkill

When you're writing an important scene in your story, one thing to remember is stick to what's happening in a scene. Take a fight scene. Choose your viewpoint character with care. If it's one of the fighters, they won't necessarily pay attention to what's happening around them. Now if you choose an observing character, have them stick to the moves of the fight. Going off on tangents can dilute the impact of a scene. Say the observer is watching the fight and something tangental catches his attention and he wanders off. If the fight is the purpose for the scene, stick wo what's happening in the fight. After the action is over, there will be time to think and maybe discuss the other observations
