Friday - Jamie Hill - Before She Was an Author #MFRWauthor #romanticsuspense

Jamie Hill visits

1. What were you in your life before you became a writer? Did this influence your writing?

I've had several jobs and am currently a financial advocate and surgery scheduler at a busy orthopaedic surgeons' practice. Every day is a new challenge and I love keeping busy. Prior to this, I ran a child daycare in my home for 21 years. That's actually when I took my writing to a new level. I'd jot down ideas during nap time, and write evenings and weekends (much as I do now, minus the nap time!)

2 Are you genre specific or general? Why? I don't mean genres like romance, mystery, fantasy etc. There are many sub-genres of the above.

All my books are romance, I enjoy a good police story or mystery, so I'd have to say romantic suspense is my favorite. Within the romance genre, I've written paranormal, which was fun because I could make up whatever I wanted with witches, genies, etc. I've also done a little sci-fi and some horror, which is trickier.

3. Did your reading choices have anything to do with your choice of a genre or genres?

Absolutely. I generally read contemporary romance or romantic suspense and that's exactly what I write. I don't care for historical and choose not to read or write them. There have been a few exceptions when I've read some historical books by Books We Love authors and in those cases I read them because I enjoy the authors. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the books. Jane Toombs' The Californios series comes to mind. But I'll never write a historical novel because I'm not a fan of research and my story would not be accurate!

4. What's your latest release?

Cover of Darkness is book 3 in my Witness Security series, and was released this month from Books We Love.  Here's the blurb:

It’s US Marshal Ben Markham’s job to keep witnesses alive, but providing protection to BDSM social club owners who stumble onto double murders isn’t at the top of his bucket list. Still, keeping Mitzi Pomeroy safe until trial has its perks. Like close contact with gorgeous, smart-as-a-whip Assistant DA Addison Decker. Too bad Addie doesn’t come with a warning label. Who’d have thought an ADA has so many secrets? Or that those secrets will keep Ben and his partner Nick Pierce scrambling to keep them all alive?

5. What are you working on now?

I'm taking a holiday break but in the new year I'll be back at work with the fourth and final book in the Witness Security series, Darkest Before Dawn.
