What
were you before you became an author? Did this influence your choices as a
writer?
I’ve always been an
author, having told my high school guidance counselor I was going to work on
horse farms and write romance novels. Though I dropped out of college for
equine science after 2 semesters (having discovered that at $5/hour, I was the
highest paid stable hand around AND that wouldn’t get me out of my mom’s
house), I kept writing even as I got a “real” job. I’ve worked extensively in
customer service and tech support. Currently in addition to running Epona
Author Services and all its offerings, I’m a technical support specialist and
training manager for a small software firm. While my career directly
hasn’t influenced my writing, it has pressed me to learn all I can and become
fully self-employed. That’s a goal I’m still working towards, while also
returning to college to finish that degree I’d abandoned back in 1994.

Are
you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres but subdivisions or
romance, mystery or paranormal.
I am a proud multi-passionate, multi-genre
author. While I tend to write books with equestrian themes (and barring that,
animal companions), I write equestrian women’s lit, romance, and contemporary
fantasy under this pen name. As Mary Winter, I’ve written erotic romance of all
sub-genres, though I focus primarily on paranormal shifters now.
3.
What
is your latest release?
I recently
released, Roping Paige, book 4 in my Racehorses & Romance series. This time
I visit the world of quarter horse racing after care (i.e. horse rescue) when
Chance, a friend of Clint from my Western Star series, drives the trailer to
Paige’s rescue. Chance and Paige are instantly combustible together, but will
Chance be willing to get off the rodeo circuit and settle down? And is Paige
ready to expand her rescue and finally step into her own after the traffic
accident that had stopped her competitive career?
4.
What
are you working on now?
In June
I’ll be working on books 1 and 2 of Zahra’s story (equestrian women’s lit).
When the Noble Dreams series ended, Zahra moved onto the property next door to
pursue the next chapter of her life. She’s returning to three-day eventing,
finding love, and navigating the challenges of being on her own in a
newish-to-her world.

Does
your reading choices influence your choice of a writing career?
They do. I
tend to read fantasy, science fiction, and romance. I also read “horse books”.
I read what I love and write what I love. It’s that simple.
