Tuesday's Writer's Tip - Make Each Scene Important #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #writing #scenes #importance

Another tip to keep your plot moving forward is keeping each scene have importance. Stories are made up of scenes. Sometimes you write one that seems to flow easily and the writing is wonderful. But you have to ask yourself if the scene shows something vital to advancing the plot. I've done this many times while letting my characters tell the story. Then I must look at the scene and see what tension it brings to the plot. Describing what the characters are eating, seeing, hearing, touching, tasting might be wonderful but where is the added tension. Either you must cut the scene or rewrite it to add that touch on imoportance to what's really happening.

Cutting a scene is hard. You may look on it as your best writing. If you can's find or add that tidbit of tension and make the scene have importance to the story, out it goes. What you;re looking for is a single sentence, some inner thought or a bit of action that makes an importance to the scene. So always remember each scene must have that little element that adds to the plot.
