Heroes, Heroines, Villains. Which are your favorite to write?
I love writing about the heroes, especially when I’m in their POV. I don’t know why, but speaking as the male lead comes more easily to me at times than speaking as the female lead. Maybe it’s because my men are brassier and tougher than the women? But that’s not to say my ladies are weak—heck, no. They don’t take crap from anybody, least of all the heroes, but they typically aren’t as rough around the edges as the men are.
Heroes. How do you find them? Do pictures, real life or plain imagination create the man you want every reader to love? Do they come before the plot or after you have the idea for the story?
My heroes usually come from my imagination, and I think of them at the same time as I’m coming up with the plot. I can’t have one without the other, so when I’m plotting a new story, the hero is already there. The foundation of his personality is already set, but I add in the details after I’m almost done with the plot.
Heroines. How do you find them? Do pictures, real life or imagination create the woman you want the reader to root for? Do they appear before the plot or after you have the idea for the story?
Same with the heroes.
Villains or villainesses or an antagonist, since they don’t always have to be the bad guy or girl. They can be a person opposed to the hero’s or heroine’s obtaining their goal. How do you choose one?
Sometimes it’s hard to figure out who the villain is, or who should be the main villain. In my re-release, Forever Winter, one of the bad guys is an untimely snowstorm that’s threatening to ruin my heroine’s wedding day. Everything bad that could go wrong, does, and all these problems snowball (no pun intended) into a confrontation that should’ve happened years earlier.
What is your latest release? Who is the hero, heroine and or the villain?
I’ve recently received the right back to Forever Winter, my debut novella from 2012, and I’ve given it a makeover with a fresh edit and cover. Camden and Susanna are the main couple, and there’s more than one villain, but I won’t give too much away. Just know that the snowstorm is the least of their problems.
What are you working on now?
I have three books releasing this year. Forever Winter just came out a few weeks ago on October 5th. A Hero’s Heart (another re-release) will be live on November 2nd, and the brand new Into The Fire box set will be hitting the digital shelves on December 14th. As you can tell, I have a couple busy months ahead of me.
