Tuesday's Writer's Tip About Linear Endings #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Writing #Endings #Linear

When the story is one where there are peaks and valleys, the story is a linear one. The endings of these stories are different from circular endings. A linear story follows a fairly straightline and the ending usually isn't much like the beginning. The story climbs from a valley to the top of the hill, or the climax and the eding comes soon after this. During this climax, two opposing forces meet and one wins and one loses. Then the story ends soon after this.

Most genre fiction follows this pattern. There is a specific goal and when the goal is reached the story ends. Mysteries, adventures and suspense are the type of stories generally linear. The reader must be aware the goal has been reached or the story will fall flat. This means the central problem has been solved.
