When revising your manuscript, here are a few other things to look at. Clusters is one thing. This doesn't mean using the same word over and over but sort of does. What it means is using something like he or she to start sentence after sentence or paragraph after paragraph. This is especially noticeable when reading the story aloud. All of a sudden, your critique group hears she, she, she or he, he, he. I once read somewhere an I really don't remember where was don't start more than two sentences or paragraphs in a row with the same word.

Another thing to look for is repeated scenes. Now this can be tricky to discover. The characters can have one scene in a restaurant and suddenly in a scene at the office, they're repeating the same words or mirrors of those words they said before. The reader can be bored or wonder if you think they didn't get the gist the first time. This can annoy them.

So along with the repeated words, now you have repeated sentence or paragraph openings and repeated information to beware of. Boring the readers won't have them returning for more.
