The story that began with two sisters named Willow kept me reading to see if the whispers from yesteryear would be enough to save their modern day descendants. Throw in a second chance romance and realistic characters for a fun read.

Whispers from Yesteryear by Janet Lane Walters is the novel I most enjoyed reading this year. The tale slips backward and forward from 1755 to July 2017. The past cast long shades over the lives of twin girls in their next reincarnation and those of those they knew in the past. The author led me by the hand through the ups and downs of their lives. Engrossed in the twins story I finished reading it in less than twenty-four hours desperate to find out how the havoc wrought by a heartless villain was resolved.

Ms. Walter's writes with smooth authority, giving her characters heart and strength. A beautifully written story about opposites and compromise-the workings of a hospital-and the choices we all must face.

Walters demonstrates her knowledge of hospitals to make the story real, but does so skillfully without slowing down the read. For Dr. Caleb Winstone returning home means more than a new job and an awkward encounter, it also means his parents incessant demands for him to marry the woman of their choice. Nurse Practitioner Suzanna Rollins hopes the move will help her brother whose healing from a car accident. To me some unresolved issues cost it a star, but it is still a worthwhile read and I recommend it and the other books in the series.

Ms. Lane-Walters' thriller, Code Blue, is a fun thriller. A killer's stalking nurses at a hospital, taking them out one by one. The novel's almost a throw-back to the thrillers of yesteryear when modern technology didn't make it easier to call for help, yet somehow seemed more suspenseful for it. A stubborn protagonist and too much time spent on a romance bog the thrills down a tad , but this is a well-written book with a steady supply of shocks. Ms. Lane-Walters also proves adept at delving into the mind of a psychopath and in these passages, the writing soars. Recommended for thriller and romance fans!
