Tuesday's Writer's Tip - Ways to show time in your story #MFRWAuthor #BWLAuthor #Time

There are many ways to show time in your story. One of the easiest is to use a heading. August 1976 gives a real hint of when the story is talking place.

Another way is to use Time in the prose. On the fifth day of August in 1976, Mary met Joe.

One can show time in dialogue.  "How can you stand the August heat.'

Often times breaks are used to show the passage of time.

The dog days had finally ended.
* * *
Mary rubbed her arms and looked outside to see the December snow storm.

A chapter break can be used to show the change in time
Chapter 1
The dog days of August enervated joe.

Chapter 2
Three days until Christmas

So remember time is used to drive the plot forward, to show characterization and to provide information the reader needs,
