Tuesday's Writer's Tip - Releasing tension #MFRWauthor #amwriting #tips

You've finished the scene and it ends on a high note of tension. How can this tension be released giving the reader a break from high drama. One way I've found is to leave the character on that high note and switch to another character and show the scene that may have some effect on the focus character's decisions to come.

Another way is to give them a space of time to think about what happened  Having them consider their fear that things won't work out as planned gives them time to assess what is happening and perhaps make a new plan. With the fear lessened, the reader can take a breath. Using an accident or coincidence won't ease the tension. This must be done by a decision or an action on the character's part.

You need to establish a cause and effect scenario for your character.
