I was a stay-at-home mother, who reads a lot, raising my daughter. She reads, too. :)

2. Are you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres but subdivisions or romance, mystery or paranormal.
I write romance in various subgenres. I do have some books in the paranormal romance genre.

3. What is your latest release?
A science fiction romance set right here on earth.
Alien Fury.
The Arcon, Thorn Grindstone, finds himself alone and injured, thawing in a disabled cryogenics tank. Making an impulsive deal for a fighter, he launches into a battle with a pirate ship before beginning his search for his people.

After Thorn crash-lands in the widow Roxie Carson’s corn field. Roxie nurses the injured Arcon. As tension worsens between Roxie and her brother-in-law, Thorn turns out to be an unexpected ally.

Roxie is grateful to the handsome alien, but what will happen when the Arcon government finally shows up and takes Thorn away? What will her brother-in-law do then?

4. What are you working on now?
I'm working on three new series, Dragon Grimoire which follows Dragon Mirror, Empath Curse which follows Empath's Ranch, and a new series Magic Surge: when the magic surge hits, and all hell breaks loose.

5. Does your reading choices influence your choice of a writing career?
I read mostly in the romance genre, so yes, it does. Paranormal romance is my guilty pleasure.

6. Where can we find you?

Friday Mary McFarland is visiting and Talking about Who She Was Before #MFRWAuthor #Technical writing #science fiction #thrillers

 1. What were you before you became an author? Did this influence your choices as a writer?

Before I forged a path to my dream of writing novels, I needed to pay the bills, so I earned my keep as a technical writer in the software industry.  Being fascinated with technology, I developed a passion for science fiction and wrote several SF short stories novels.  My enduring love for authors like Asimov heavily influenced my choices as a writer.  Today, I write thrillers whose protagonists are in step with the modern world's technological dystopia but yet who are determined to fight it.  My characters understand how technology can damage us and our environment; thus, they are often techno and geeky, or "brainy," but they are also eco-justice warriors.  So, while I view technology as the window into my thrillers, and not the stories themselves, I hope my works influence readers to think about technology and their world and, when necessary, to take action.

2. Are you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres but subdivisions or romance, mystery or paranormal.
I couldn't have answered this question a year ago.  Being a multi-genre author has kept me conflicted.  However, I recently had a major breakthrough and discovered that, while I wrote in multiple genres, my work across all genres was connected by recurring tropes and themes.  Voila!  Lightbulbs!  The same was true, I became aware, in the world of publishing.  Okay, so everyone but me seemed to know this.  Lol.  It just took me a little longer than it should've to see it.

The other important epiphany, however, was the fact that I didn't have to push myself like a demented book production multi-platform author run amok.  I instead had to narrow my genre choices, and I did.  I chose the thriller, mystery, and suspense genres, and now I get my novels written with focus and passion.  In fact, one novel I wrote, and I love "What Happens in The Vegas Cemetery" more than anything I've ever written, is a YA paranormal thriller with a romantic suspense subgenre.  I'd originally had no clue where to put it genre-wise, but now it fits perfectly.

3. What is your latest release?
February 2nd of 2023, I'll be releasing "Van Gogh Syndrome," a thriller.  It's the first in my three-book Hidden Cobra series about a forensic investigator, whose background in cyber forensics helps her stop a terrorist attack on an American nuclear facility.

4. What are you working on now?
I'm presently working on five novels for 2023 and 2024 release:

  1. First, I'm writing book two in the Hidden Cobra series for a 2024 release, and this thriller's working title is "Starry Night Over Pyongyang."
  2. My second project, being edited and prepped for a 2023 Easter release, is a religious historical fiction called "Only Son: Jesus the Magus (Clan of Solomon Book One).
  3. Third, in the Clan of Solomon series, I'm researching and drafting book two, titled "First Wife: Mary."  It will be a 2024 release.
  4. Fourth, I'm prepping "What Happens in the Vegas Cemetery" for a 2023 Halloween release in Salem, Mass at "Gettin' Witchy With It."  "Vegas" is a YA paranormal thriller with a romantic suspense sub-genre.
  5. Fifth, I'm editing "Vengeance Is Mine: the Profiler's Passion" for a 2024 release.  This is a romantic suspense, which won the 2010 Golden Pen contest (third place), but I sat on it, choosing not to publish it, since I wasn't comfortable establishing myself solely as a RS author.  Glad I waited, too.
Two 2025 projects I'm working on for 2026 release are are:
  1. Dubai Bones, a stand-alone thriller, 2025 release.
  2. Deeply, Darky, a stand-alone thriller, 2025 release.
  3. Family Affair: Mary and Jesus (Clan of Solomon Book Three), 2025 release.
  4. Black Sheep:  Lazarus the Leper (Clan of Solomon Book Four), 2026 release.

5. Does your reading choices influence your choice of a writing career?
When I'm not writing I'm reading, and I read everything, depending on my whim.  However, as a professional writer I've learned to focus on writing in my primary genres and, of even greater importance, to trust in my own style and voice.  I choose not to be influenced or to follow the literary trend of the day.  In fact, if I'm writing and someone says, "Oh, have you read so and so," I avoid reading so and so. I don't ignore literary trends.  They're important.  But the favorites of the day have their voice, and I have mine.

6. Where can we find you?
I have carefully crafted my author platform to serve my readers by avoiding making them hop like fleas from one social media site to the other to find me.  I want them to know I'll be here, and in a place where we can connect and interact unfailingly.  My decision to limit my presence on the web is all about serving my readers consistently from a very organized platform.  That doesn't mean I won't be on Instagram or TikTok, if I determine I can serve my readers from those places.  However, for now I'm connecting from my author page on Facebook, my author website, and my blog.  Those links are as follows:

Friday Vijaya Schartz is visiting and talking about her latest release #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Paranormal #justice #romance #science fiction

Tell me about your latest release or the book you wish to feature? Genre?

My September release, ANGEL BRAVE, Book 3 in the Azura Chronicles series, is a sci-fi fantasy romance set on the glowing blue planet, Azura. This is the last book in this particular series, although I have other series set in the same universe, like the Byzantium (space station) series, featuring a few Azuran characters. As my readers have learned to expect in my sci-fi novels, one of the characters is a large feline… but I’ll let you discover it for yourself. The hero, Keoke Mahoe, is a spy for the Resistance against the GTA oppressing the galaxy. The heroine, Lady Valoria, is the leader of Azura, responsible for the well being of her people.

Where did the idea arise?

Since this is a series, the idea flowed naturally from the first two books, and also from what happened in the Byzantium series spinoff. The planet, its culture and idiosyncrasies, are already familiar, although I always make sure that each book can be read as a standalone. As for the characters, I wrote so many books that it takes me some time to make each of them unique and memorable. Keoke is a Zephyrian mind-reader with many talents that make him the perfect spy. Valoria is a strong leader, former Avenging Angel (yes, they can sprout wings and take flight anytime) and, like many of my heroines, she’s handy with a sword. As for the plot, it involves the return of a sinister cult that performs human sacrifices to please a certain evil deity.

How much research was involved? Did you stay on point or be distracted by wanting to look at just one more thing?

The readers familiar with the islanders of the Pacific Ocean will recognize some familiar traits in the hero, Keoke. I used my personal experience as a surfer and an islander when I lived in Hawaii. I also included a few Polynesian legends and beliefs. I had to research some of them to refresh my memory, as it’s been a while since I left Hawaii. This hero is very close to nature, and very close to my heart.

How long did you take to write the book?

I started writing this book when my last one was published (a year ago) and finished it in July. One book a year is a good pace for me. I like having a deadline to keep me on point, but I also like having enough time to polish the book to my satisfaction.

Now a bit about you. How long have you been writing? What is your Sun Sign?

I’m a Capricorn, in other words, a workaholic. I wrote all my life, but my first novel was released in 2000. I had many publishers over the years, and more than thirty titles released. BWL Publishing is my only publisher now.

Do you write in a number of genres of stick to one?

I’ve tried my hands at many genres, but science fiction, fantasy, and romance are my favorites. From contemporary, to Celtic legends, to space operas, human conflicts remain the same. The fight for justice, survival, the right to love, are all part of the human (and alien) makeup. So are the ugly side of

Friday Janice Seagraves is visiting and talking about being Panster or Plotter #MFRWAuthor #Panster #Plotter

 1. Are you a panster or a plotter or perhaps a bit of both?

I'm strictly a panster. I plotted once and wrote out the heart of the book and then couldn't write a single word.

2. Which comes first - characters or plot for you?
Always the character leads the story.

3. What are you working on now? Is this a book in a current series or something totally new?
I'm getting my series Chronicles of Arcon self-published. It's a long series. Three shorts books in the mini-series (which starts off the series where the Arcon have to leave their planet and then finally getting to Earth) and twelve in the main series starting with Alien Desire and Alien Heart (both are set here on Earth). I originally had Alien Heart first in the main series, but Alien Desire started just a few months earlier in the timeline, so I switching these two around.

4. Do you have some kind of object or place that figures in most of your books? I use gems a lot, hospitals, and caves.
In my Windswept Shores, two book series it was shells and my heroine was always weaving something. In my Matrix Crystal series, it was rocks, crystals, caves, and mines. I also have the ocean in both series. I'm not sure about Chronicles of Arcon. Each book is vastly different.

5. Do you write every day or just when the spirit hits?
I used to write every day and wrote crazy fast. I literally wore the letters off my keyboard. However, over a span of two years, three deaths rocked my family, I got hit by Writer's Block. I still write, but it is so slow now. It's really hard to get the words down. Luckily, I have all my books in my Chronicles of Arcon written. I just have to revise or polish them. Some just need an editor.

6. Where can we find you?

7. Who are your favorite authors? What about a book you’ve enjoyed?
Jim Butcher (urban fantasy), P.C. Hodgell (high fantasy), and Anne McCaffrey (science fiction).
I just finished reading: The Traitor God and God of Broken Things (fantasy). both are by Cameron Johnston. I enjoyed them very much.

Friday Join Barbara Montjoy aka Lyndi Alexander as she visits and talks about Who She was Before #MFRWAuthor #Family experiences #Science fiction #fantasy #Suspense

 1. What were you before you became an author? Did this influence your choices as a writer?

I've been a pizza maker, waitress, floral designer, lawyer, and mother to seven (and plenty of others who passed through).  My family experiences definitely have impacted my writing more than everything. My heroines almost always are in the process of creating their own family from those around them who need love and support.

2. Are you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres but subdivisions or romance, mystery or paranormal.

I actually do cross the major genres. I write sci-fi and fantasy as Lyndi Alexander and romance and suspense as Alana Lorens. I'm not a formulaic writer--I know some writers have the "romance trope" down to a T and can drop one of those every few months. I really prefer to begin with an idea and expand it into a story, then discover if it's going to be "out there" or a love story or something inbetween.

3. What is your latest release?

In June, SIXSHOOTER comes out from Dragonfly Publishing. It's the story of a spaceship captain, and a cowboy, and an alien who's genderfluid and loves them both...in all the ways.

Valeni Pascual wants to be free to make a living hauling cargo with her spaceship and to understand the shapeshifting alien who presents sometimes as the steamy male Nik and other times as the blonde bombshell Nikki.

SIXSHOOTER [©2021] A Horizon Crossover series novel by Lyndi Alexander | Cover Art by Kat Hardy | Science Fiction Romance (R) 280 pages / 100,000 words | Available in ebook and print from the DFP Books label of Dragonfly Publishing

4. What are you working on now?

I'm finishing a historical romance with pirates set in Key West in 1898, during the Spanish American War. While that's wrapping up with my excellent critique group, I've started a thriiller about a criminal defense attorney who crosses the wrong person in Miami.

5. Does your reading choices influence your choice of a writing career?

Probably. When I was younger, I devoured gothic romance. Never really enjoyed the Harlequin type books, because they were predictable. So most of my romance has a dark, suspenseful; side to it. But Science Fiction has always been a favorite. At this stage, if I take time off writing to read, it will probably be sci-fi. (and NOT Syfy. Ugh.)

6. Where can we find you?
