S. R. Claridge - Thursday'a Interview

Today's interview is with S. R. Claridge a fellow Vanilla Heart author. She writes mystery and suspense.


1. What's your genre or do you write in more than one?

I write mystery and romantic suspense.

2. Did you choose your genre or did it choose you?

It definitely chose me.

3. Is there any genre you'd like to try? Or is there one you wouldn't?

I would love to try a paranormal or sci-fi sort of thing, but my brain just doesn't flow that way. As far as a genre I have no desire to try,
that would be Erotica. I think, for me, it would all start to sound the same and quickly become boring. I mean, seriously, how many different adjectives can you come up with to describe his throbbing manhood and her voluptous bossoms of desire? LOL! See, I'm not good at it!! :)

4. What fiction do you read for pleasure?

Mystery and romantic suspense are my favorites to read. Something that has a little bit of romance or deep-rooted love and flirtation, but set in the midst of an adventure.

5. Tell me a bit about yourself and how long you've been writing,

I've been writing since my grandmother died when I was 13 years old. I wrote a poem about her and it was such an emotional release for me that I've been writing ever since. I have a stack of notebooks waist high, filled with really bad poetry, marking moments in my life when I needed to vent. Since then, writing has always been a healing, calming, fun and exciting part of my world.

I'm a wife of 19 years and a mother of two awesome kids... one girl and one boy. I feel completely blessed in my life and I owe everything to God.

6. Which of your characters is your favorite?

In NO EASY WAY, Ernie is my favorite character because he's just likeable in an odd way. Kate is the character to whom I relate the most.

7. Are there villains in your books and how were they created?

There are always villains and usually they just birth themselves into my stories.

8. What are you working on now?

A mystery series set in present day Chicago where the heroine discovers she is the daughter of the Boss of one of the largest crime families in the city; and her whole life has been one carefully orchestrated lie.

9. What's your latest release and how did the idea arrive?

My latest release is NO EASY WAY. The idea actually started as a non-fiction book about marriage. I completed the book and hated it, so I threw it aside and began a fictional story encompassing some of the points from the original book. The characters quickly took a life of their own.

10. Tell me about your latest book and how it came about. Enclose the opening of the book around 400 words.

NO EASY WAY is about faith and forgiveness as well as strength. Reviewers have said it "tugs the heart and taunts the mind." I've included a descriptive blurb below:
