Join the authors at #MFRWHooks here http://mfrwbookhooks.blogspot.com for some great excerpts/ Mine is found at https://wwweclecticwriter.blogspot.com and may or may not complete the series.

BLURB:
Two friends have been tested and are acclaimed as a Healer and a Seer. Now the friend who will be the Warrior faces her test. When she succeeds the three travel through a tunnel and down to the lakeside believing they will be sent to an Isle where three crystals stand, one red, one blue and one green. Instead they are told they are part of the Three and three and must find the others.

Three brothers separated as soon as one of them reaches the age of five. They were taken by their father, Prime Voice of Midra in Keltoi. They have all displeased him and have been punished. They escape from their different prisons and must find their way.

Each of the meetings between the two warriors, the two Healers and the Two Seers is an adventure that binds them together. As Three and Three, they must meet the enemy and win.

Excerpt:

Tanan stood in the still room of the Herbalist’s Hall. Today his task had set him checking the shelves of prepared medicinals to find what needed replenished. He yawned. A year ago, he had passed his final test and had been named an herbalist. On that day, he’d been assigned here rather than being sent to visit several villages. “You’re too young to be sent out,” the Chief Herbalist had said. “Another year or two will see you mature.”

A scowl wrinkled his brow. He’d recently learned the real reason. Prime Voice had demanded he remain. Though that man was his father, Tanan had never seen any sign of favoritism from the man.

Tanan continued his survey of the stillroom. He noted on a slate the items he must replace. At the end of the lowest shelf, deep in the shadows, he found six vials he’d never seen before.

A frown appeared when he noticed the vials were made from dark glass meaning the contents must avoid the light. He checked the lists of the contents of the herbarium and found no mention of these vials. He listen one and saw it wasn’t empty. What were the contents? The cork was sealed with wax to keep the liquid contained. With care, he removed the seal and drew a deep breath. His hand shook. He nearly dropped the vial. Once again, he sniffed the contents.

No. How could they have such an evil present? He jammed the cork into the vial’s opening. Spotted Fever. Those six containers held enough material to infest dozens of villages. Tanan carried the vial to the counter and heated a strip of way. He placed the sealing material around the cork. Though he wanted to destroy the disease vials, he couldn’t. That would endanger him and probably find him imprisoned or dead. He carried the container back to the shelf and placed it with the others.

He slumped on a chair. Why had the Chief Herbalist done this. He could think of no one else who would dare. Why? For some reason, Prime Voice wanted a plague to attack the villagers. Why one that killed the young and old.

Anger bubbled closer to the surface. He must not show the higher place Herbalists his true feelings. He rose and walked to the shelves he hadn’t checked. He continued the list of the preparations needed to be made.

Tanan went to the preparation table and gathered the ingredients for the first tincture to be made. The stillroom door opened. Two men wearing dark trousers and  shirts. Travel robes ended at their knees. Both carried the packs herbalists used when they traveled.

“Can I help you prepare your supplies?” Tanan asked.

One of the men shook his head. “We can do our own The Chief wants you to present yourself. He is in the refectory. Midday meal is serving now.”

Tanan walked to the door. “Just a warning. Several of the medicinals you’ll need must be prepared. That was on my list of what to do.”

“We can make what we need,” the second man said.

Tanan exited the stillroom. He vowed to check those vials once the men had departed. His stomach clinched. Were his suspicions true?

He strode through a twisted set of halls and paused outside the door to the refectory/ Was he finally going to be sent into Keltoi? His hands fisted and he made a vow. He wouldn’t take of those vials.

Finally his emotions cooled and he pushed open the door and stepped into the room. His hands fisted. A dozen long tables were ready for those wanting to eat. He found  place and was able to sit when the Chief Herbalist called is name and gestured for him to approach the single table set on a stage overlooking the ordinary diners. Tanan sucked in a breath of air laden with the scents of stew flavored with garlic and basil.

Tanan walked slowly up the steps. He kept his gaze lowered. At the end of the table, he bowed to the Chief Herbalist and waited for the man to speak.

“Tanan, you have been assigned to several villages.” He slid a paper across the table. These are the lists of what you must carry in your bag. I will check to make sure you have packed all you’ll need. The directions to the four villages are listed. There are also special directions for you to follow.”

“Why am I finally being sent out?” Tanan asked.

“A message came from Prime Voice,” the Chief Herbalist said. “This is a testing of your ability to follow orders. Your loyalty to Prime Voice and Midran.”

Tanan stared at the rolled parchment. “I will do my best.”

“I know you will. Now go and eat. Then go to the stillroom and gather your supplies. I’ll meet you in the stables..”

Horu's Chosen #MFRWHooks #BWLAuthor #Paranormal #Alternative ancient Egypt #romance #action atventure

Join the authors at #MFRWHooks  http://mfrwbookhooks.blogspot.com for some great excerpts. Mine is found at eclecticwriter.blogspot, com and is from Horu's Chosen

BLURB:

Seth, an undercover cop has been betrayed by his handler. To escape he calls a number on a flyer and is transported to an ancient Egypt he doesn’t understand. He must rescue the Daughter from the evil priests of Aken Re.

Merin is the Daughter. She must find the man who by wedding her will become Pharaoh. She plots to escape the priests of Aken Re and flee to those who years ago saved her life.

Can Seth and Merin find a way to defeat the priests? Is love the answer to their problems? Can they join with the Warrior of Bast and of Horu to bring unity to the Two Lands?

RT Review
Following on the heels of The Warrior of Bast, this story is filled with magic and fascinating characters. Those interested in ancient Egypt will find this an enthralling tale. A satisfying ending is presented for the hero and heroine, with a promising lead-in to the next story.

Excerpt:

Seth slumped in the subway seat and shielded his face with a newspaper. Of all the luck. He was on his way to a meet with his handler and he didn’t want to be recognized. With care he moved the tabloid to study Tira. Panic showed in her expression. Perspiration dotted her forehead. Her tee shirt bore dirty smudges. She snatched a piece of paper from the seat beside her and seemed to study the words. As the car slid into the third stop she jumped to her feet and followed the crowd.

Another bit of bad luck. His stop, too. Just before the doors started to close he jumped out and headed up the stairs. When he reached the surface he searched and saw her running across the street. She entered the coffee shop. Strike three. That was the site of his meet.

Damn. Not a good idea to go inside. He would be late but late was better than made. Not that he didn’t trust Tira, but Ramos wanted her and the drug dealer had ways of making people talk. Tira’s sister had been a user and seller. Luci had angered Ramos by not paying what she owed and stealing drugs.

Seth slipped into a dark doorway and waited. Five minutes. Ten. At the fifteen minute mark Tira exited and stopped to use her phone. Moments later she dropped something on the sidewalk and hurried away.

Seth dashed forward and picked up the paper and read.

Life got you down? Have unsolved problems?

Looking for an escape? The answer is in your stars.

A counselor is available night and day.

            Dial 1- 800- 555- ASTR

He read the paragraph again. Truth or scam? Had this piece of paper lured Tira into danger? Should he follow her? He frowned and peered down the street. She had vanished. When he’d warned her not to go home, he’d done more than he should have. But he liked her and knew she’d done nothing wrong. Her sister’s murder had put Tira in danger. The cops would have questioned and released her. Then Ramon would have stepped in. Seth hoped she had a safe place to hide. Holding this thought close he tucked the flyer in his pocket and entered the coffee shop.

As he slipped into the rear booth his handler glared. “You’re late.

“Better late than identified.”

Bob Tolena rubbed his hand over his receding hairline. “What?”

“The girl who just left the shop was Luci Gray’s sister.”

“And you let her get away?”

Seth shrugged. He grabbed the cup of coffee and drained the bitter brew hoping a caffeine jolt would unclog his head. If he didn’t get some rest soon he would make a fatal mistake.

The waitress arrived and refilled his cup. She slammed a plate with a burger and fries in front of Seth. He glanced at the older man. “Yours?”

“Not. Eat. You look like hell.”

As soon as the waitress left, Seth looked up. “That lead to Ramos is dead. What now?”

“If you see that young woman, have her picked up.”

“Why? She’s innocent.”

“Don’t you think someone official should make that call? No matter. We’ll keep an eye on her.” The older man slid a piece of paper across the table. “There’s some new info surfacing. You still have an in at that church-run community center?”

“Sure.” Seth picked up the burger and took a bite. How much longer could he continue undercover? For two years he had slunk through the alleys passing information to his handler. Three drug busts based on what he’d learned had gone down. But the bosses wanted more and more. Ramos would be the biggest.

Seth’s hands shook. Would he ever see the end? He felt older than his twenty-five years. “I want out.”

“Not yet. You’re young. Hang in there for another year or two. About the center, Ramos is sniffing around.”

The burger dropped to the plate. A year was too long. So was a month. He hadn’t gone to the academy or joined the force for this secretive life.

Bob clamped a hand on Seth’s wrist. “You’re good at this. Pete would be proud of what you’ve accomplished.”

Seth rose. He felt sick. “I’ll let you know if I hear anything.”

By bus and on foot he made his way to one of his hidey holes. He stretched on the bed and slept.

Wednesday Nilos - The Eldest has a shock #MFRWHooks #BWLAuthor #Nilos #Fantasy

Join the authors at #MFRWHooks here http://mfrwbookhooks.blogspot.com  for some great excerpts. Mine is from Nilos and shows the birth of the second of the coming Three and will be released December 7th

Blurb:

Return to the world where Midra and Midran rule. The god and goddess have two faces. Midra is Mistrees on the Moon and also Mistress of the Dark. Midran is Lord of light and Lord of shadows. Rons ago, the Three and Three rose, Seer, Warrior, Healer defeated the Lord of Shadows, though remnants of his worshipers remain. As generations pass in the four nomes of the land only a few remain to honor the Mistress. Once again the followers of Midran prevail, leaving trouble to roil beneath the surface. Prophecies abound and many point to change. Will the Three and Three come again?

In Nilos, Healwomen have become only midwives. Their hodara lies in ruins on the bank of the Nilos River in the city of Memphos. Only a few women come for training and remain in the city. Others serve in the highlands and on the desert. The Eldest, she who rules the midwives, sets upon a scheme fo bring the Three to life and to rule the nome.

What will happen when the Eldest sets her plan into action? Will there be just three women or will they find their opposites becoming the fabled Three and Three? Who will rule the changes to come?

Excerpt:

Labor began the next morning. She drank the tea to hasten the delivery. Her housemate attended her.

“A girl. The Eldest will be pleased. Last night I sent a bird warning her how close to delivery you were.”

Those words panicked Andia. Though she’d wished for a few days to recover from the birth, the Eldest could arrive even as early as tomorrow. As soon as she reached her sleeping chamber she placed her daughter in the cradle. She sat at the table and wrote a note.

Her name is Dianan. Protect her from the midwives.

Tonight when her housemate slept, she would leave. In a flask she mixed enough restorative for the trip. Overuse could bring death but hiding her child encouraged her to take the risk.

The older woman brought dinner on a tray. Andia ate every bite of the huge meal. She returned to the bed to feed Dianan and to rest.

Long after the sun set, she dressed and swaddled her daughter in the blanket she had knit. Carrying her daughter in a sling across her chest, Andia pocketed the restorative and left the house. She walked the hardened dirt of the road glad of the full moon to guide the way. Night sounds from the forest brought comfort. Finally she reached the forge.

As she had noticed the day before, heat radiated from the small building. Inside, shadows gathered. She leaned against the anvil and fed her daughter. She gave the infant several drops of a sleeping potion and held her close. Though difficult she knew what she must do.

“My daughter, I pray you will be safe here and reach your destiny. If I kept you, you would be controlled by a woman who yearns for what she hasn’t earned.” She placed her daughter on the table and stacked rolls of parchment around to keep the babe safe. She drank some of the restorative and strode into the night.

She trudged along the road, forcing herself to continue. Pre-dawn lightened the darkness of the night. Several times when her steps faltered she sipped from the flask. As the sun rose over the horizon she reached the edge of the village. She had begun to bleed heavily and she prayed the path would be obliterated before her destination was revealed. She tilted the flask and drained the remaining potion. When she reaches the house she staggered to her sleeping chamber knowing her goal had been accomplished.

BLURB:

When Magda learns he’s a cardiologist, she blows him off. The problem is Damon has fallen in love and he must convince Magda there’s more between them than sex.

Review:

This was the first book I've read by Janet Lane Walters, but it definitely won't be my last. As you can see the cover is eye-catching and the story did not disappoint. Heart Throbs is steamy, exciting, enjoyable and entertaining.

2019 Book Hooks

Excerpt:

Sucking in a deep breath, she turned to her colleague and friend.  At the moment, she wasn’t sure friend was operative.  “Would you repeat your question?”

“Could you come to dinner tonight?”  the cardiologist asked.
That wasn’t the portion of the original question she wanted to hear.  “I believe there was more.”
“Like I said.  Nothing formal.  It’s not a party or anything.”
“Come on.  Say what you said before.  I need to be sure I’m not going deaf.”
“Lin and I want you to meet my new partner.  He’s her cousin and a really great guy.”
Magda glared.  “Ben, I’m not letting you off the hook.  What did you want me to do with this man?”
He studied his hands.  “Was just a suggestion, not an order.”
            “And that was?”
“You can show him a good time.”  He joined her at the window.
She arched a brow.  “A good time as in...”  Her voice trailed away.  She thought she had grasped his suggestion, but she wanted to hear the words repeated.  Then she would stomp.  “Does your wife know you’re soliciting?”
“What?”  His round face reddened.  “That’s not what I...well, maybe...just...couldn’t you make him happy to be in Rivertown?  If you two don’t click, you could show him around the...dating scene.  You know what I mean.  Lin and I want him to settle here.”
Magda shook her head.  “Spit it out, Doctor.”  Anger oozed from the dark corner and colored her voice.  “Just how do I accomplish your purpose?”
He stared at the window.  “Anything it takes.”
“No deal.”  She clipped the words.  Would he understand why she was so angry?
“Mag, come on.  Wasn’t I there for you when you needed a shoulder.  I need a partner who will stay, especially now.”
Magda sighed.  Ben and Linda had been there when she’d needed them, but he was asking for too much.  “Why me?”
“Men like you.  You like them and --”
“Don’t say it.”  She stalked to the desk and stared at the stack of folders needing her attention.  “I don’t want to lose a good friend, but you’re treading on the brink.”
            “I didn’t mean you had to...you know...”
She rested her hands on the cool metal surface.  “Let us set the record straight.  I choose the men I want in my life.  I don’t need anyone, not even a good friend, fixing me up with a man.”
