In the past the sacrifice was between a person and a god. Now much has changed. There aren't usually bloody sacrifices on the altar of a church ar a hidden place in the wilderness. The old sacrifice plot showed a man or woman willing to put their child on the block as a sacrifice perhaps for a victory in a war. These days the god is gone from the bargaining. Now people sacrifice themselves for something greater.
