When you reach the end of your story, stop. Sometimes this is hard to do and the ending drags on and on. Sometime the ending seems abrupt. Finding that right spot is onportant. So is the shape of the ending. There way be a circular ending that mirrors the beginning. The ending could be linear. This kind of story could begin early in one character's life and go to the end. Endings can also be happy, unhappy or mixed with a hint of each. I think of this kind of ending as melodramatic. So when you decide to end the story you have to consider the type and the flavor.Much depends on the kind of story.
