Three Books by Janet Lane walters are featured on Saturday's Blurbs #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Mystery #short stories #fantasy #medical romance

When the mayor declares there will be no Halloween parade, a village tradition, Kate and her friends are surprised by the announcement. Sarah, Kate’s neighbor and friend is furious and she vows there will be a Halloween parade. A chance meeting with the mayor on Labor Day, also a no parade day sets Sarah and the mayor at odds. What can be done? There should be a parade, since there hasn’t been one since the start of the COVID epidemic.

Sarah gathers signatures on a petition she presents to the mayor. Mayor Bloom, refuses to acknowledge the gesture. Sarah vows she will find a way to thwart the over-weight man she calls Mayor Lard.

Kate receives a phone call from a friend in Vermont. The town where her friend lives has recently purchased some lamp post decorations that look like those she remembers from the Hudson River village. Are they the same. Kate sets out to learn.

While exploring the basement storage room at the town hall, Kate discovers the decorations for all the holidays are gone. She also discovers the body of the mayor. He has been hit over the head and also stabbed. Kate wonders who was so furious. Suspicion falls on her friend, Sarah. Kate sets out to find the killer and prays it’s not her friend.
HOME CARING
Abby Reid feels she’s been playing whack-a-problem for months. Her ex is behind on child support payments. Her angry teenage daughter. Her new business, a home care agency. All these areas vie for her attention. She believes she has solved the last major problem with the agency by firing her clinical supervisor, but this adds to her chores. Hoping the new patient, a private pay one will boost her spirits and bring success, she agrees to work the weekend day shift rather than call another agency and find the case being stolen. Will the new patient provide a break in the negative events in her life?

Doctor Jeff Grayson is the in-coming patient. He has been in town and working with his friend for a month. Jeff is a master of many things. At fifteen he started college and has degrees in English, Architecture and Computers. All this before medical school. He and his Harley met with a car and came out the losers. He’s a patient with casts on both legs and one on his left arm. Though his doctor recommends rehab, Jeff has a different idea. He is going home. Abby’s home health care agency is recommended. During their initial meeting, Jeff is snowed by pain medication and he falls in love with her voice. He has no idea of her appearance but he can dream and Abby is the object. When he wakes and meets her, will his dreams change?

SEPPAL (BOOK 5 MOON RISING)

Excerpt:

The low, sultry voice wove through the fog-induced by pain medication and touched a place deep inside Jeff Grayson. He struggled to open his eyes but felt as though the lids were weighted by coins. They used to do that but he wasn’t dead, just drugged. He stopped struggling and listened. The voice stroked and caressed like a healing balm applied to a burn.

“Dr. Grayson, can you hear me?”

“Jeff.” No way would he allow that voice to call him doctor. He opened his mouth. “Yes.”

“I’m Abby Reid from Home Caring. I understand you’ll soon be going home. Your doctor mentioned you will need nursing care.”

He nodded. At least he thought he had. The dose of Tylenol and Codeine had erased the little control he had over his battered body. Why should he fight the warmth stealing over his body? He would follow that smooth voice over a cliff and never protest.

“Dr. Grayson, do you know when you’ll be discharged?”

Why the formality? He had no desire for a professional relationship with her. He was Jeff. He had no reason to be a doctor today. A bark of laughter erupted. He had to answer the question. His scattered thoughts jelled. “Six days ago. No, tomorrow.”

“Are you capable of making decisions? If not, I’ll return later.”

“Don’t go.” He gathered his fuzzy thoughts. Decisions were his forte. He cared for patients and always knew which tests should be ordered. He grinned. “Try me.”

“I will.”

Jeff moistened his dry lips. The timbre of her voice seemed like a delicious treat he wanted to taste. The husky sounds rolled through his body making promises he wanted to believe.

“Dr. Grayson, I’ve questions but I don’t think this is a good time.”

“It is.” He had to keep her here. Another thought pierced the fog. His Harley. Probably scrap now.

Her voice pierced his wandering thoughts. Was the sweet seduction part of a drug-induced fantasy? He heard questions he couldn’t grasp.

“You can’t.”

What by saying you can’t. YOU CAN’T. Another voice issued the command. He shook his head. The other person had said those words years ago. He could and would leave this place.

“Dr. Grayson.” Another voice. Not the one he wanted to hear.”

Thursday's Opening Scene from Home Caring #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Romance #Medical #Doctor patient

Abby Reid left the elevator on the fourth floor at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She clasped her briefcase and thought about the patient she was about to see. Dr. Woods the orthopedic doctor had called Home Caring about this patient who had insisted on going home rather than to a rehab facility. She paused to review that call.

“Motorcycle accident. Ten days ago. Collided with a car. Fractured tibia and fibula of both legs. Pins and plates. Right knee repaired. Left arm multiple fractures. Broken ribs. Chest tube removed. Amazingly no head trauma.”

Abby had frowned. “Why home?”

“His demand. Doctor Jeff Grayson can be a difficult patient. You can handle him.” He had smiled. “When you worked here, you always managed to tame the hard ones.”

Abby hoped he was right. The home care health agency must succeed. She had no desire to return here to work. That idea made her stomach churn. As long as her ex-husband remained on staff, she wouldn’t work here. Even though none of her friends or colleagues had blamed her , Richard had the ability to raise her level of guilt.

With a sigh she recalled how after the purchase of Home Caring, she had discovered a multitude of problems. One by one she had solved them. A few remained, especially the one she faced when she returned to the office.

She paused outside the unit’s nurse manager’s office. Hopefully, Madge Kirkland would provide the information on this patient the orthopedic surgeon had neglected to mention. A difficult patient. But why? She tapped on the partially open door. Her friend sat behind the metal desk. Abby noted the framed degrees and a picture of Madge’s family on the wall behind the desk.

Madge pushed a stack of papers aside. “Abby.”

“Do you have a few minutes?”

“Sure. You look great. What brings you?”

Abby sat on a chair across from the desk. She set her briefcase on the floor. “Dr. Grayson.”

“So he won this round.” Madge arched an auburn eyebrow. “All he’s talked about is being in his own bed. Hopefully, he understands this won’t happen yet.”

“I’ll do my best to persuade him.”

“I hope you don’t fall for his charms. Every time I pass his room, I find half my staff clustered at his bedside.”

Abby chuckled. “Not my reason for seeing him. Home Caring is handling his discharge and home care.”

“When does he leave?”

“I believe Dr. Woods is planning on tomorrow.”

“Not a moment too soon.” Madge laughed.

“What can you tell me about him?”

“Do you have a month?”

“That bad.”

“Worse. He questions every detail of his care except when he deigns to take pain meds.” Madge shook her head. “Wanted the surgery done under local so he could advise. He attracts my staff like a picnic draws ants. Not that he encourages them.”

“I get the picture.” Abby frowned. “Just how old is he? I know he’s new on staff.”

“Soon to be thirty. He earned his MD at an early age. Before he came here he spent four years at a clinic in Appalachia. Two months ago, he joined Mitch Thorne. Madge chuckled. “If anyone can handle him, you’re the one.” She looked at Abby. “Remember our own Don Juan, the orderly, who tried and succeeded to seduce so many of the nurses.”

Abby nodded. “He was unforgettable.”

“With a few words, you shut him down.” Madge winked. “Did you really ask him if you could measure him before you took a chance?”

Abby nodded. “And I made sure there was a lurking audience. His face turned so red I thought it would burst.”

“And that’s why I know you can handle the doctor.”

“Hope so.” Abby smiled. “I won’t be his caregiver. I’ll select the ones who will be best.”’

“Good.” Madge leaned forward. “In case you’re interested, Richard’s love life has hit some rocks.”

Abby shook her head. “I don’t want to hear more.” Still Madge’s words evoked a moment of pleasure. She rose. “Talk to you later.”

‘give me five minutes to finish these papers,” Madge said. “I’ll meet you in his room.”

“Thanks.” Abby strode down the hall to the patient’s room, one usually kept for isolation. Time to see Dr. Grayson. She paused in the anteroom to wash her hands. Then she stepped to the doorway to observe her patient. She frowned. No wheelchair. Did the man have to remain in bed. She stepped to the bedside. “Good afternoon, Dr. Grayson.”

A Bit About the Writing of Home Caring #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Home Caring #romance #medical

When I began Home Caring, I thought if was for a line I'd solda book to. Before I finished the book, the line was cancelled. I put the book aside and stowed the pieces in the file cabinet. When asked for a new nurse/doctor romance, I remembered the partial story. I opened the file cabinet and looked through the pges and pages of material. Finally, I pulled the ones that made the most sense and began to re-weave the story. Some of the changes i amde was lessening the age difference between the hero and heroine. She's still older but not that many years. I changed ehr ex's profession from hospital administrator into a surgeon and gave him a more selfish personality. I also allowed the heroine and her daughter to regain a balance in their relationship. The flavor of the book changed a bit and my Alpha hero became a man though he liked to rearrange other people's lives to do it in a caring way,
