Tuesday's Writer's Tip - Using Patterns in Stories #BWLAuthor #MFRWAuthor #Writing #Patterns

You've finished the opening scene of your book. Re-read it carefully. Is there something that can become a patternto help tie your book together. Something that can be used in other scenes, perhaps not word for word but the idea can be repeated. To demonstrate, I'll use the book that I've just begun writing

The main idea that I could use to form a pattern is the committee the characters are forming in the opening scene. The committee as formed in the opening scene is a vehicle for the nurses to use because some of the doctors at their hospital are less than competent. There is hope that this committee will do good.

The second scene again the committee is mentioned but the  focus is not on what the heroine thought would happen but on the fact nothing has changed. In other scenes in the book, the committee will be mentioned with many takes on what this means to the story.

Thus the committee becomes a pattern that flows throughout the book bringing various views and incidents.
