What were you before you became an author? Did this influence your
choices as a writer?
Being
a writer wasn’t my original career plan. Even though I have written poetry and
essays for fun ever since I was a kid, I had no intention of ever becoming a
writer. Before I had the crazy idea
to write a book, I worked in a few different fields. I was in sales. I worked
with adults with special needs. When my children were little, I worked as a
personal trainer and running coach. During the evenings, when I was supposed to
be studying for a fitness training certification, I started writing a story.
Finally, I gave in and acknowledged that writing is what I’m meant to do.
2. Are you genre specific or general? I don’t mean major genres
but subdivisions or romance, mystery or paranormal.
Originally, I planned to only write paranormal romance but when I
got an idea for a romantic suspense series, I decided to follow up on that
thought. What I realized is that I can still bend reality to create an element
of strange on the pages even when the story I’m writing is not science
fiction or paranormal.
3. What is your latest release?
My latest book is Tiger’s Last Chance (Stranger Creatures
book 3). In this story, Sean Whitman survived a brutal interrogation that tore apart
his life and career. In spite of everything he endured, his empathy for others
never faltered. But he’s not perfect either. Sean
is a recovering alcoholic and music is his lifeline when things get too intense
for him to bear. When Detective Nikki Jackson asks him to come to Great Oaks,
Virginia to help him with a case, he falls for her like a ton of bricks. Despite
his feelings for her, he intends to keep things professional. So does she, and
yet….
4. What are you working on now?
I’m working on a few different things at the moment. I’m trying to
finish books 4 and 5 of my Stranger Creatures series. I’m also working on the
first two books of my Guardians of Blackstone Harbor series. Each book will
feature a different couple fighting against the odds to find their happily ever
after.
5. Does your reading choices influence your choice of a writing
career?
Growing up, I read a lot of science fiction, fantasy, and
horror. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I started reading romance. The
romance novels of current times are full of strong, capable women who won’t
settle for being treated as an afterthought. When I write in the romance genre,
I can add science fiction, suspense, and fantasy elements to the story while
focusing on the struggles of the main characters to find their
happily-ever-after.
