Wednesday's Writer's Tip - End of the Middle

When you reach the end of the middle and are heading to the climax there are things you need to remember. The first is "the ending belongs to the main, focus characters, hero, heroine or villain" no matter what you want to call them. So there are some things you need to remember.

Finish all the subplots so they don't spoil that big finish. Also this means you don't leave the reader wondering what happened to end some subplot in the story. Make sure there are no scenes that rehash old material. This will blunt the ending and cause the reader to say but that's been talked about before. Make sure the language in the last scene and sequel segment is taut keeping the reader wanting to turn the pages to find the end.

Make sure each scene has the necessary impact to draw the reader to the end with the risks of not reaching that illusive goal become imperative. Build to that climatic scene and you're ready to begin the end of the journey for your characters and hopefully leave the reader satisfied.
