The Underdog Plot - Opening Segment is featured as Tuesday's Writer's Tip #BWLAUthor #MFRWAuthor #wwriting #plot #underdog

In the Underdog Plot opening segment, the character is identified. He or she must be shown in ways to elicit the reader's sympathy and empathy. They need to root for a character who on the surface has no way to win. These stories usually begin at a point where the main character's life is somehow disrupted. This part of the story will show his or her life before the radical change. The segment ends with the disrupting incident.

The Underdog Plot is featured today as Tuesday's Writer's Tip #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #writing #tip #Underdog Plot #Cinderella

The Underdog plot has similarities to the Rivalry Plot except there is no equal strengths and weaknesses. The underdog character is really this kind of sorry character. But we usually root for him to succeed. The original Cinderella story is a good exampleof this kind of story. The main character isn't really the dashing hero type, but the one who might be overlooked. It can be a fun plot to write. More on what happens to make the plot work next week.
